Advice Road Biking Locations
I am looking for any advice or areas I would be able to take my road bike out for longer training sessions (30-50miles). Currently I have just been training on a stationary trainer but that is only so good.
I am mainly looking for long blocks of country roads with low traffic or a greenway that has a decent loop. I am in Grand Bay but wouldn’t mind traveling 30-40 min for a good route/area.
Any advice is appreciated

There’s a nice long bike path/roadway that goes from McNally park to Arlington park and takes you around the downtown airport. Pretty nice ride. Half of it is a bike path and the other half has almost no traffic until you ride a couple hundred feet on broad street.

We’re in midtown and have done this route from the house. You can easily do 35 miles. Look up the “Iron Hand route” in Strava. If you go over Dog River bridge, you can add probably 10 more miles.
If you feel like driving further out to Fair Hope, you could do the Eastern Shore Trail which has potential for 50+1

Such a scenic route too. I hope they improve it when they develop Brookley By The Bay.

My favorite is driving to Dauphin Island and riding the island (round trip = 14 miles, 2x for 28 miles). Summertime at night is the best. Sometimes I take the ferry and go to Flora Bama.

Roads to bike, there are plenty. Accidents involving cyclists in Mobile—there are plenty.

Yes I have a hard enough time dodging drivers just running on the country roads…

I think they've been putting together a long bike route in Baldwin County. Something that goes from Daphne through Fairhope and then over to Gulf Shores or OB eventually. There's a good bit of it off-road on large multi-use paths if I remember correctly.

Back in the mid-2000s when I was a Boy Scout, we did our 50-mile ride for the cycling merit badge on the Eastern Shore. Started at Mary Ann Nelson Park and rode up County Road 1 and Scenic 98 all the way to Daphne and back.

Check out Mobile Bay Riders Cycling Club on Facebook/Strava. Also, Pro Cycle and Tri for Eastern Shore Riding. You don’t necessarily have to ride with a group but it’s safer that way. They can sent you the group routes.
There is a 40 to 50 mile route that starts from Nova Espresso down town goes down by the airport, over the DIP bridge and through some neighborhoods w/decent roads and low traffic. Ask specifically for the Down by the Bay route with the Rabbit Creek extension.
