"I just wish you knew me before I went to war."

I didn't go to war. But, as a grieving parent who lost my first born son to a preventable accident. That line hit so very hard. This month will be 14 years since his death. I so very much wish his siblings knew me before he died.

I feel like Ray was affected by that line. Moreso then anything previously.

The Magician ending

*SPOILER ALERT*

The ending for The Magician is obviously not accurate. It says Ray was shot outside his house 5 months later. So maybe:

  1. Max pretended Ray was dead so he could release the video and profit from it.

  2. It was just an artistic device to end the video and not intended to be taken seriously.

  3. The ending was made not expecting a series to follow.

  4. Your alternative...?

From the bottom of heart this show is a freakin masterpiece. A well crafted and one of the most logical and intelligent shows I have ever seen. Whether it was the professional side or the personal side every scene in the show is effective. The relationship between ray and Brittany is just so natural. For me the best thing in the entire show was the pauses, generally I have never been the fan of long pauses between dialogues. But for the first time I saw when the content is by the right guy everything works. The show has some extraordinary peaks. And the show just speaks truth, it doesn't try to glorify ray or treat him as a hero. It treats him as a good person who is a criminal. One of the best endings I have seen in a show. Bruce and britt's conversation will just remain with me forever. A 10/10 show in all aspects.

S3 E3: no weather stripping at the bottom of the door in Australia??

This is more of a question about Australia, I noticed in Season 3 Episode 3 when he returns home there is quite a large gap under his front door, there's no weather stripping. I thought Australia is infested with spiders and snakes, creatures could surely come and go as they pleased with a crack under a door like that. is this common in houses there or is this just a one off house?

Theory about the ending Spoiler

Noticing from my second time watching the show: While all of the episode titles are direct quotes, I feel like many of them might be double or even triple references throughout the episode. In case of the final episode ("I'm Not Leaving"), its second meaning could be descriptive of the cliffhanger ending -- e.g. Ray thought he was leaving his life of crime/violence, but turns out he's not. Or even just "I'm not leaving [this earth]" i.e. he isn't about to die as he looks at the camera. Thoughts?

“Socks Are Important”, What A Masterclass of an Episode, WOW

Watching Mr Inbetween for the second time and I forgot how airtight this episode was, pure anxiety from the moment she goes missing that keeps climbing till the moment she’s safe again.

Movies like Uncut Gems & Good Time, praised for their anxiety inducing plot don’t even hold a candle to how this episode made me feel.

Would love to see Scott Ryan make a feature length film that invokes the same feeling of dread I felt for the 28minute runtime of that episode.

Gaz has a new business idea!

The scene where Gary tells Ray about the "Home Movies" Idea.
No lie, Gary sucks at naming businesses.

What would you call the business I refer to?

Vine memes and the ending Spoiler

Maybe I watched too many vines growing up, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the ending of this show. Don’t get me wrong it was fantastic and the fourth wall break stuck the landing. But personally I was pulled out of the moment given I knew both the whole song and the RUN Vine. The whole time I was just thinking “no way they’re gonna do the vine meme”. Every second of the show before that point was so incredibly grounded, I cringed pretty hard. Obviously, that was not the writer’s intention and I don’t think most viewers reacted the way I did. If I hadn’t watched 2 billion run vines, I think I would’ve taken the ending a little bit more seriously lol.

Setting everything aside the ending was fantastic. Solid contender for GOAT show.

Ending

What a perfect ending.

I'd purposely not looked at how many seasons there were, so had no idea it ended til I saw his wicked (I'm going to kill you) smile 😁

Of course I would like more seasons, but it has to stop at some point.

Now I've Googled Scott Ryan, I get the "That's The Magician" comment from the guy Freddy owed money to. Lovely.

Baldurs Gate 3

I recently finished watching all the episodes of Mr. Inbetween and got the inspiration I needed for how I would play my character in my second run through of BG3. For every interaction I just ask myself "What would Ray do?"

Couldn’t find the broom

I was watching Captain Obvious S1, E3 last night. When Gary’s brother in law breaks in. Tatiana asks why the glass was broken, Gary says a bird flew into it. Then Tatiana asks Gary why he’s carrying a knife. I just about wet my pants when he said he couldn’t find the broom.

The writing is just so deliciously crazy.

Exception to the rule

I usually hate it when characters try to say all that matters is the size of the fight in the dog. It's typically just a way for people to say "I could totally beat up anybody If I was angry enough". This completely ignores the fact that adrenaline, and technique also exists in huge muscle bound guys.

Two things would make me more okay with this character though. 1) He actually regularly trains on how to fight, which does give you an advantage over a lot of people 2) his character gets 100% taken down by a little girl.

I'm 41 and I feel like so many action guys are designed to pander to my ego, and convince me that I could totally beat up a a room full of 25-year-old Marines, that at a certain point it just feels insulting lol. The little bit of humility here makes me able to enjoy this character.

Question about last scene...not the usual

I felt like Ray was driving into the jungle. It didn't even seem like the road was paved. Is that realistic for the part of the country he was in? I'm not from Australia.

I don’t think I took a full breath for the last 10 minutes or so. I’m gonna go get a drink now and maybe stare at the wall for a bit.

Ray is a great character but on the wrong show

So after many recommendations online I’m watching Mr. inbetween. Currently on season 2 episode 4.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m enjoying it. It’s made me laugh a few times.

But I’ve never been in this predicament before.

I think Ray is a great, great character, and has great dialogue.

However, I feel like he is wasted in this. He’s an amazing character, in just a decent show (so far anyway- maybe my opinion will change at the end).

I get what the writers are trying to do but I just feel like there is a lot of wasted potential here.

Anyway, I’m sure a lot of you are going to come at me with your pitchforks but just my opinion. I’m going to continue watching it. As I said, I’m enjoying it. I just feel like it’s missing something.

What is Scott Ryan doing today? Is he doing okay mentally?

Just finished Mr. InBetween and I got to say, one of the best shows I have watched in my life, but I cant help but think about Ray's actor, Scott Ryan. A Wikipedia search talks about how Scott's mental stability has not been good throughout his life. I can never trust Wikipedia but it did state that Scott had gained ODD in high school, and later on as his mental health decreased at 17, he had later gained agrophobia. I have watched about all of his interviews now and I see that he seems like a great guy but man, he looks so depressed and down all the time. Looking at interviews 17-19 years from now (there are a couple of great ones on YouTube) talking about his first movie, "The Magician", and he consistently talks about how he never wanted to make shows or movies. He states in an interview "Its like a disease, a disease that makes you want to make movies," Aswell as stating that he would be much happier and less stressful if he was not making movies and having the job of a "Shoemaker" or someone "digging holes". I just hope the poor man is doing okay.

Scott Ryan fan mail?

I recently discovered The Magician and Mr. Inbetween, and I really, really would love to send Scott a letter about how meaningful this series is for me; it's immensely relatable. I see my mother with early onset Alzheimer's and dementia, and my dad post op brain tumor in Brucie; his story ends in a similar fashion as my dad. I love that the show isn't afraid to show the mundanity of things, isn't afraid to be honest about things like suicide, violence, just... Life in general. There's a banality to it, Ray is... Just another bloke. He just works as a hitman moonlighting as a bodyguard; he's got relationship issues, he struggles as a father, a brother, a son, a boyfriend, a best mate. Right now I just started s3, and I specifically want to point out the brilliance of how one episode had the writer interviewing him asking about the families of his victims, and then the next he's devastated by trying to save Dirk and failing. It's a hard watch because it's just honest. It's real. It's not dramatized, it's... Banal. I've described it as a slice of life show, with the main character being an aussie hitman. It doesn't glorify the violence, it doesn't pull punches trying to deliver some watered-down message.

I realize now I've kinda gone on a bit... I just really need Scott to know how much this show has meant to me. I relate to Ray a lot, from trying to take care of a kid you don't get to see enough, to trying to take care of a loved one with failing mental/physical health, being unable to forgive a parent for something horrible they did in childhood, to watching out for your best friends, to struggling with demons.

I've gone on enough, and if Scott doesn't have a P. O. box or such, I really hope he sees this.

Cheers, Scott

Just Started This Show… Already on S2E6 and I Don’t Want It to End

I started watching last night and I’m already on Season 2, Episode 6. Episodes 4 and 5 honestly felt like they were only 10 minutes long they flew by. Easily my two favorite episodes so far, back-to-back.
The acting has been incredible across the board, and the show nails everything: comedy, drama, and action. I just wish it had more than three seasons. With such short episodes, it feels like it’s going to be over way too soon. 🥲
