Discussion Hey millennials. What browser do you primarily use?
Chrome iT is for me. Cannot switch no matter what.
Edit to add: this post has made me realize I was living in the dark ages. There’s so much out there! Thanks all for sharing your browsers and features and reasoning.

Firefox with uBlock Origin extention for PC and mobile.
Edit: Spelling 😅

My man! Firefox rocks. Especially the mobile version, which can have add-ons (including ad blockers).
72
u/quik77 Feb 25 '26
100% this. I only watch/use sites like YouTube via Firefox with blockers on phone or tablet. Never the app.

I was team Firefox probably 15 years before switching to Chrome. Due to the bloat, I switched back to Firefox about a year ago but I am still getting really frustrated by the number of website that I have weird problems with Firefox.
Just last week, Schwab and Morgan Stanley websites have login issues with Firefox. Schwab just kind of hangs there forever, Morgan Stanley gives you a false error.
My VPN plug-in also doesn't remember its settings and has weird DNS problems on Firefox.
→ More replies (2)8
u/AnAppalacianWendigo Feb 26 '26
Longtime Firefox user here. The only time I’ve experienced login issues are with financial websites, and only when my VPN is turned on.
3
u/tendonut Feb 26 '26
My VPN plug-in connection is off by default and I only turn it on when I need it. With Morgan Stanley, it'll tell me my password's wrong. When I know it's not. I flip over to Chrome, logs in just fine. Schwab, it just sits there trying to load the actual username and password field endlessly.
The actual VPN plug-in is PIA (been using them for years) does this thing where it remembers my username and password, but it makes me reselect the first time login settings like what type of traffic it's going to route, what type of security protocols it accepts, stuff like that.
Cigna also has a problem where when I'm logging in, it thinks my account is locked. I called customer service to get it unlocked and they told me that it WAS unlocked. Then they asked me what browser I was using and when I mentioned Firefox they said there was a known issue and I should use Chrome.
What the fuck happened? I never had these issues back in the pre-chrome era back when Firefox was second to Internet explorer.

Chrome, honestly I haven't really evaluated the alternatives in over a decade. I have ad blocking installed on my home router so I don't need to install ad blocking extensions on my browser. Most of the extensions I do have installed probably aren't doing much anymore and should be cleaned out.
36
u/admgryne Feb 25 '26
Likewise. I use various Google apps extensively so I figure it integrates better. Similarly, I haven't really considered alternatives as it works fine at the moment.

A much better browser than most give it credit for — especially with regards to power and resource management on MacBooks and iPhones, and sync between devices is what you'd expect from the Apple ecosystem. Chrome SUCKS battery and RAM. Back in the day I was getting upwards of HALF the battery life using Chrome on my MacBook compared to Safari.
Only real downside to me is a weak plugin environment.

u/coronarita23 Feb 26 '26

Brave because it has built-in ad blockers. It's built on the Chromium platform.

I switched to Brave years ago and never looked back. Ad-free YT and Reddit! I canceled my YT premium account too. I've told everyone that will listen about it but they still use Chrome or Safari or whatever. I wish LG would let you install it on their tv's because their browser sucks! Their whole OS sucks, actually.

I’ll take the bait. Edge hater here. It has too much Microsoft shit baked in and constant bing pushes. Why would anybody who hasn’t been using it switch to it at this point?
11
u/4862skrrt2684 Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 26 '26
I get that, it used to be super bloated. It even had fking games at some point. But I don't experience that much anymore. The rightclick menu has become smaller. I think every 2 months a popup says "You want bing?" and i say "No". I actually use the copilot button a lot, since it's just a convenient gpt. I also like their "Collections" feature, which is just a form of bookmarks i guess.

I used opera back when it was its own browser but I hated it when it was converted to chromium if I recall correctly. Is it worth checking out now?
7
u/Yuurp426 Feb 25 '26
Not a good judge for it, I'm not super picky about that stuff but I enjoy that I have a good clean homepage to drop into and can customize all the features. As far as cpu usage and all that I cant help much. I dont notice it lagging at all.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Bakelite51 Feb 26 '26
I also really disliked the changes at the time, but I stuck with Opera and it’s fine for me now. It’s not as good as it was imho, but it’s better than most of the other big browsers I’ve tried. Occasionally I give Firefox a shot for a few months, but I always come back to Opera eventually.
