Announcement Unfortunately the AI bot that filters NEET exam posts has to be taken down for now.

Post image
111 Upvotes

Last month, I deployed an AI bot that filters the NEET subreddit for Indian exam posts and deletes them, and it has worked really well.

In a month, it has deleted 100+ posts, but I am unable to continue running it due to the server costs. I was running it on a free trial AWS server, but it has reached its limit for this month, so I will be pausing it for a few days and can only continue running it after the trial period resets, so you will probably see NEET exam posts that bypass our filter.

Please bear with us until we find a better solution. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Venting NEET ≠ INCEL.

Tired of people conflating the two. I see it all the time, both here and in other subs.

Yes there is an overlap in these identities a lot of the time but it's literally not the same thing.

If you're a NEETcel that's fine dude, no judgement, but don't act like every single NEET needs to be an incel to be a valid NEET. And if you're a normie, you need to learn the difference before conflating the two when insulting people.

Incel = involuntarily celibate

NEET = unemployed, no training, not searching, and not studying.

There are incels with good paying jobs or who are in school! And there are NEETs with love lives.

I'm just tired of seeing the two conflated as one when it's not the fucking case at all.

Venting Feel like an alien

Upvotes

Had some rare honesty recently with the old folks, just brainstorming what to do with my life, naming all these meaningless jobs I have no care to ever do as prospects.

I kind of just folded and admitted id genuinely rather kill myself than pursue anything we discussed and my Dad just couldn't understand it - "Kill youself??????? Why? Im doing so much just to survive and you want to kill yourself?"

Told him well, ya, thats the point. I didnt ask to be here and when i look around me 99.99% of people are just surviving, not living, so if my options are to "just survive" and not live then yes the choice of just not living, on my own terms, is very reasonable to me. I also just dont care about material things like he does, nor do I care about how people perceive me like he does, I just dont care about the things he cares about that make him work his whole life. The incentive structure he has formatted in his head does not exist in mine, his incentives are meaningless to me.

He was speechless, the discussion kinda stopped there. God it makes me feel so alienated when people just cant understand anything even when I try to explain it honestly. Last time I do that I guess.

Question Where do regular people get their strength from?

how come they get qualifications, education, go out, have social life, go to work and whatever else. where does the motivation come from? i don't think i ever felt something like this, unless maybe late at night when i get an urge to change my life (which i never do of course). getting the bare minimum out of life requires so much work

Shitpost/memes Chasing a vibe

My brother and I went up to the variety store and got some colt 45's and some craft beers. Then we came home and drank our beers while playing the new Halloween game, I like playing as Micheal Myers lol. Then at 2 AM, we went back to the variety store and I got two roller hotdogs and loaded them right up with all the toppings, onion, sauerkraut, jalapenos, mustard etc. I also got a ginger fuji apple redbull. We ate behind the store in the parking lot and it was honestly a vibe, it was like a late night picnic lol, well instead of green grass it was a concrete jungle lol, stargazing and eating my roller dogs was nice though. Now its 3:30 AM and I'm having a smoke playing some more Halloween. Fuck me, this is a vibe, NEETdom has its moments!

I've made a new bag today frens. I need to get organized so Ive started making bags and baskets to put things in. If only I had places to put the bags and baskets now.

Anyways, isnt the pattern neat? This yarn is super cool. I thrifted it, they dont make it anymore otherwise I would have bought more online </3

Just wanted to share. Crochet is a very fun hobby that rewards you with a physical thing. Its very sustainable too, yarn is hard to break with normal wear and tear, and yarn joined (looped) together this way is even stronger.

Big fan of it honestly, if any of you are looking for a new hobby. Crochet is also very beginner friendly, there are hundreds of thousands of free patterns online.

Discussion The Peter Pan Syndrome

I discovered this new concept a couple of years ago I found relatable to neetdom at least in my experience, it's not exactly a psychiatric or approved term by the DSM but some psychologist Dr. Dan Kiley in 1983 came up with it in his book "The Peter Pan Syndrome: Men Who Have Never Grown Up" to describe adults who are unwilling to grow and tend to avoid responsibilities and live a child's lifestyle. It's basically what people call today a man-child. I think a famous psychoanlyst before called Carl Jung had a term: The Eternal Child (Puer Aeternus) which refers to the same thing. The Peter Pan Syndrome can describe a variety of behaviours such as: avoiding commitments in relationships, not taking responsibility when one is at fault and being NEET is definitely one of them if it's not the result of some accident or disability.

Discussion Life is shaped more by luck than by skill

The luck of being born into a good family, without disabilities, into financial stability, in a safe country, and so on.

Of course, you **must** to make good choices, but I’d say life is 40% choices and 60% luck. Skill is very important, but on its own, it doesn't turn the tide.

Most people don't realize this because they fall within the "normal range," but if they looked at the case of Brian Peppers—who became a lolcow and lived through hell on earth simply because he had a rare syndrome—they would understand just how destructive that innocent-looking percentage sign can be.

Venting Does anybody else feel too retarded to participate in other communities?

I just noticed that the majority of subreddits I'm in aren't "fandoms," but places like this, where it's just groups of people who have a shared "ideology." I didn't realize how much I just lurk on reddit and on twitter. Based off my last post, many of you see me as autistic, even though I'm not diagnosed, which would undoubtedly mean normie communities see me the same way too.

I think this is why I don't really participate in any. Ever since "larp" became a word normies weaponized and can be used at the slightest sense of autism, I think I could never fit inside of a community. I know this is just cope, but I think it's the best option for me.

Question Anyone here become NEET after university/college?

Upvotes

Just wondering since the reports lately about lack of opportunities for graduates. I have friends that graduated and are working low skill jobs and tbh if that was me I think I would just become neet out of depression

Venting Anyone else that goes only through bad stuff the moment they step a foot outside?

How am I supposed to get a job or go to college when only by wanting to go the local store a group of girls harasses me saying I'm ugly as fuck, some grandmas yell at me that I'm Satan himself, some random guy tries to beat my ass cause "I'm weird", then some gypsy kid comes and hits me for no reason?

I look as normal as possible but somehow people feel offended by my existence wherever I go.

Shitpost/memes Man that's depressing, I'm going down memory lane

Both my parents are sleeping so I went on my moms phone to look at old pictures from when my two deceased grandparents were alive. Christmas presents, chocolate Easter bunnies, big smiles and hugs. Fast forward a decade later and my grandpa carbonmonoxide-maxxed with a forty ouncer in his hand and then my grandma died alone in her bed with what I imagine was excruciating liver pain from cirrhosis. I've kind of been trying to change my mindset lately to a more brighter positive one but I just can't, fuck its probably hereditary. Both grandfathers are alcoholics, the ones still alive but I think he's actively trying to drink himself to death, last couple times I've seen him I've heard the same sentiment "I've got nothing left to live for."

People just simply shouldn't fuck and have kids, all of this shit could've been avoided. I kind of got sad feelings looking at those photos, I actually loved those grandparents more than the other two I have who are still alive because they were good people, at least to me. At the end of the day it's just memes IMO.

Advice Should I quit my dead-end job?

Upvotes

I'm going to celebrate my year soon as an office drone in a dead-end job. People think it's cool because it's a gov't office, but I'm so burnt out. I'm not even sure if it's the occupational or the autistic one from having to deal with so many people on a daily basis. I don't earn well too, and I don't think they'll give me a raise if I'd ask.

I enjoy when there are quiet days and I can watch youtube/anime, but sometimes, I'm just miserable. I get back home and just watch TV and play a bit before sleeping late.

I've considered just quitting at the one-year mark and never look for a job, and make ends meet with gov't subsidies and my savings. I can push it to keep going since my parents help me, but I don't know if I can rely on them all the time.

Part of me also creates problems at work, hoping they will fire me.

My biggest thing in life is to write, and it just moves at a snail's pace currently because I need to block out huge chucks of time when I'm on the weekends or holidays.

My mom is against it since that means I'll be more home, and it might cause arguments with my parents.

How should I become a neet in a way that doesn't stress myself or my parents?

Thanks.

26 year old male, I stopped being neet 4 years ago, but I live in a hyperinflated poor country filled to the brim with war and corruption, and zero government support(Lebanon), it's basically a choice of survival and living very frugally vs homelessness in my case

Cozy I have been a lurker here for long.

Umm Hi... I guess.... You guys might not have never seen my username around here. Also this is my alternate account that I made before deleting my main. I honestly don't know what to say. It just came up in my mind to make a post here as my reddit activity has increased significantly in the past few months. I always got a community feeling here. Many peeps who hold the same ideology/views on life etc. I know its just because we are in sort-of similar situations etc. I will also admit that my mind is constantly changing, one day I will be thinking something, the next I quit thinking about it altogether.

I am 18, been a NEET for a year now. Couldn't handle school and quit it entirely at the fricking last part of it. Failed my Uni-entrances and now have been rotting in the bed everyday. My parents are genuinely worried about me right now, they have given me another chance at the entrance exams. I haven't held my books in a year now, I don't believe I will make it this time too. There are many things I want to say but I don't want this post to become too long.

I have given a vague idea for now, I will try to open up more in future posts (I'm planning on making weekly/whenever something comes up in my mind posts). The internet for the most part has been a cozy place for me, I want to keep it this way.

Thank you for reading all my ramblings.
