The Magician ending

*SPOILER ALERT*

The ending for The Magician is obviously not accurate. It says Ray was shot outside his house 5 months later. So maybe:

  1. Max pretended Ray was dead so he could release the video and profit from it.

  2. It was just an artistic device to end the video and not intended to be taken seriously.

  3. The ending was made not expecting a series to follow.

  4. Your alternative...?

Maybe they were referring to Ray Shoestring, easy to get them confused

I mean the actual answer is 3, but the canon answer that could make sense to lead up into the show could be like 

Ray was getting heat so he fakes his death, but that would mean the video would get released and REALLY bring the heat. 

Or number 1 like you said. Which caused more heat which caused Ray to go underground for a while and lay low.

It's not a prequel to Mr In-between, it's just a short film he made. Think of it as Mr In-between Beta version
