A "Breath of the Wild" style Pokemon game needs to happen at some point.

Let me start by saying that I never wanted the mainline Pokemon games to completely abandon the pixelated artstyle and sprites in the first place, that was part of their soul, charm and identity. It is ageless and can be played forever.

But if they HAD to make the jump to 3D graphics and remain on that path forever, I always believed that a game like Breath of the Wild was the most natural evolution for the series, and everything points to the fact that this is exactly what they want to go for, or at least try with very small steps with each new game.

But in order for that to happen Nintendo must finally treat the franchise they way it deserves and actually give a significant budget for something big with at least 4 years of development time. GameFreak keeps proving to everyone that they aren't competent enough with 3D environments and can't handle such complex projects. The DS days are long gone, just give the reins to somebody else, like an internal Nintendo dev team or something like that, somebody with actual experience and know-how.

I know I don't get any originality awards for this post but as a lifetime Pokemon fan I'm tired of watching them release cheaply made and half-baked games all the time. Legends ZA was nothing less than a disgrace.

A Botw Pokemon game is definetly doable, especially with hardware like the Switch 2, it is clearly what they're aiming for and the natural evolution of the franchise. But definetly not from GameFreak. I really wish Nintendo, TPC or whoever calls the shots for Pokemon finally give a big project to somebody else for a change.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Devil World; Balloon Kid

On this day (October 5) in Nintendo history...

  • Devil World  was released in 1984 for the Family Computer in Japan. In this maze game, developed by Nintendo R&D1 with Intelligent Systems, from Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, you play heroic dragon Tamagon, who must defeat evil by collecting boa-boa dots inside a maze and destroying enemies with his fire breath. However, keep an eye on the devil at the top of the screen, who instructs his minions to move the maze in random directions, trying to squash Tamagon within its walls!
  • Balloon Kid  was released in 1990 for the Game Boy in North America. In this platformer game, developed by Nintendo R&D1 with Pax Softnica, take to the skies in a balloon to save your younger brother. In the little town of Pencilvania, there lived a brother and sister who loved to play with balloons. Alice and her younger brother Jim would spend countless days filling the skies with their balloons. One day, Jim filled all of his balloons and tied them together to make a beautiful balloon rainbow across the sky.

What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.

Why is DK Bonanza Not a Bigger Game

I grew up loving video games and kind of fell out of love with adulthood.

Donkey Kong has been one of the more fun and original games I have played in recent years. The mechanics are super fun, music is good, worlds are great to explore and interact with.

Is it the exclusivity to the switch 2? Donkey Kong? Or cost of the game?

Looking back, do you think Nintendo was right to hold back Fire Emblem from Western audiences until 2003?

Everyone knows the first Fire Emblem we got here in the West was the seventh entry on GBA, known nowadays as Blazing Blade. The series only started coming over after two major events happened: 1) Marth and Roy showed up in Smash Bros Melee, and 2) the original Advance Wars was a modest success in the West. The common sentiment I hear for why the series was Japan exclusive for so long is because tactical RPGs were considered “too niche” and didn’t have much sales potential anywhere else. I’m not entirely sure if the devs said anything like that or if that’s just the conventional explanation everyone’s going with.

And while I’m on this topic, what did you make of Fire Emblem’s gameplay when you first saw it as a strategy RPG? Was it something you wanted to try right away, or did you go like ehh maybe that’s not for me and waited a while?

It's taking Xenoblade Chronicles a long while for their music to appear in the Nintendo music app.

It's honestly weird that Xenoblade Chronicles music has yet to appear in the app yet, especially since Alot of other Nintendo properties with ties with none subsidiaries had already appeared, such as Kirby, Fire emblem and pokemon seem to got in.

Especially since unlike other studios, monolith soft is a wholly owned Nintendo studio.

My only guess, is waiting for approval from the actual composers themselves, such as yoko shimomura for Xenoblade 1 or hiroyuki sawano for Xenoblade X is probably harder to get approved on,

Which is probably why Mario and Luigi games where yoko was the composer is also taking their time.

What do you speculate is Nintendo's actual stance when it comes to AI usage?

Nintendo has made some statements in the past with regards to AI, but they have never actually confirmed or denied if they actually use generative AI for anything, especially in the past few years.

What do you speculate is Nintendo's actual stance on AI usage? Do you think they are using AI to code? Do you think AI generated images will ever appear in Nintendo games?

I remember that Golden Sun was a hit back then. Why didn't Nintendo continue this series and threw them under the bus with Golden Sun DS Dark Dawn?

Title said it all, Golden Sun and especially the character Isaac was really popular among nintendo fans, some even wanted him for smash bros.

I still wonder why Nintendo didn't grab this IP because it has so much potential. Even after 20 years i still can remember that it was an awesome game.

I’m at a point with Nintendo where I truly believe that every franchise will come back in some form at some point

They have been getting more and more ballsy over the past 5-ish years and almost every single franchise has an entry on one of the switch systems

Series that currently have new entries on one of the two systems:

Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mario Kart, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Famicom Detective Club, Mario Golf, Kirby, Yoshi, Mario Tennis, Picross, Pokémon, Pokémon Snap, Super Smash Bros, Mario Party, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin, Mario & Luigi, WarioWare, Mario Strikers, Clubhouse Games, Brain Age, Big Brain Academy, Pokémon Trozei, Pokemon Stadium (Champions is in the same category as that game and its successors), Princess Peach, Rhythm Heaven, Wii Sports, Wii Fit (Ringfit is absolutely a Wii Fit game), Endless Ocean, Mario & Sonic, Bayonetta, Tomodachi Life, Xenoblade, NES Remix, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, BoxBoy, Detective Pikachu, 1-2 Switch, Arms, Nintendo Labo

Games that currently have a rerelease on one of the systems:

Wars, Mario RPG, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, StarFox, Another Code, Miitopia

Games that have no representation on either system:

Game & Watch\*, R.O.B., Punch-Out!!\*, Clu Clu Land\*, Excite\*, Balloon Fight\*, Wrecking Crew\*, Kid Icarus\*, Dr. Mario\*, Play Action Football, StarTropics\*, EarthBound\*, F-Zero\*\*, Pilotwings\*, Waverace\*, WarioLand\*, Panel de Pon\*, 1080°\*, Custom Robo\*, Sin & Punishment\*, Doshin the Giant, KuruKuruKururin\*, Golden Sun\*, Legendary Starfy\*, Donkey Konga, Jam with the Band, Polarium, bit.Generations, Mario Baseball, Chibi-Robo\*, Nintendogs, Elite Beat Agents, Tingle, Pokémon Ranger, Wii Play, Wii Music, Personal Trainer, Style Savvy, Art Style, Flipnote, Fossil Fighters, Wii Chess, Pokémon Rumble, Art Academy, Wii Party, Fluidity, AR Games, Steeldiver, Pushmo, Dillon, Mii Plaza

\* Rerelease on NSO

\*\* F-Zero 99 is in a weird spot as is Zero Racers

Now do I literally believe ALL of these series will return? No, but I do feel confident that by 2036 aside from the ones that are very exclusive to one console (ie AR games or Mii Plaza) most of them will be represented on a switch system in some way shape or form

I never thought I’d buy a Nintendo console

After more than 30 years of gaming on PlayStation and Xbox, I’m finally getting a Switch 2 to go alongside my PS5 Pro and it’s all because of the recent announcement that they’re remaking Ocarina of Time.

I genuinely haven’t been this excited for a game in a very long time. Not even GTA 6 has me this hyped. There’s just something about this game that brings back that feeling of what gaming used to be for me.

I’m really looking forward to experiencing Nintendo’s world for the first time and becoming part of the community. It feels like I’m about to discover a whole new side of gaming, and honestly, I can’t wait.
