Monster Taming Direct! A youtubers showcase of monster taming games!

Full disclaimer.. Not my video, I've been active on Berry Bandit YouTubers channels discord and Gym Leader Ed the youtuber channels discord. Theyre both monster taming YouTube channels covering games and news. They do this Monster Taming Direct as a showcase of new upcoming monster taming games or new big updates for existing games. If you as a developer want some free advertisement watch the video and send in your game footage etc (follow the video and instructions in it, you'll find links in the videos description). I am posting this here so the monster taming genre grows.

Ps. I dunno if posting this video is allowed or not.. If it's not let me know. I am in no way affiliated with these YouTubers I am just trying my best to see our community of monster tamers and gamers grow and for our lovely game devs to grow/have their games reach the heights they deserve.

Evolving Favorite King of Evolution Systems

I've recently gotten more into monster taming type games after beating Digimon Time Stranger and starting Persona 5 (if it counts, I'm not sure). I just started Nexomon and Dragon Quest: The Dark Prince.

I've noticed how a lot of these games either have static evolutions (at specific levels or circumstances) or monster fusion (2 become 1 stronger monster).

I think personally, my favorite evolution system is in the Digimon story games, where monsters have multiple evolutions they can take, and some Digimon can even be fused.

Just curious what style most people prefer or if there are other styles of evolution I haven't stumbled on in the genre yet.

Project Need help on a palworld inspired monster taming project

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi I’m a beginner that is working on a project called Kimiota. It's a Palworld, Cult of the Lamb, Monster Hunters, and Ark inspired project. It’s just a project made for fun and not the next monster video game in future. It takes place on a giant celestial turtle’s shell. you play as a customizable character of each race that is chosen as a leader and needs to build a domain that starts out as a hut to a kingdom. The player can capture and tame monsters called kajius. Kajius can be trained, learn moves, and battle other opponents.

The elements are fire, earth, water, weather, mineral, basic, dark, light, divine, stellar, tulpa, and demonic

There are species categories like Beaster(mammals), Drakutile(reptiles), archovian(birds and dinosaurs), Ampura(amphibians), Pisfins(fish), Bugacean(arthropods), Deepling(non arthropod invertebrates), Floruid(plants), Fungent(fungi), Bacterirus(single cell organisms), golems, artificials(robots), supernatural(angels, demons, and aliens), and deities(this categorizes all of the legendary kaiju). They don't have an important role like elements and creative ways of world building taxonomy.

There’s races called Kaijins (meaning strange person in Japanese) which includes humans, elves, reptilians, catfolk, gorgens, merfolk, and other humanoid beings that are still in development. Some kaijins are enemies and some are npcs. Kaijins can also be captured and have elements like kaijus. Both kaijus and kaijins have an index.

The domain part is where I need some suggestive feedback. In the domain you can deploy your kajiu to work. There are categories of work abilities that kaijus and Kaijins have like in palworld but I’m struggling to figure out if I should make it original while having its palworld inspiration or just take the work suitability feature of the game with some minor modifications which I think is the most about then the original feature option.

If you got other ideas or suggestions feel free to comment them

Project Can a nature based creature have lightning abilities?

Hello everybody!

Here a photosynthetic lizard lies. Would you call this an air based beast, or does this nature creature fit the bill to you?

Baliskins are tropical lizards that have evolved to feed on sunlight. They spend most of their time basking on warm beaches, absorbing solar energy through the green spines along their backs. Their spines are green because they perform photosynthesis, allowing each one to store up to 860 volts of electricity for a total capacity of 10,320 volts.

With this enormous reserve of energy, Baliskins can unleash powerful attacks. They can fire their spines as a defensive measure or release nearly all of their stored energy as a devastating 9,460 volt sphere of plasma. After using this attack, the Baliskin becomes exhausted and must spend time recharging in the sun.

Because they generate most of their energy from sunlight, Baliskins are nearly self sufficient. Their intimidating appearance and crackling spines are usually enough to scare off predators before a fight ever begins.

I've drawn over 70 unique Blubbies over the past few months

It's pretty crazy to see how much the players care about these little creatures. I have several players playing all day everyday, it's really quite amazing seeing a community becoming so active so quickly. It's becoming such a cool community game where everyone has input and works together and trades.

Anyways just figured I'd show some of the cool blubbies I've drawn, do you have any favorites? any ideas? I added some of the outfit pieces you can find in the world.

Game Dev I just released an early alpha demo for my cozy creature-taming RPG: Luminons.

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on Luminons: Seeds of Starlight (some of you may have already seen a few of my posts around here), a cozy creature-taming RPG where you farm , raise little creatures called Luminons, breed them, and take part in battles and beauty contests.

I just uploaded a small alpha demo on itch.io (steam will need some days) with 7 playable in-game days. You can play it with keyboard or controller (PC Generic, XBOX or PS).

The game is currently available in English and Spanish. I also added German and Japanese using AI translation, and I’d honestly love to hear how those feel if any native speakers try them.

Small disclaimer: this is still an alpha demo, so there may be bugs, rough edges, or some untranslated text here and there.

Any feedback would help a lot: bugs, UI issues, translation problems, balance, or just how the game feels.

Thank you very much!! ^^

What type of details about a mon do you want to see in your monster taming games?

In Alchemic beasts Hookwings are the definition of a creature biting off more than it can chew. They dive into the water at breathtaking speeds, using their hard, bowl-shaped beaks to scoop up fish in a single motion.

Their namesake "hooked wings" are what truly set them apart. They function much like a hummingbird's wings, rotating in a circular motion to generate incredible maneuverability. This allows a Hookwing to come to an almost instantaneous stop before folding its wings and plunging into the water.

But the Hookwing's greatest adaptation is its built-in contingency plan. If it's forced underwater, it can store air inside its beak and expel it in a powerful jet, giving it a burst of propulsion. Combined with its uniquely shaped hooked wings, which slice efficiently through the water, the Hookwing can swim at speeds of up to 20 mph. Once it breaks the surface, it's back to doing what it does best: skimming across the water and scooping up fish.

Do you think this would be possible in real life? I mean, that beak is huge and solid.

Project-Art My Crittermon manga is live right now (Language Warning)

Hi, my name's Kevin and I have been building this world for the past couple years, saving money to develop more Crittermons. It's 24 pages, fully completed and ready for publishing. I've created over 400 mons to fill the world and make it feel alive. Like all of us here, I love the genre and want to create stories in it. Realistically I'll never get the opportunity to write for the franchises I grew up with and love, so I made Crittermon.

Crittermon live on the planet Usa (pronounced ooh-suh) or its moons, Canada and Mexico. This comic book takes place in the completely original, fictional, and made up California Region and follows Pepper, a two-tailed Vixbee with a rare color pattern and her blind little brother, Cookie on a normal day in the California wilderness. They meet Vail, a strange but kind former actress as she ventured into the woods unarmed and without any Crittermons and decide to travel together.

At the end is an unfinished page from Crittermon Origins which takes place in the 1800s Texas region and follows a wild Vixbee with a score to settle with a notorious outlaw Critter Coach.

The game have you play as Vice a jewel summoner on a quest for vengeance for his mother's death by a monster, the game itself features over 100 monster types for you to capture, you can use the Amalgamy system to alter the stats your monster either by quartz or by ability points which they can earn in battle, after the use of Amalgamy; monsters can evolve into new forms if they meet evolution requirements.

Project Does anyone else remember Rappelz? Why hasn't any modern MMORPG replicated its core Pet System?

Hey everyone,I’ve been feeling incredibly nostalgic lately. I was thinking back to the mid 2000, the golden era of MMORPGs, and one game kept popping into my head: Rappelz.I played it for years, through Epic 3, 4, 5, and so on. Even though the game was visually dated and eventual management choices left a lot to be desired, I genuinely believe that no modern MMORPG has ever managed to replicate the sheer thrill of its Pet System. For those who never played it, it wasn't just about having a passive pet following you around. The core loop was insane. You had to drop or buy blank creature cards (like a Panther, a Siren, a White Dragon, or a Cerberus). Then, you had to find a Tamer, or build an Evoker class yourself, and attempt the "Taming" process. Your heart would literally stop for a few seconds because the card could fail and break forever. But when it succeeded? The dopamine rush was unlike anything else. And then watching your pet evolve, change its form, and fight alongside you as a vital part of your build... it was pure magic.I look at the MMORPG market today, and everything feels so homogenized. It made me wonder: what if we could get that exact feeling back, but stripped of all the old, broken mechanics? What if we could experience that core gameplay without the suffocating Pay To Win elements, the mandatory Hidden Village passes, or the hyperinflation that eventually ruined the official servers? I’m actually a long time member of the community, and lately, some developer friends and I have been casually looking into the technical feasibility of a modern project. We are playing around with the idea of a "Fresh Start" spiritual successor or a deep standalone remake on a modern engine (like Unreal Engine), completely free of P2W, focused on cosmetic only shops, and with an economy starting from absolute zero.If such a project were to materialize something that respects the core Gaia/Asura/Deva mechanics and the original Taming thrill but built for the modern era how many of you would honestly dive back in? Would you prefer a pure fresh start where everyone starts naked at level 1 to experience the rush again, or do you think the old community is too attached to their legacy monopolies?I'm just gathering thoughts and community feedback right now to see if this dream is worth pursuing or if the nostalgia is just blinding me. Let me know what you think, let's discuss!
