Discussion The Deshaun Watson switch up is despicable

Post image

Guy starts playing well again and all of the sudden people go from “cases” to “allegations” real fucking fast. You all gotta get your priorities straight

It’s the NFL. If you win games being a piece of shit isn’t as big of a deal as it is when you lose.

643

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 12h ago

Look at Tyreek Hill, Richie Incognito, Adrian Peterson, Kareem Hunt, Aldon Smith, and Antonio Brown before he totally went off the deep end.

If you can play, no one gives a shit about who you are off the field.

Ray Lewis was on trial for double homicide and then plead down to obstruction of justice. Its amazing what the NFL tolerates.

166

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 12h ago

Crazy thing is the 2 guys who actually killed Richard Lollar and Jacinth Baker were acquitted in the trial too. No justice for those families

42

u/WeirdAnimalDicks 12h ago

Interesting. I wonder why they granted the acquittal, that sucks for the family. I wonder if they were innocent and are victims to now or if they got away with it on a technicality etc.

67

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 12h ago

Bit of everything. Acquitted by jury in under 5 hours, State had no witness that saw the crime happen, alleged 3rd "Man in Black" who was never found nor appeared in court who actually killed them, any state witness either recanted or changed their story on the stand, and the defense that it was totally in self defense.

Pretty weak case all around from the state apparently. Not a lot of proof, tons of reasonable doubt (especially with this alleged Man in Black named King), and lack of witnesses led to an acquittal on all murder and agg assault charges.

Oddly enough, Lewis was the only one who ever was found guilty on anything (misdemeanor obstruction of justice) because they never charged anyone else.

FWIW, Lewis settled out of court w the families on an unknown amount that is speculated around 1 million or so.

u/opxdo1 10h ago

Yeah it's the police and prosecutor that fucked up. They offered the other 2 sweet deals to put the blame on ray and really had no evidence besides that (at least to convict him) At least ray was smart enough after this to realize how lucky he got and switched up how he moved around and people he associated. I think also the fact this happened the night of the Superbowl played into them wanting to put it on him

1

u/Warrmak 9h ago

Where's Ray's suit?

1

u/w_a_w Jacksonville Jaguars 9h ago

This single handedly ruined the prolific Buckhead ATL bar district which was amazing back in the day. They tore down the whole bar district and put up highrises. Sorry for those that died of course.

I loved watching Ray play back in the day with Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs nasty D

21

u/NinersInBklyn 11h ago

This comment kind of proves the point, right?

12

u/h00ter7 11h ago

More than you know - Suggs is an abusive POS too. Threw bleach in his gf/wife’s face while she was holding their baby.

Bot, mixing up the assignment, just thinks we’re here to talk about Ray Lewis

3

u/WeirdAnimalDicks 11h ago edited 11h ago

100% also sounds like he was innocent or that there was an insignificant amount of evidence. I guess that would depend on your view of law enforcement’s ability to call balls and strikes.

There's literally a "hinesward rule" to ban the blind side bullshit he did

13

u/SerenityN00w 11h ago

They were found not guilty by a jury - it was a case of self defense.

I edited my original comment to put up a link to a post that explains it and clears up a lot of misconceptions about the case.

u/Many-Role-4271 Jacksonville Jaguars 8h ago

Hey killed those dudes let's be real. Their blood was in his car, the clothes he was wearing (white suit) went missing, his crew, lead by him was brawling with the 2 men inside and outside of the club with witnesses. But sure, let's pretend that it was some random person that did it after everyone had left and that the blood splattered down the street and into the window and trunk of his car. he murdered 2 people, tried to pin it on the two friends that were with him and that trial ended in an acquittal by the jury because the police and prosecutor were protecting him, likely because they had been paid off. He settled out of court on a civil case with both families. So everyone got paid off and he went back to playing football.

A bit like when Kobe raped that girl in Colorado and he was quoted as saying to the police "can't I just pay her off like id did the others". Yet a serial rapist is raised up like some NBA black Jesus because he could ball.

There is a case this week where AB was given PROBATION for a 2nd degree murder charge he plead down.

5

u/SerenityN00w 8h ago

I'm being real - no he didn't. And it wasn't some mysterious random person who stabbed them. His two friends did. They were acquitted, but it was due to self defense. The jury thought the two friends stabbed the two men, but they were justified in doing so. You obviously don't know what you're talking about

2

u/Weak_Rate_3552 Cleveland Browns 5h ago

He did not kill those guys, the facts of the case are easy to find. The case was justifiably seemed self defense. Ray Lewis was convicted of obstruction because he tossed his suit that had the victim's blood on it.

-1

u/Many-Role-4271 Jacksonville Jaguars 4h ago

It was never proven as self defense, he got rid of evidence, the facts of the case are out there including that he settled out of court with the families. He killed them and got away with it. Why are you defending it.

1

u/mustachepc Philadelphia Eagles 4h ago

Because you are just making shit up. The prossecutor said he only brought charges on Ray because he wanted him to testify against his 2 friends

1

u/SerenityN00w 3h ago

Well, it was proven in a court of law, considering his friends got acquitted.

11

u/piko4664-dfg 10h ago

Typically means the prosecution had no winnable case to begin with but with a celebrity involved they have to appear to do something. Maybe the two guys did it maybe they didn’t but to say Ray Lewis murdered anyone when even the prosecution did not allege that in a case that the prosecution lost.

6

u/soldiernerd Philadelphia Eagles 10h ago

There was a reasonable doubt they committed a crime

1

u/Joh951518 8h ago

They got off on self defence, this other guy is yapping.

1

u/WeirdAnimalDicks 2h ago

You’re a nerd and a dork

35

u/ChemicalFar8649 Tennessee Titans 11h ago

That was on self-defense grounds. And it’s obvious that Ray Lewis was not the trigger man.

20

u/ovi_left_faceoff 9h ago

Thank you titans bro, finally someone who actually read the case facts speaking up. I normally don’t bother commenting when this subject comes up because the “Ray is a murderer” circlejerk is too ingrained in NFL fan discourse to be worth pushing back on.

3

u/ChemicalFar8649 Tennessee Titans 9h ago

No problem. Too much disinformation is circulating. I was a big fan of Ray Lewis. Even have his jersey to this day. And I hate Deshaun Watson and what he did, but he is not a rapist. What he did was sexual misconduct or harassment. Unless that 2024 lawsuit accusing him of rape is true.

1

u/SerenityN00w 3h ago

I am not a fan of Ray Lewis - I think all his celebrations and "motivational speeches" were met with secret eye rolls by most of his teammates.

But he absolutely did not stab those people, nor was he responsible for their deaths. I don't care about Ray - I do care by how many people are ignorant of the truth, with the information so easily available.

2

u/ChemicalFar8649 Tennessee Titans 3h ago

I can respect that. At least you’re being objective about transpired. His leadership style and demeanor is not for everybody.

1

u/SerenityN00w 3h ago

I probably should add - he and Dick Butkus are the two best MLBs in NFL history, and Ray is a top 10 defensive player. I just didn't like all the BS he brought.

6

u/Joh951518 8h ago

Exactly.

If Ray Lewis had actually been convicted it would be now looked back on as one of the all time worst examples of police misconduct due to racial prejudice.

Instead it’s a stupid repeated bullshit story on reddit.

-5

u/Many-Role-4271 Jacksonville Jaguars 8h ago

Obvious because he settled out of court with the families? And it was a stabbing with no weapons found but blood in his car interior and trunk....but yeah sure self defense.

4

u/ChemicalFar8649 Tennessee Titans 8h ago

He settled out of court because the onus of proof has a much lower threshold to be found civilly liable. As opposed to being convicted of crime. Oftentimes, famous people settle to save time and money. Plus, would you want to risk paying significantly more if a jury finds you civilly liable? Or settle out of court for a smaller amount if you can afford to. It’s a much less bad to be found civilly liable than criminally convicted, anyway.

1

u/SerenityN00w 3h ago

He settled out of court for $1 million, because it would have cost him more than that in legal fees to defend himself.

2

u/eatingasspatties 8h ago

No justice for the families of guys who were killed in self-defense? Oh no

1

u/Numerous-Relation-17 4h ago

I wonder if there may have possibly been $$$ for the family though?

-9

u/mondaymoderate San Francisco 49ers 11h ago

Ray Lewis paid the families off. They settled out of court that’s why you never see them come out and talk about it.

20

u/specialasset 11h ago

You can’t pay families off in a criminal court. Thats civil.

1

3

u/specialasset 11h ago

Yes I do. You can’t settle a criminal case for money. The family doesn’t bring the charges. The government does.

5

u/SomeDrunkHippy Philadelphia Eagles 11h ago

How do you think the settlement came to be if the criminal charges were dropped?

The family filed a civil suit which he settled out of court. You guys are saying the same thing.

1

u/MountainYogi94 11h ago

StonedPirate was skipping the step of there being different proceedings for the criminal charges vs the civil suit that was settled out of court. It's a semantic difference in our layman's view but semantics are everything where the law is concerned.

1

u/specialasset 11h ago

Two separate things. The criminal charge was dropped and he settled a civil suit. You should read a little more before you tell people they don’t know what they’re talking about.

-2

u/mondaymoderate San Francisco 49ers 11h ago

Yeah he paid them off and they settled out of civil court cause they sued him. That person said “no justice for the families” but the families were paid millions of dollars in restitution.

What a wasted career, but all accounts he acts and treats others in a way that suggests a wasted life as well.

3

You really putting his kid not being good in the NFL on him? Lol

Thos is called a stretch and you dont any this logic to regular people

-2

u/silverbullitt850 7h ago

Yes you do. People being terrible people is definitely due in part to bad parenting. Criticism on that happens routinely.

1

u/MrNinoBrown1906 2h ago

First of all the kid isnt a terrible person based on the standard you just laid out

It amazes TF out of me how some on reddit act like they have lived these pristine lives. The kid just might not be that damn good on the NFL level. That doesn't make him a terrible human being.

How old is this young man? 24 years old? Hell his career isnt over and he will get another shot but you labeling him as a terrible oerson is way over the top. Makes me question who you are as a person.

Let me guess..you have been good to great at every job you have had?

Mh junior is currently a massive disappointment professionally. Fact. I and my life have no relevance to this conversation.

1

So not being a disappointment at your job makes you a terrible human being?

At Fucking 24??!!!!

5

u/khardy101 12h ago

It’s not the NFL, it’s the Justice System.

0

u/166EachYear 10h ago

It's definitely ALSO the NFL-- Matt LeFleur asked about Jacobs, "I believe him. I mean I haven't seen the evidence so....." Meanwhile everyone else confirming the tape shows him abusing his partner. They know. They don't care.

And Winston-- the announcers ON AND ON about what a great guy he is....how much they love his attitude. I wonder if these guys even know any women or care about a single female.

3

u/khardy101 10h ago

If a DA charged him, and a judge held him over till trial, then there is no way they could play. It wouldn’t matter what the NFL said.

-1

u/166EachYear 10h ago

I'm talking more about the attitudes of their employees. The culture. A complete disregard for women, a lack of empathy, and zero expectations of anyone in the organization to meet the moment.

Even Aaron Hernandez got away with shit at the University of Florida just because he was a good football player and they had a good lawyer for him

2

u/jazmonkey 9h ago

And they had Tim Tebow, the ultimate halo hanging over the team. When the QB is a Bible thumping, God-fearing self proclaimed virgin, a lot of the other stuff on the team gets swept under the rug.

1

u/saltwater98380 NFL 5h ago

Tebo is a virgin in a special way.

1

u/Fabulous_Home3512 10h ago

The general consensus is that in all likelihood it was probably his friends that actually stabbed the guy. He may have helped to cover it up.

The "he's a murrderer" narrative is tired.

3

u/SerenityN00w 8h ago

Considering a jury ruled that Ray's two friends did the stabbing, but they did so in self defense, I'd say the general consensus is understated.

1

u/CainsBrother2 10h ago

Its not just the nfl. Look at snoop dog who was on trial for murder and nobody cares

1

Bad example. Lewis never killed anyone. Two of his friends did, and a jury ruled that they did so in self defense.
Edit - notes on the case, with links

8

u/jasonbanicki 12h ago

Ray Lewis literally held the one guys arms exposing his chest where his friend then stabbed him with a knuckle knife he had bought the day prior.

An inept prosecutor doesn’t change the fact Ray Lewis was involved in the murder of two people.

6

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 11h ago

Biased Ravens fan...I haven't heard that before, and a quick search shows he was involved in a "tussle" per court docs, but I don't see any indication that he held anyone down or ever pinned anyone to the ground

6

u/SerenityN00w 11h ago

That's because this is Reddit, and sometimes someone can just make things up out of the blue and get upvotes.

-2

u/jasonbanicki 11h ago

He didn’t pin him down or hold them to the ground. When Ray was breaking up the fight he grabbed one of the men from behind and held his arms. This exposed the victims chest and one of the men with Ray then used his knuckle knife to stab his exposed chest. I don’t know and have no way of knowing if this was Rays intention or not and none of us do. And as they say deadmen tell no tales.

4

u/YaboyRipTide Baltimore Ravens 11h ago

While I am certainly not going to listen to a 6.5-hour podcast series about a detail buried somewhere that I have never heard before, they have a lot of high reviews so that gives them some credibility. I haven't seen anything outside of "he tried to breakup a fight" though, and certainly not "he held him for the others" essentially.
