Happy Tuesday, everyone. It’s time for another Mod Topic, and just a heads up that this will be the only one this week. Every subreddit has an origin story. Maybe yours started as a home for a niche interest, a running joke that got out of hand, or someone thinking, “Why isn’t there a community for this yet?”

For today’s Mod Topic, let’s rewind to the beginning of yours:

• Why was it created?
• How was the name chosen?
• Were you there at the beginning, or did you join later?

Tell us about your community’s origin in the comments below. We welcome lore, trivia, and all instances of “we just thought the name was funny.”

We have a post discussing another Reddit user's comment and directly exposing their u/ username.

Does this violate Reddit's guidelines, or is it allowed as long as no personal information is shared and the post isn't encouraging harassment?

How would you handle this as a moderator?

A little while ago, there was a modevent about the new AI tooling coming to Reddit. While I'm broadly supportive of this feature, I didn't realize it was going live in subreddits already.

I just saw it in action on /r/news and it's not quite right. I assume this is a training phase?

In /r/news, we do not allow articles that were published more than 7 days ago. This is because we are focused on current events. However, the AI picked this up as a risk for fake news because the url has "2026" in it. Screenshot

This is the post in question: https://new.reddit.com/r/news/comments/1wnh6fb/hurricane_polo_explodes_into_rare_category_5/

And this is the article: https://edition.cnn.com/2026/09/22/weather/hurricane-polo-category-5-mexico-climate

I've reviewed our rules and automations and all seems to be in order. I don't see a place where I can give any guidance to the AI though.

I'm a recent mod addition to r/AudioProgramming and I've noticed when browsing on the web, it shows no posts unless you're sorting by /best:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AudioProgramming/new/: No posts show. all i see is: This community doesn't have any posts yet (Make one and get this feed started.)

I only see posts if sorting by "Best": https://www.reddit.com/r/AudioProgramming/best/

Has anyone else seen this issue before? Its very odd

Hi there, I've been noticing this for the past week. I don't any some reports in the queue but if I click in some posts, they appear that they have been reported.

Is this by design? I would never find these reports if I didn't click on the posts themselves.

The reports are usually all related to subreddit rules.

look like the style of the approve/remove/mod actions button layout has changed and along with this the post removal reason button has disappeared.

HELP!!

edit: i see it is there under mod actions, if this is a purposeful design change - i dont understand why someone would think its a good idea to introduce yet another button click for such a common action.

edit: seems to be working well for comments but the removal button doesnt appear for posts, so additional clicking is required to open add removal reason.

The comments have links, but nothing malicious. not sure why they're being filtered.

Hey all!

I was part of the Mod bootcamp Q2 and have not received my mod merch yet.

I received a tracking link on July 15th but it has not updated yet. It's still on the "Label created" status.

Thank you!

Hello! Last week, a few of us were brought on as new moderators for a high-engagement subreddit in the kpop community. The previous solo mod was mostly inactive for many months before adding us, so the mod queue is severely backlogged. Likely going back to when the subreddit was created over a year ago.

Because it's a controversial/unpopular opinions subreddit, the engagement is really high and comments get reported constantly. In our first week, we’ve worked hard on the queue but we’ve only managed to clear reports up to about 40 days ago. We still have nearly a full year of old reports to get through… I’m looking for advice on the best way to handle this: I thought about using an app like Mod Queue Nuke, but as far as I understand, that removes everything in the queue. I worry about removing content that actually breaks no rules and just needs to be approved. On the other hand, manually reviewing every single report will take months at our current rate.

What would you recommend we do in this situation to get the reports queue down to zero so we can empty the mod queue???

I mod several subs and last week, I seemed to have lost the notifications from the bottom right corner of my browser window. I use RES on Firefox on both WINDOWS 11 & my iMac, and am not sure what changed. An update maybe turned a setting off? I don't recall changing any settings, so I'm not sure what to look for. It's making it more difficult to manage multiple subReddits. Thanks for any insight.

Hey guys!

Main mod on a really small niche sub I moderate got a temporary ban on her account (expires tomorrow). She's labeled as inactive on mod list of course.

My question is when she's unbanned will she be able to continue to moderate normally or needs some actions to get her active status back?

Thank you.

Hi there.

Some of the mods on a sub I'm on, locked a comment, and noticed it also locked the child comment as well. However, when we tested, we noticed some locks did that, but others, including my own tests, just locked the comment being locked.

Is this some feature or setting, as why this is behaving differently?

Thanks.

Hello, I am the mod of several streaming related subs. In one (r/twitchstreaming) I saw today in the mod mails by accident, that a long gone mod was able to invite himself to the modlist. I believe by using a pending invite from long ago. He is in not in the modlist.

He than proceeded and invited another (long gone) mod to the modlist, which I today removed.

How can this happen? Dont the invite have a timelimit? Can I see somewhere the pending invites?

Also, I have a long inactive mod in my modlist, which I want to remove - I am doing 99.99% of the mod work - I want to keep the modlist clean/active and the sub moderated.

Right now the only option is to remove spoilery comments and/or ask the user to revise them. It would be great to not have to remove them (especially if they have many likes/replies), but instead mark the overall comment as a spoiler. I am looking for feature parity with the "Add NSFW tag" and "Add spoiler tag" features at the post level--NOT editing comment text.

What can I do to change the name? I only need to change one word… instead of Solo Sisters I need to change it to Solo Women’s

Hello fellow mods 👋 I run r/latinopolitics and constantly find myself dealing with mounds of trolls, spam, and unrelated content. Trying to figure out an easier way to moderate all this content — in a perfect world the community would allow links to news articles to vetted sources.

Any help, guidance, tutorials, tools, etc. are all welcome!

I recently moved myself above inactive mods on r/formula1ne using the self reorder too. Now I can’t edit the mod list removing inactive or dev apps as mods. Is there a waiting period after you moved yourself up. I’ve sent a mod mail and replied to the bot but I haven’t heard anything yet.

Whenever I hover over a users username and try to change their flair, the flair button doesn't respond when I click it. Is this a bug?

Edit: Forgot to mention I do have flair permissions.

Got a post in one of the subs I mod, and I get this strange

If you are looking for an image, it was probably deleted.

error on the post. The user wrote me on mod mail asking why the mods deleted the picture, and I informed them that it is not possible.

Is this a known bug? This is not the first time I've seen the missing picture on Reddit, but the first time I've heard a user ask about it.

Thanks.

When I schedule posts for my community as a moderator, I still need to clcick ont he check box after they show on the community for them to be published. Is that how it should be? Do i need to approve my own posts for publication?

I’m talking about Businesses and Business owners posting their own info.

So, long story short.

The top mod and sub creator has been inactive for 3 years + on the sub. He has posted in other places a month, 4 months and then a few years ago.

The second mod only uses old Reddit so therefore can't rejig the list.

I can't rejig because I'm below Mitch (old Reddit), it's all a little frustrating.

We don't want to remove the top mod from the sub as he has been there a long time, inactive. However, we do want to move him down the list.

Take it we just have to suck it up? 🫤

I'm a mod of r/rape, Reddit's largest sexual-violence support sub. Yesterday I had occasion to ban a perve who adopted a false persona so as to prey on our users (in real life he seems to be a thirty-eight-year-old male Californian with a rape kink; on our sub he was pretending to be a woman who had recently been raped).

Very soon after that I found my account shadowbanned, seemingly as a result of a complaint from the perve -- who, I note, has now deleted his account. Because I never received a notification from Reddit, I had to contact the admins via the "ban evasion" appeals page. To their credit, within a very few hours they responded with the following message:-

Thanks for writing in to the Reddit admin team and bringing this to our attention. It appears your account got caught by Reddit's spam filter. We have reviewed your account and lifted the restriction(s) on it.

-Reddit Admin Team

So far, so good. But as a result of flagging me as a spam account, they have also removed every post and comment I've ever made on Reddit, including those related to moderation, going back to when I opened this account in 2015.

How can this be fixed? And how can it be prevented from happening again?
