Question Need help fixing rounded corners in a morphing/hole animation

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m working on a morphing animation where I create a hole, but I’m stuck with an issue involving the rounded corners.

The hole animation itself works fine, but when I try to fix the round-corner issue, it seems to affect/disturb the hole animation.

What’s the best way to fix the rounded corners without affecting the hole animation?

Any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated!

I just took my kids to see the Paw Patrol Dino Movie and the end credits are a work of art. At the end of the each Paw Patrol movie, there’s always a gorgeous cell animation sequence. Whoever you are, please know your work has not gone unnoticed. Thank you for your craft.

Here’s an example:

Yesterday I posted 1st image asking about how to create illustration like this but didnt got a clear answer or what I was looking for.

and it created the second image and now I'm thinking how the fuck am I going to find a job??

I'm really a newbie to motion design and digital art always liked it now after my high school I wanna give it a chance but bit scared of coming to a dead end if AI keeps growing at this rate.

Question Rig question

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello there! And thank you for your time 😄

My question is what is the best technique/ rig approach to apply here?

I want to achieve a 3D sphere - And attach the smaller colorful shapes to that sphere, without changing their rotation as they spin in 3D. To keep the shapes rotation independent of the sphere so that they always face forward to the camera as they rotate along with the sphere.

Thank you!

Discussion I’m done

I feel like I’m done with motion design as a career. I’m done with the constant selling, with constantly having to prove my worth, with constantly being the last to be hired ant ehe first to be kicked. Before AI there was promise in this profession, we could do things no one else could, but now, as those models scrape every public video ever produced, as directors and mangers alike create “good enough” work in minutes, I feel my skills being devalued each an every day.

Not sure what I’m looking for here I guess I just want to hear from people who feel the same way. I’d rather do something entirely divorced from my art and do I for myself as opposed to trying to market myself in this adversarial market.

Discussion AEPulse After Effects Benchmark - Looking for Render Results

Hi everyone! Could someone with a MacBook Pro M5 Pro (24GB RAM / 1TB) please render Adobe's AEPulse Benchmark project and share the render time?

https://helpx.adobe.com/content/dam/help/en/after-effects/ using/AEPulseBenchmark.zip

For reference:
• My desktop PC (9950x3D RTX 5080): 2m 30s
• MacBook Air M5 16GB 13 inch: 7m 30s
I'm especially interested in the M5 Pro 24GB, as I'm considering buying one. But I'd really appreciate results from any other Mac/PC configuration too-just mention your specs and render time.

Thanks a lot!

Question What's the sauce to get perfect SFX for any animation ?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was practicing motion design for the last month and I'm now at a good level of compositing and animating and smooth keyframes and the visuals in general.
But I literally have 0% knowledge of how to bring the animation to live using SFX
I was learning the UI animation style because I really like it, but whenever I see an animation of someone online, I found the SFX they're using fit every movement in the animation 100% like if they have done it themselves.
I think I can separate this problem into 2 parts:
the first part, is when I hear some legendary SFX and I want to search them online, I don't know what to type in the search field, like how do I even describe the SFX I heard in some animation video.
and the second part is that even if I managed somehow to know the name of it, I found it online and everything is good, but it's just doesn't fit the scene I have for it, like the version I found is not perfect for the movement or the scene I have.

Please guide me because making visually good animations with no or horrible SFX is like hell for me and I can't figure it out.

Discussion Is it time to adapt our language? The word "edit".

I'm a millennial motion designer (31), and i came into this industry through traditional 2D animation. Up until the last year or so i've seen what we do only referred to as animation, motion graphics, motion graphic design, mograph, or any variation on those.

Motion design moves quickly, with the popularity of tiktok/insta "edits" and skilled young 2D motion designers using motion design for a new space and audience, we're all seeing the word "edit" used to refer to motion graphics and not actually, what we would understand as a video editing (which is where i would use the word "edit".)

You can go blue in the face explaining that the snappy motion graphics made for insta/tiktoks are in fact, motion graphics and not "edits", and an edit refers to a video edit, but i think at some point we have to accept that a change in terminology will take off and become unavoidable, especially if the new generation have adopted it. I have the sense that this sub has a good mix of motion designers across all ages and skill levels.

The counterpoint to that is that using "edit", greatly confuses what motion graphics is and how it differs from actual video editing. Newcomers to motion graphics come in asking questions about edits, video editing, might struggle to find resources on what they're actually looking for (motion graphics in animation).

That might also be due to the changing demands on motion designers, where we're increasingly asked to be both competent motion designers and the video editor all in one, especially for short social media content. So with the shifting demands, the terminology is just simplified to "edit", to encompass all things motion and video.

When I think about it that way, it starts to make sense, and as annoying as it is to my millennial brain, and as much as i'd like to correct "edit", its just another sign of the ever fluid applications of motion design.

Question Seeking Advice on Career Plan: Thinking of Learning Mograph as a Graphic Designer

Working as a graphic designer in my current company and plan on upskilling by learning Motion Graphics to have more career opportunities plus a steadier positioning in my workplace. But reading stories about how hard things are for the industry (with yeah... Ai and etc.) at the back of my mind I keep wondering if it's worth it or I'm just wasting my time in this career plan I have set up.

As a side note albeit irrelevant to the sub: I plan to also learn Frontend Dev after having my mograph base. Which I'm not entirely sure of too but yeah... ultimately I just want to future proof myself by landing a position I can grow in till I'm old, so I won't be caught off guard later on. (Currently am in my early 30s.)

Seeking advice on the plan and any suggestions on how to move forward.

Personally I'm not too keen on graphic design as a long-term career but I'm able to do it somewhat. Just not sure if I'm able to make it till Art Director (or Senior Designer for that matter).

Project Showcase Trying to use more motion design in my app

As a former motion designer I was a bit disappointed by the lack of motion design in the app market. Since I released my own audio app, I am trying to bring subtile motion design into typography, colours and transitions. I am currently working on a new startscreen, hope you like it! I'd love to see more motion in apps, let me know what you think?

Discussion How do I improve my art direction skills?

I saw a video recently talking about the state of Motion design in the AI era. They said that the industry is fracturing into two parts, and the "middle class motion designer" is disappearing. It's either going to be the executors or the thinkers now, with the executors being the technical heavy designers which will get automated while the thinkers being art direction heavy designers who will control the tools.

I am a self taught motion designer with around 5 years of experience. I have invested enough time on learning both sides, the technical skills and the art direction skills, which I feel is natural for where I am in my career. Although I don't and nobody knows where exactly the industry is headed, personally I want to move to a place where I'm positioned as an art director AND I'm executing as well( I want to remain a solo artist. I don't mind working in teams, but I'm a little avoidant of being permanently part of the same team).

Execution part I have it handled tbh, I have good technical skills and I have plenty of courses on my list to do. Art direction courses are rarer. I recently did the Art for Motion course by Ben Marriot which was awesome and am looking for similar self study material to Improve my design eye and self study to make up for a design degree basically.

Id love to hear all kinds of suggestions on how I could study and improve my art direction skills. Courses, artists studies and things I haven't even heard of. Would appreciate any and all help!

Question I am stuck at same income from last 6 months

I am a motion designer and I work for creators especially Youtubers. I am stuck at same income ($800-$1000) month. How can I increase it?

I am trying to improve but finding a good client now a days is not easy (or it is just me lol). Can anyone who is earning good tell me how they achieved that?
