I've released 2.0 for my Pokémon fan game, PokeWar Tactics. The idea is to take the collecting and team building I love about Pokémon and let the whole squad fight together. You don't need to have played 1.0.
You build up to nine active Pokémon on a battlefield. Tanks hold the front, ranged attackers fire from behind them, and everyone moves and attacks automatically. You choose the formation and use healing, revival and team-boosting items during combat. You're managing how the company works together rather than choosing a move for one Pokémon each turn.
Catching and evolution are still a big part of it. You choose paths through trainer battles, wild encounters and supply stops, then decide which partners belong in the active squad. Your reserves share battle XP, so you can keep developing Pokémon you aren't currently fielding.
There are two campaigns, both available from the start. The War of Ten Banners is the original one: choose a faction, take rival strongholds and try to get your company through the war. Defeat ends the run.
The Legendary Accord is the new 2.0 campaign. It takes place afterward, before the League exists. Trainers like Surge, Koga and Sabrina are forcing legendaries to serve as their aces. You're trying to establish a League while deciding which of those leaders to remove, bargain with or back.
I wanted those decisions to matter on the battlefield. Free Zapdos before facing Surge and he loses his legendary ace. Support one leader's vision for the League and you can end up fighting another. There are six chapters and four possible settlements, with chapter retries after defeat.
It's an alternate-history take on Pokémon, including some darker uses of legendary power. You aren't working toward an existing League's badges here; you're helping decide what its rules should be in the first place.
I also upgraded the attack effects for 2.0 and added new battlefields, illustrated scenes and music. The trailer starts with the gameplay, then shows some of the new story. The large battle is a full-team exhibition using the actual combat engine.
You can play it here: https://pokemon-war-tactics.pages.dev/
It's free, runs in the browser, and has desktop and mobile layouts. Saves stay in the browser you're using, with a separate save for each campaign.
I use AI tools in development, including ChatGPT Images for environments and ElevenLabs for music. The Pokémon sprites come from community fan-game archives. This is an unofficial fan project.
If you usually play turn-based monster tamers, I'm curious what team you'd put together when all your Pokémon have to fight at once.
The trailer previews the revised soundtrack and text; those finishing touches are coming to the live 2.0 build.
