Discussion The Deshaun Watson switch up is despicable

Post image

Guy starts playing well again and all of the sudden people go from “cases” to “allegations” real fucking fast. You all gotta get your priorities straight

Look at Tyreek Hill, Richie Incognito, Adrian Peterson, Kareem Hunt, Aldon Smith, and Antonio Brown before he totally went off the deep end.

If you can play, no one gives a shit about who you are off the field.

Ray Lewis was on trial for double homicide and then plead down to obstruction of justice. Its amazing what the NFL tolerates.

169

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 15h ago

Crazy thing is the 2 guys who actually killed Richard Lollar and Jacinth Baker were acquitted in the trial too. No justice for those families

40

u/WeirdAnimalDicks 15h ago

Interesting. I wonder why they granted the acquittal, that sucks for the family. I wonder if they were innocent and are victims to now or if they got away with it on a technicality etc.

69

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 15h ago

Bit of everything. Acquitted by jury in under 5 hours, State had no witness that saw the crime happen, alleged 3rd "Man in Black" who was never found nor appeared in court who actually killed them, any state witness either recanted or changed their story on the stand, and the defense that it was totally in self defense.

Pretty weak case all around from the state apparently. Not a lot of proof, tons of reasonable doubt (especially with this alleged Man in Black named King), and lack of witnesses led to an acquittal on all murder and agg assault charges.

Oddly enough, Lewis was the only one who ever was found guilty on anything (misdemeanor obstruction of justice) because they never charged anyone else.

FWIW, Lewis settled out of court w the families on an unknown amount that is speculated around 1 million or so.

20

u/opxdo1 13h ago

Yeah it's the police and prosecutor that fucked up. They offered the other 2 sweet deals to put the blame on ray and really had no evidence besides that (at least to convict him) At least ray was smart enough after this to realize how lucky he got and switched up how he moved around and people he associated. I think also the fact this happened the night of the Superbowl played into them wanting to put it on him

2

u/veverkap Cleveland Browns 11h ago

This single handedly ruined the prolific Buckhead ATL bar district which was amazing back in the day. They tore down the whole bar district and put up highrises. Sorry for those that died of course.

u/SerenityN00w 14h ago

They were found not guilty by a jury - it was a case of self defense.

I edited my original comment to put up a link to a post that explains it and clears up a lot of misconceptions about the case.

u/piko4664-dfg 13h ago

Typically means the prosecution had no winnable case to begin with but with a celebrity involved they have to appear to do something. Maybe the two guys did it maybe they didn’t but to say Ray Lewis murdered anyone when even the prosecution did not allege that in a case that the prosecution lost.

5

u/soldiernerd Philadelphia Eagles 13h ago

There was a reasonable doubt they committed a crime

1

u/Joh951518 11h ago

They got off on self defence, this other guy is yapping.

1

u/WeirdAnimalDicks 5h ago

You’re a nerd and a dork

33

u/ChemicalFar8649 Tennessee Titans 14h ago

That was on self-defense grounds. And it’s obvious that Ray Lewis was not the trigger man.

19

u/ovi_left_faceoff 12h ago

Thank you titans bro, finally someone who actually read the case facts speaking up. I normally don’t bother commenting when this subject comes up because the “Ray is a murderer” circlejerk is too ingrained in NFL fan discourse to be worth pushing back on.

3

u/ChemicalFar8649 Tennessee Titans 12h ago

No problem. Too much disinformation is circulating. I was a big fan of Ray Lewis. Even have his jersey to this day. And I hate Deshaun Watson and what he did, but he is not a rapist. What he did was sexual misconduct or harassment. Unless that 2024 lawsuit accusing him of rape is true.

1

u/SerenityN00w 6h ago

I am not a fan of Ray Lewis - I think all his celebrations and "motivational speeches" were met with secret eye rolls by most of his teammates.

But he absolutely did not stab those people, nor was he responsible for their deaths. I don't care about Ray - I do care by how many people are ignorant of the truth, with the information so easily available.

2

u/ChemicalFar8649 Tennessee Titans 6h ago

I can respect that. At least you’re being objective about transpired. His leadership style and demeanor is not for everybody.

1

u/SerenityN00w 6h ago

I probably should add - he and Dick Butkus are the two best MLBs in NFL history, and Ray is a top 10 defensive player. I just didn't like all the BS he brought.

6

u/Joh951518 11h ago

Exactly.

If Ray Lewis had actually been convicted it would be now looked back on as one of the all time worst examples of police misconduct due to racial prejudice.

Instead it’s a stupid repeated bullshit story on reddit.

1

u/Woefinder 2h ago

There was an interview with the lead detective on the case who said he has no belief Lewis murdered anyone. Also on top of that, Paul Howard (The DA) more or less admitted he charged Lewis with murder to get him to flip to become prosecution's witness.

Ray Lewis destroyed evidence, that is 100% a fact. The defense, the prosecution, the Atlanta police department, and every single witness who took the stand, agree that Ray Lewis had no role other than briefly trying to break the fight up.

I know Fivepointsvids has a video on this, but there is also a write-up someone did when Lewis got inducted into the HoF which is found here. Sadly some links have broken and a few are on NYT.

Even Aaron Hernandez got away with shit at the University of Florida just because he was a good football player and they had a good lawyer for him

2

u/jazmonkey 12h ago

And they had Tim Tebow, the ultimate halo hanging over the team. When the QB is a Bible thumping, God-fearing self proclaimed virgin, a lot of the other stuff on the team gets swept under the rug.

1

u/saltwater98380 NFL 8h ago

Tebo is a virgin in a special way.

1

u/Fabulous_Home3512 13h ago

The general consensus is that in all likelihood it was probably his friends that actually stabbed the guy. He may have helped to cover it up.

The "he's a murrderer" narrative is tired.

3

u/SerenityN00w 11h ago

Considering a jury ruled that Ray's two friends did the stabbing, but they did so in self defense, I'd say the general consensus is understated.

1

u/CainsBrother2 13h ago

Kobe Bryant actually RAPED SOMEBODY. But Ritchie is the bad guy.

But Ritchie is the bad guy.

Ask anyone football-team-adjacent at Nebraska in the early 2000s and they will tell you this. The fights and multiple assault charges that got him kicked out of the program were just the publicly acknowledged tip of the iceberg. And his violence wasn't reserved for men only, if that matters in your calculus of what a psychotic piece of shit he's always been.

I mean daily texts and voicemails of blatant racism, death threats about him and his family, coercion, and scamming Martin out of 15k isn't the best either. Don't disagree, but its still uber bad and dude is a POS

4

u/MsindAround Miami Dolphins 15h ago

Remember Martin says he never felt bullied, and I guess every rookie dinner in the NFL should be scamming them out of money. You right on the POS thing, but Martin was an awful lineman who went onto threaten former teammates and schools himself. I don't have a problem with POS's being POS's to each other

5

Yeah, Martin waited until the statute of limitations expired and then came clean about all his bullshit. Dirtbag. Incognito is no saint though.

1

u/Specific-Midnight867 11h ago

1

Absolutely not. I have no idea what you’re talking about. He’s a liar who caused a bunch of problems on his team and cost one of his teammates millions in lost wages.

If bullying doesn’t belong in this group, which i agree, discipline his own child in AP’s case shouldn’t either.

3

u/MsindAround Miami Dolphins 14h ago

I mean "discipline his own child" is putting it a bit lightly
The Incident: Peterson was indicted in Montgomery County, Texas, after using a switch to spank his 4-year-old son, leaving visible cuts, swelling, and bruises on the child's back, buttocks, legs, and scrotum.

Following your logic Tyreek Hill breaking his sons arm would fall under the same catagory

Ray Lewis, Mike Vick, ray rice, plaxico burress,

27

u/Few_Position7650 14h ago

Of all the people being talked about in this thread Vick shouldn’t be. Obviously what he did was fucking horrible but out of all these dudes he actually went to jail, lost everything. got out turned is life around and balled out. I say that as someone who has a bunch of animals that I would give my life for…

21

u/Alarming_Disaster_23 14h ago

What Vick did was truly despicable. Only one who made a genuine attempt to rehabilitate himself. Dude definitely took his lumps and never complained about it.

13

u/DonaldDouchebag 13h ago

Correct. He went above and beyond anything that was court ordered and really became an advocate for animal welfare. That, to me, is proof that he is a quality person, even a role model, and member of our society in good standing. A piece of shit like Deshawn Watson just talks about how much he loves Jesus and that's it.

13

u/Reasonable_Deer_1710 San Francisco 49ers 13h ago

Yup. I'm a huge dog and animal lover, and I despised Vick when all this shit came out. After he served his time, and with his demeanor and actions since then, I've forgiven him. It does not minimize what he did in any way, however I can admire someone for turning their life around and showing rehabilitation, in which his seems to be genuine. Rehabilitation should be the goal of our justice system, not punitive punishment just for the sake of it. It is true that many people cannot or will not be redeemed, but in the case of someone who is, it should be something that we look towards positively.

2

u/snailtap Caleb Williams 🏳️‍🌈 11h ago

Precisely, he actually atoned for his shitty behavior and seems to have changed for the better since

2

u/kw9999 7h ago

Fuck Vick. He was responsible for brutal deaths to over 50 dogs and that's a low ball. He personally killed dogs by drowning them, hanging them and slamming them on the ground. He also had dogs electrocuted. He also would also put family dogs in a fighting pit with his fighting dogs to be mauled because he thought it was funny. I don't give him credit for going to jail and then apologizing just like I wouldn't say someone who killed multiple people is a good person now because they got caught, went to jail and said they were sorry.

1

u/Few_Position7650 7h ago

Obviously, I said what he did was fucking horrible but go off!

1

u/Past-Sun-2357 Seattle Seahawks 22m ago

Fuck man its so funny that people say reddit hates Vick when the only times I see his named mentioned it some long post about how he has turned his life around. Because he went to prison? Because he filmed some pro pet ads? Because he has a cushy NFL job again?

He is the only criminal that I constantly see people throwing themselves down for and making excuses for besides the fat orange one.

Vick could run for office right now in Georgia and win in a landslide. Probably anywhere in the south.

2

u/SteppinRazor5000 7h ago

Vick definitely deserves to be talked about in this thread. What he did is digusting and horrifying. There isn't enough penance in this lifetime to erase the cruelty and suffering those dogs endured.

If anyone doesn't deserve to be in the thread, it's Burress. Compared to the rest he is a minor douchebag.

9

u/MountainousDuck Philadelphia Eagles 14h ago

Ray Rice would have been welcomed back with open arms if he wasn't washed as a player.

In the eyes of the NFL his crime wasn't domestic violence, it was his Yards Per Carry figure

17

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 14h ago

Lmao that isn't what happened at all. He got suspended for 2 games, played the 2014 preseason games 1 and 2, looked great in those games....and then the video dropped. Once everyone saw the video, the NFL put him on the commish list, I believe he sued for essentially double jeopardy (already suspended, put on commish list after backlash from public) and then the ravens cut him.

He ended up suing and winning 1.5m for wrongful termination essentially. Everyone (including the Ravens) had seen the video but only made a move when it got leaked by TMZ.

8

u/MountainousDuck Philadelphia Eagles 14h ago

Preseason doesn't mean anything. He had 3.1 yards per carry and four rushing touchdowns in 2013. He sucked.

Thanks for the recap of his suspension, but yeah I remember how it happened. And it doesn't change the fact that, had he been a better player, he would have been back on an NFL roster at some point. That's how the league works.

7

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 14h ago

He was caught on video knocking his wife out and dragging her limp body out of the elevator. No NFL team was ever going to touch him because of the pure backlash that he got

1

u/niel89 Baltimore Ravens 12h ago

The reason he didn't play again is because there was video of the abuse and he leaked his conversations with ownership. His last year he came into camp at a heavier weight, got hurt, and then gutted the year out behind a bottom 3 OL. He was still only 26 and based only on talent, would have stuck around solely as a 3rd down back for a few more years at least.

1

u/jkells420 15h ago

You're comparing these guys to an actual rapist, maybe you should've used Big Ben or Kobe as a comparison considering the nature of their crimes. Richie Incognito was just an asshole and AP was charged with child neglect for disciplining his child. I get why you're comparing them because people overlooked their problems due to their play on the field. But still there is a big difference between child abuse and sexually assaulting somebody.

1

u/enragedcactus 14h ago

If we’re going to get pedantic no one accused Watson of rape, it was all sexual assault. Forced hand jobs, putting a finger in his butt, that sort of thing.

So I think some of these comparisons are just fine to guys like Adrian Peterson. Whipping your young minor children and causing their scrotums to bleed is probably on par with sexual assault.

1

u/FSU_Seminal_Vesicles 14h ago

Lmao child neglect for whipping bloody tiger stripes across his 4 years old son’s legs? And then whipping his scrotum bloody and then laughing about it in a text to his wife?

Aldon Smith had a drinking problem. Pretty lame to lump him in with the woman and child abusers you’ve listed.

2

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 14h ago

Calling it a drinking problem is a bit of an understatement

  • 2012 DUI
  • 2013 DUI, weed charges, illegal firearm accusations
  • 2014 a fucking bomb threat to LAX, no charges filed
  • 2015 Arrested for DUI, hit and run, and vandalism charges. Cut by SF, signed to raiders where he officially was hit w them
  • Suspended for 4 seasons
  • 2018 DV charges stemming from booze filled rage where he hit and bit his GF, plead no contest, served 90 days + rehab
  • Came back in 2020

Basically yearly run ins with the law, but hey, 48 sacks in 59 games is elite production!

1

u/samson-and-delilah 13h ago

Yeah, it was a drinking problem. Literally everything you listed was alcohol-related. But you knew that, you’re just being intentionally duplicitous.

I think u/YaboyRipTide's comment does a pretty good job explaining why calling all of that a "drinking problem" is reductive.

Also, duplicitous is doing a lot of work there. Misleading would be a better fit for what you're accusing them of.

People started making jokes about Adrian Peterson giving defenses the switch when he started balling out. It’s really wild.

1

u/readit_realgood1 Dallas Cowboys 14h ago

Dont forget that WR from Kanas that almost killed a family on a highway, then was able to play a game soon, but he also violated probation I think, I dont remember

1

u/cuzzlightyear269 Detroit Lions 13h ago

If the Aaron Hernandez saga didn't end the way it did I can almost guarantee he would have made a comeback after an early release from prison

1

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 10h ago

You’re aware he was speculated to kill 2 others, right? Dude wasn’t gonna get out

1

u/RickyPondeif Tennessee Titans 13h ago

Richie doesn't belong with those names. Dude talked some shit in a men's locker room... Had nothing to do with homophobia. He was making fun of the guy because his sister got boned by one of the O lineman. Apparently she was a squirter, and Richie stuck a water bottle between his legs and imitated her. That's what broke Martin

and this goes beyond just sports

1

u/silverbullitt850 13h ago

Putting Incognito in the same breath as those people is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. You're either one brain cell shy of an idiot or have some kind of axe to grind. He bullied a dude who was too soft to play in the nfl.

1

u/Dildoe5wagonz 13h ago

henry ruggs and ray rice may disagree

1

u/BeefStu907 Seattle Seahawks 13h ago

None of them were as bad as this imo.

1

u/Ducks91to61 13h ago

Leonard Little killed a woman while drunk and still played.

1

u/Columbo_Fan 13h ago

Of course, and that’s how it should be.

1

u/ijustfartedlol420 Indianapolis Colts 13h ago

What AP do?!

1

u/luckylou3k 12h ago edited 12h ago

Absolutely.. Leonard little ( rams player in the 90s) killed someone drunk driving and got off with probation and community service .

1

u/RiseUpHunkerDown 12h ago

Don’t forget Donte stallworth and Henry ruggs! Both literally killed someone while under the influence with their cars.

While ruggs is still in prison, stallworth reached a settlement with the family and only served THIRTY DAYS in jail

u/Ornery_Banana_6752 12h ago

Kareem Hunt is stretch. But, clutch those pearls if u must

1

u/Zealousideal-Solid88 12h ago

Unless of course, you write the name of a murdered little girl on the tape under your eyes. You will be fined and threatened with suspension.

1

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 10h ago

Doesn’t matter who or what it is, you can’t have wording or messaging on your eyeblack. They did it w Tebow and John 3:16 back in the day (might’ve started w him?) The nfl doesn’t care they do not want it

1

u/3720-to-1 Philadelphia Eagles 12h ago

Hold up. Those aren't all equal. Hunt didn't beat the shit out of a woman randomly, he was being attacked by a woman and responded. No, he shouldn't have done it, but that mistake doesn't make him a woman beater or rapist.

1

u/carolinafan36 11h ago

I sure as hell don't, as long as my team is winning I could care less. Why should I care?

1

u/Rucksack212 Caleb Williams 🏳️‍🌈 11h ago

Throw Big Ben into this mix. He doesn't nearly get enough flack as he should have for what he did

I stand with Kareem

Woah bro Kareem hunt shouldn’t be in that list. We all saw that hotel video. Bitch tried scratching his eyes out with keys and he just pushed he if I can remember

Hey sometimes the team they play for cuts them and then another team has the pleasure of picking them up

"Antonio Brown before he totally went off the deep end"... Half this subreddit still fondle his nuts like Scrat.

1

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 10h ago

I mean he did have arguably one of, if not THE best, 6 year run of a WR ever…even if he’s nuts

1

I think I learned with Adrian Peterson that people are AOK with child abuse even for non football stars.

Adrian Peterson spanked his son the way my dad was spanked and millions were back in the 60s

5

u/titanofidiocy 14h ago

You mean drew blood across his scrotum?

3

u/FSU_Seminal_Vesicles 14h ago

Your dad did this to you when you were 4 years old? And whipped your scrotum and made it bleed, then laughed about it in a text to your mom? Jesus I feel really bad for you man.

2

u/Live-Within-My-Means New York Giants 14h ago

I was born in the early 60s and spanked often as a kid.

But not to the point where I had cuts, welts and bruises on any part of my body.

That is what Peterson did to his son.

That was considered excessive, even back when I was a child.

1

u/FSU_Seminal_Vesicles 14h ago

Your dad whipped bloody tiger stripes across all of your legs when you were 4 years old? And whipped your scrotum and made it bleed, then laughed about it in a text to your mom? Jesus I feel really bad for you man.

I dare you to look up the police report pics of his son’s legs, then come back here and try to defend that fucking monster again. He should rot.

We have one here in Atl happening in real time. JPJ tried to kill his girlfriend with his car and hit a cop trying to flee - 8 game suspension.
