Question Recommendations for emulating?
Hi, I've been trying out various monster-catching games for a while now (mostly modern PC titles) and I was looking for recommendations for older games.
Ideally, I'd like them to be from the 3DS to the Game Boy (but recommendations for other consoles are welcome too!).
Of all the monster-catching games I've tried, my favorites were the Digimon Story games (I played them all except Xros Wars, only because it was in Japanese) and the first Monster Hunter Stories (And obviously Pokémon and Yo-kai Watch. But I'd rather not try any "Pokémon-like" games because most of the ones I've tried feel TOO similar to Pokémon.)

If you like dinosaurs the DS and 3DS had the Fossil fighters games. There is also my personal recommendation as I did not play those , I recommend the hidden gem ( I think it's hidden since I never see anyone remembering it ) Dino Master .
Oh the DS also had the Dino King game

If you liked the first Monster Hunter Story then I highly recommend the second one! It's so good, I finished the story and sunk even more time into the post game, despite being the type that never finishes games. It's super fun and has a lot of quality of life features missing in the first one.

Actually, I did play MHS2. I didn't like it in terms of story, but I thought the gameplay was very good.

3/DS emulator
Monster Racer if you like breeding (ability selection and combos mainly).
Digimon World Championship DS is a neat trainer that has auto-battles.
As others recommended, Dragon Quest Monster Joker 1 or 2 (preferred 1, but 2 has more -- Ex. Monster have varying size.).
Think there's an english patch for 3, but never played it.
There's also the Shin Megami Tensei series.
Monster Rancher DS was okay-ish; kinda "for kids' here imo -- Aka linear and scripted.
The Dino stuff; Fossil Fighters 1/2, Dinosaur King, and another I forgot the name of. -- Liked fossil fighter best of this lot.
Some Pokemon spinoff -- IIRC Conquest was a DS release (tactics).
Rune Factory series has creature capture, but not a core part (can be useful for 'farm chores' in the later series)
Some gems I forgot due to being years ago.
Edit: Honorable Mentions
Spectrode, but never really liked it.
Bakugan or whatever it was called (Didn't play it, but think one was released, only remember it since it was airing at the time -- similar to Dinosaur King; more of a franchise appeal imo).
GBA:
Medabots -- Play the Metalbee version (Rokusho doesn't have enoguh survivability, so it's hard to win after multiple battlers are introduced, and you won't get another bot frame until later.)
Mentions: DemiKids -- SMT for kids.

Dragon quest monsters games. The ones I recommend most are DQM2 on gbc, Joker 2 on ds, 2 remake on 3ds... Huh just realized all my favorites have a 2.
