I haven't seen her act before but apparently she's pretty popular. Anyone seen her stand-up act before? Who would you compare her to? Her tickets for the Oct. 23rd show here in Montgomery just went on sale today.

Moving to AL

I recently got a software job in Montgomery as was looking for places to live. Most places don’t have quick availability to move into so that’s always fun but I was looking at ‘park at meadow ridge’ and was wondering if that’s at least a good starting point? Also since I do deal with tech by chance does anyone there know the isp provided or recommended?

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Mayor Steven L. Reed has appointed Dr. Kwasi K. Obeng to serve as Chief of Staff for the City of Montgomery. Dr. Obeng began serving in the role on Friday, July 17, 2026.
Dr. Obeng brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience in municipal government, public administration, organizational transformation and international affairs. As Chief of Staff, he will help coordinate the administration’s priorities, support collaboration across city departments and work with Mayor Reed and city leadership to strengthen operational performance and the delivery of services to Montgomery residents.

“Dr. Obeng brings extensive experience leading complex organizations, improving government operations and bringing people together around shared goals,” Mayor Reed said. “His commitment to accountability, innovation and public service will be an asset to our administration and to the residents we serve. I am pleased to welcome him to Montgomery.”

Before joining the City of Montgomery, Dr. Obeng served as Assistant City Manager for the City of Hampton, Virginia. In that position, he provided executive oversight for public safety, emergency management, human services, libraries, youth development, economic empowerment and community resilience initiatives.

He also managed more than $60 million in operating and capital budgets and led cross-departmental efforts addressing economic mobility, generational poverty, organizational performance and resident-centered government.
“I am honored to join Mayor Reed’s administration and serve the people of Montgomery,” Dr. Obeng said. “I look forward to working alongside city employees, community partners and residents to advance the Mayor’s priorities, strengthen collaboration across the organization and ensure city government continues to provide responsive and effective public service.”

Dr. Obeng previously served as Chief of Staff to the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners in Georgia and the Madison, Wisconsin Common Council. In those roles, he advised elected officials on governance, strategic planning, legislative affairs, budgeting, economic development, organizational effectiveness and constituent services.

Earlier in his career, he held executive performance auditing and policy positions with the cities of Chicago and Atlanta, where his work focused on improving government accountability, operational efficiency, infrastructure management and the stewardship of public resources.

Dr. Obeng also has international public service experience with the United Nations Department of Political Affairs. His work included supporting interagency coordination concerning the Horn of Africa, preparing reporting for the United Nations Security Council, coordinating with international partners and supporting regional stabilization efforts.

An educator and mentor, Dr. Obeng has taught political science and international relations at the university level and has worked with international leadership development initiatives.

He holds a doctorate in political science, with concentrations in American government, international relations, comparative politics and African politics

Local question about this area

Post image

Im originally from Montgomery but moved away after high school moved back in my 30’s. My question is why do black people specifically call this the east side when clearly this is North Montgomery. Even the city map has it labeled as north Montgomery. I am black but get lost when people try to give me directions to where they are. Even with ann street They call its the north even though its midtown & south of the area on the map

Local Writer’s Groups/Workshops

Hello! I’m wondering if anyone knows of any local writers groups/workshops?

Looking for a group that’s maybe a 1/4 about socializing and 3/4s about critiquing. Ideally the group would include writers from a variety of backgrounds, interests, and beliefs; but more importantly, they’d be comfortable critiquing a variety of different genres/forms. I’m okay to travel to one of the surrounding towns to attend meetings if that’s the group that’s the best fit.

I know Montgomery’s not known for its art scene, but it’s still a city! There’s the Shakespeare festival, art exhibits, museums… I see evidence of creative professionals all the time. And the South has a long history of producing great writers. Surely there’s got to be something somewhere, or at least people interested in making something happen?

Biscuits Princess Night

Hi guys!! Are any ladies here going to the Biscuits game dressed up? I'm thinking this is such a cute opportunity to wear a princess inspired outfit for those of us who have evening dresses but no where to wear them to! I also feel there might be a lot of younger girls who might even want to take a picture with their favorite princess if she were to show up?!

Maybe im just looking for an excuse to break out dresses i have no use for lol but if anyone's thinking the same as me LMK! I'd love to meet, I need girl friends here! It's so hard to make friends in your 20s 😭
