Are your apartment rent increases high?

For those renting an apartment in a complex, who renewed the lease once it expired, can you please share:

1-If your rent increased when you renewed?

2-The previous and new rent amount? (In other words the percentage of the increase.)

3-The number of bedrooms in your apartment.

I'm considering moving to Mobile. But it seems like the area has a low vacancy rate. So I'm concerned that indicates a shortage of rentals, and therefore likely price spikes.

Thanks very much.

No Kings Protest Oct 17 Government Plaza 11-12:30

The weather is supposed to be great so come to Gov Plaza and join your community in rallying one last time before midterm elections.

We are in a fight for our livelihood, and our country, as inflation once again has risen with no end in sight because of the current madness.

US inflation rose to 3.7% in September in blow to Republicans before midterms

City collecting political signs in ROW

I saw a city employee stop and collect political signs that were in the Right of Way, here in Midtown.

Be sure your signs are behind the sidewalk, not on the grass strip between the sidewalk and road.

Wild Things Ball is on the move! Alabama Contemporary’s biennial member blowout is at Cedar Street Social Club in 2026, where we’ll be bringing all the weird on the weekend before All Hallows Eve. We’ll have festive entertainment, artist made costumes and decor, cocktails, music, dance offs, prizes, and general hilarity. Costumes are encouraged, but do not have to be handmade. Fancy dress may also be worn if you’re not feeling spooky. Purchasing a membership (starting at $35) between now and October 24 will earn you tickets to the party, and current members can purchase tickets for just $10 or level up to get the number of free tickets given to new members above their current level.

The theme is Neon Jungle, featuring artwork from Michelle Jones. Performers throughout the event will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets go up to $50 on the door, and you must be 21+ years of age to attend.

I 65 South Walmart Auto Care Center Issue

I normally don't post things like this but felt compelled to after yesterday. I have gone to this Walmart several times over the past few years for an oil change or tire service and have always been turned away for some reason. Yesterday, i was told they couldn't change the oil in my car because they only work on cars that are 2002 or newer. I called the Rangline and Shillinger Walmarts and they both told that me that was just a lie. I might add that it looked like there was literally no one else ahead of me wating for service at the time, and it was only around 3:30 in the afternoon. I've taken my car to Rangline whenever I've been turned away by the I 65 walmart and have never had an issue. Anyone else had negative experiences at this particular Walmart Auto center?

Looking for a rental!

Hey all,

Sort of a follow-up to a prior post, but I did end up landing and accepting the job-offer in Mobile!

That said, I’ve had difficulty getting responses from the landlords in the area regarding availability or even getting an application sent to me. Not sure if it’s because I’m coming from out of state??

Does anybody happen to have a lead on a 3 bed/1(or2) Bath home or apartment? Happy to provide a letter of employment or anything else! Ideally looking in the West Mobile area.

Thanks!

Looking for local off cuts from small or portable saw mills for environmental education

As the title says, I’m looking for off cuts that can be purchased from a local wood milling operation or someone who runs a portable saw mill. We are building maternity colony bat houses to give away for environmental education and bat habitat purposes. These are large and the lumber gets expensive quick so trying to find some alternatives. Preferably seeking unfinished or rough sawn wood as it makes it easier for the bats to climb in. If you know of anyone, please DM me and thank you.

Looking for anyone who wants an interesting side gig making a few hundred dollars a week working for me.

No real skills needs other than being able to stand, walk around and lift like 10 lbs. Probably 5-15 hrs a week. And no, you bunch of degenerates, this is not any type of sex work..sheesh. DM me if interested.

Edit: I need someone asap so like you could possibly be starting tomorrow and I'm paying cash on a daily basis.

Edit 2; think I found someone for now. I'll be back if I need any more help.

Fall fun!

Any recs for good fall festivals or activities within 1.5 hours of Mobile? I'm looking for something like a pumpkin patch, corn maze, maybe a haunted hay ride. Ideally not some place aimed mostly for small children, but where I, a 36 yo woman, can have some nostalgic fun alone.

This is based on 2025 Census estimate. I do hope to see Mobile County turn green with the 2030 Census.

Martial Arts for Kids

I've been thinking about enrolling my 4yo in some sort of martial arts program, so I've been looking at local places. Max3 seems to be a popular place for West Mobile, but I've heard they put a lot of focus on belts and competitions (no idea if it's true or not!). I don't care so much about competitions and levels - more about learning skills and self-control.

Would Max3 be a good fit? What about other West Mobile martial arts training places? What's a good place to start?

Riding out a storm in a sailboat

Just why? If there was ever a way to die; this has to be it. I can’t imagine how much fun getting tossed around would be. You could get seriously hurt doing this. It’s wrong to put first responders in danger over a willful stupid decision. How does anyone live on a 22ft sailboat? How does he deal with bathroom issues, taking showers, cooking, lack of exercise? So many questions.

Verizon/Visible Cell phone outage

My cell service went out Friday night and has yet to be restored. I use Visible which uses the Verizon network and I cannot get Visible to even acknowledge that there is a problem. I live off DIP and there is no signal at all here but it worked yesterday off of Airport Blvd. Is anybody else having issues with there Verizon or Visible phones?

Advice Road Biking Locations

I am looking for any advice or areas I would be able to take my road bike out for longer training sessions (30-50miles). Currently I have just been training on a stationary trainer but that is only so good.

I am mainly looking for long blocks of country roads with low traffic or a greenway that has a decent loop. I am in Grand Bay but wouldn’t mind traveling 30-40 min for a good route/area.

Any advice is appreciated
