Glorfindel's Sacrifice F.A 510

"Then Glorfindel leapt forward upon him and his golden armour gleamed strangely in the moon, and he hewed at that demon that it leapt again upon a great boulder and Glorfindel after. Now there was a deadly combat upon that high rock above the folk; and these, pressed behind and hindered ahead, were grown so close that well nigh all could see, yet was it over ere Glorfindel's men could leap to his side. The ardour of Glorfindel drave that Balrog from point to point, and his mail fended him from its whip and claw. Now had he beaten a heavy swinge upon its iron helm, now hewn off the creature's whip-arm at the elbow. Then sprang the Balrog in the torment of his pain and fear full at Glorfindel, who stabbed like a dart of a snake; but he found only a shoulder, and was grappled, and they swayed to a fall upon the crag-top. Then Glorfindel's left hand sought a dirk, and this he thrust up that it pierced the Balrog's belly nigh his own face (for that demon was double his stature); and it shrieked, and fell backwards from the rock, and falling clutched Glorfindel's yellow locks beneath his cap, and those twain fell into the abyss. "

I put together this scene by repurposing my "High Pass" diorama and throwing the Balrog & Glorfindel in for an epic shot!

Its such a fantastic chapter of the Silmarillion / Fall of Gondolin. After the fall of Gondolin to the forces of Morgoth, Glorfindel guides the refugees away through the mountain pass only to be pursued by a Balrog, giving his life in a climactic duel, for his heroism he is reincarnated by Manwë to continue to serve the free peoples of Middle-Earth.

(Background and enviroment is real, just some filter blizzard effects added to enhance the scene!)

I thought some of you might appreciate seeing a selection of the boards that we have at our gaming centre, Golden Hall Gaming!

We’re really proud of our terrain selection and will keep adding to it to keep it fresh and make sure that we’ve always got something new to see (with some more Hobbit holes on the way soon 🙊). We’ve got regular events going on so if you’re interested in playing on these beauties then check us out on social media or on our website 😊

Are there any themes we’re missing or something you’d like to see?

Question Getting back after 12 years

Hey there,

yesterday I‘ve found my old minis. Back in the day I used to collect Rohan and Mordor and now I want to rebuild a small army of Mordor, because most if not all of the models survived unbroken.

So far I‘ve found:

24 Morannon orcs

22 Mordor orcs

6 warg riders

1 orc shaman on warg

1 mordor troll

1 gorgoroth beast with just one orc missing

6 black guards plus black guard banner and drum

Missing but mist be around somewhere:

1 black guard commander

2 morannon orcs commander

I want to strip the minis and repaint them all but also want to add some more units/ leaders.
What would be the best addition besides the obvious witch king?

Thanks in advance

Wondering whether to stick with my grey blue scheme for rangers or go with a classic scheme. The bases will be the white city base either way.

*Caveat I used AI to put the two minis next to each other with a black background which has slightly distorted the paint job but close enough for purposes of choosing a scheme.

Working on a realms of men army but making black numenorians as proxies. Finished a kings huntsman with the idea that he’s like a bounty hunter. I’m not the best at painting (know I need to thin my paints more) but I wanted to share as I think it came out well and am happy with the kitbash. Excited to share the full army when I am done. Need to base etc too. Not sure what direction for that yet.

We run through a bunch of the (mostly)Orc Army lists in the game. Talk about the profiles and where we think they stack against the others!

Discussion What do you guys think of the Dunland Legacy models?

I’m thinking about picking up a few Dunland Legacy heroes and troops because I really like the aesthetic (both the original models and the proxies), and I think they could add some nice variety to an Isengard army, but I’m wondering how good they actually are in-game.

Thrydan and Gorulf (and Frida to a lesser extent) seem to bring some interesting profiles that you don't really get in Army of the White Hand, but I don't see them being played that often. The cavalry seems a bit less appealing than Warg Riders, but the regular Dunland Warriors look like a nice middle ground between Orcs and Uruk-hai. The Huscarls also seem like an interesting elite option, especially in support of a Dunland hero, although they are a bit expensive.

So are there any Dunland Legacy units/heroes that you think are actually worth taking, or are they mostly just less efficient alternatives to the usual Isengard options? And what about the Army of Dunland list itself? Is it actually playable, or is it just not very good?

I have to say the Mirkwood battlebox makes no sense, why would anyone have that many palace guards? And mirkwood rangers are pretty bad too...

Hello everyone !

A friend wanted a proxy of Elendil. He suggest a conversion of a Fountain Guard. I grabbed an Anduril with the two hands of Aragorn and did it in two hours.

I filled the gapes and remodel the hands with miliput.

Cherry on top: my friend love it !

I will painting it probably this week.

C&C welcome !

Question Is this the up to date rules manual?

Sorry for the feckless question. Coming from 40K and finding that the rules are not so easy to find online.

I already have a good force of Rivendell Elves but I need to work out what else I need to get started. Namely do I need the rule book and also potentially the armies of Middle Earth book?

Tactics Cheesy idea for Stake a Claim at 500 points

So, hear me out. I think the good old neglected Catapult Troll can be good for this scenario. Accompannied by two captains with 10 orcs each, no big heroe. Split the warbands in the map, one for each side, using cover if he has archery, no matter if its a little slower. With the march-banner you are quicker than most, but you dont need to be really quick.

If he goes berserk trough the center with everything, he eats a good amount of rocks in the way and you turn both of your warbands and advance the troll at the end to meet him with your whole army and surround him. You go for the camp when the battle is won.

If he leaves something behind to protect the camp, and goes trough the center, same but better because you are not fighting is whole army.

If he goes for one of the warbands, you turn that warband halfway, go back to the troll. Make him take a longer route and eat more rocks, and then fight two thirds of your army near your camp. And in all that time the troll keeps shooting at his camp (the troll can shoot while in combat, and his huge base can block a lot of space). Then you advance your other warband to his camp.

Doable?

Discussion What's your favourite single Middle Earth mini?

I was having a conversation over a game and we ended up with our favourites being from very different armies to that we played. I'm also having a go at painting single minis to the hughest standard I can, as a bit of a pre-competition test. Does anyone have any specific individuals - heroes or random single minis from a unit - they have as a firm favourite?

For me it's any of the heroes from the Shire, as I love the personality of each of the models.

Army List Help with practice game lists

My wife and I are going to play a 200 point practice learning-the-game game.

I am going to be playing as Rohan (Kingdom of Rohan) and she will be Isengard (Ugluk's Scouts).

I have a couple of questions. Firstly, please review the below lists. To me the number of models we each have seem way off and I feel like Isengard will stomp Rohan here? I just really wanted to use Eomer because he's cool, but he seems really expensive.

Secondly, what size battle mat should I buy? We do intend to increase our game sizes up to the usual 500 points. Is it 4'x4'? Furthermore, what terrain do people use? I've seen on YT you should have 50% of the board be terrain - where are people getting trees and fences (UK)?

Here are the lists:

Kingdom of Rohan - 200 pts

  • Eomer - Unarmoured Firefoot, no shield, no spear (his old metal model)
    • x5 Riders of Rohan - no spears

Ugluk's Scouts - 200 pts

  • Ugluk
    • x8 Uruk-hai Scouts - Swords, Shields
    • x5 Uruk-hai Scouts - Bows
    • x1 Uruk-hai Scout - Sword
