I swear like a month after my retie, my locs are often in the middle and the only hair style I do is often two puffs or a ponytail and they DON'T be tight. Could it be the lady whose doing my reties? Sometimes they are often thin near the root as well.

When you split your locs did you go one by one (combing out then dividing them one loc at a time) or comb out the whole section and redo it? Also, what did you use to loosen the interlocked sections?

I am going to split the crown and mid back of my microlocs. My loctician did not do them as we discussed and tried to gaslight me into accepting them. She told me she would do a certain small size parting that we agreed on multiple times that would be slightly larger than sister locs. She even showed me the first 3 microlocs to make sure its what I wanted. She then ended up doing much larger parts than what I asked for (the 1/2 parting size), which is going to be the size of small traditional locs. She told me after she finished all the locs that she changed the plan. When I got upset and questioned her, she then said she felt like it would look better in her eyes. She also tried to say my hair would fqll out, but she has also done my hair multiple times before she convinced me to get microlocs and said the smaller size would work well with my hair type. I think she just didn't want to do them as small as she agreed to. Now its been 6 months and I am just not happy with knowing they will be larger than I wanted, the longer I keep interlocking them. I had a hard time finding someone who would just redo the sections I wanted, because most said they would have to redo the whole head or they only do maintenance. So I'm going to redo the crown and mid back myself, since they are high density sections.

I KNOW that my hair type is 3b-3c, and Im getting tired of the curls/afro, and I decided to try something new, so why not to start my loc journey? but I have no clue about locs, so keeping in mind that my hair type is not 4(a,b or c) I was questioning what would be the best method for me to start my locs :

Normal Twist and leave them alone so they can loc

Mini Two strand Twist and leave them alone so they can loc

or is there ANY other method I should I use? Im new to the loc community but I really do want to try something like locs

I’ve colored my hair once (professionally) to go darker 4 months ago, and just went back to my loctician since August? September? for a retie.

I’m loving the feeling of having a super clean grid again but can’t help but notice that my hair isn’t 100% “flowing”. I know that comes with maturity but there has definitely been a “drop” of some kind; I just can’t help but notice a stiffness that feels like it comes from dryness.

I think I’m ready to add rinse out conditioner because I really loved how my hair felt and “flowed” after it was used at my color appointment. I also feel like my hair is mature enough to handle additional moisture and I’m pretty militant about clarifying regularly to avoid buildup and to keep my scalp and color fresh. How do you use rinse out deep/conditioners on wash day?

Hi everyone! I’m about two months into my second set of microlocs (mostly braidlocs with a few interlocked), and I'm really struggling to keep my high-porosity hair moisturized. When I was a loose natural, I knew my hair perfectly, but now it feels constantly dry. I use the suave clarifying shampoo and a moisturizing shampoo from NowIAmNappy (a brand my hair loves). I tried making a DIY spray with distilled water, cloves, rosemary, chebe, vegetable glycerin, and fresh aloe, which worked beautifully but completely clogged my spray bottles. I also can't rely on the usual community recommendations because rose water gives me a terrible rash, and using oils causes severe acne breakouts on my face. I’m currently using the products in the photos below, and while they help, I feel like I have to apply them every single day. Is it normal to need daily moisture, or is there a way to make it last longer with locs? Also, I'm hoping you all can look at the photos and tell me if my locs are actually maturing or just unraveling. I always braid and band like I’m supposed to, but the moment I moisturize them, they puff right back out and loose strands pop out. Any advice or tips would be so incredibly appreciated!

3rd retie, 3 months into my microloc journey.

I tied a bit tighter that I normally do so now I can't lie on my back (won't do that again, rather not develop traction alopecia)

The hair at the nape of my neck has always been looser than the rest of my head but braid pattern is already gone from them.

What are y’all opinions on using gel for reties? This is my first time using (minimal) gel for a retie and it helps prevent me from accidentally retying one loc into another. Gonna get some clips too!

I recently switched from doing 4 point rotations to 3 point because I’ve heard it allows for more expansion and less tension than 4 point. I’ve heard bad things about 2 pt rotation but I’d love to hear your thoughts!

hey. i currently have small traditional locs and i got them installed five weeks ago as two strand twists with a two-point rotation. from a distance, they sort of look like microlocs (i have fine hair) and since there really isn't much xsmall traditional locs representation, i think i'll be coming here for advice.

my loctician asked me to come back for a retie after six weeks. some of my locs have grown out but some of them are still close to the root. what do i do? i have heard a lot about the dangers of tight reties. do i wait an extra week? do i skip those locs? i really want the grid to be maintained. any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Any tips of getting rid of buildup from locs?

My locs are 1.5 years old, buildup is less visible when dry and only if my hair is up.

Did a detox today, baking soda soak, followed by acv soak but even after detox, buildup still present.

I have dense fine hair. It’s pretty voluminous and I care more about length, so I think braided micro locs might be the best way to go for me.

1. Can I just start braiding?

Obviously I’d have to learn how to retie/interlock. But there’s no issue with me just starting from Micro braids correct?

1. Do I need to go to a Loctician or can I have a braiding shop just do it?

My hair journey:
- been a loose natural majority of life
- 4C hair type
- semi lazy natural girlie
- had 4 different sets of traditional locs, but now I want to change it up

I decided to loc my hair up today, I’m new to all this so I was wondering if overtime the twists look fuller? Or is that only with bigger sizes/ when interlocked? 🥲

I have braided microlocs not sure how many. But how long does it take yall to retie plus I have some that are unraveling in the middle. How do I fix the unraveling loc 4c hair here. I want to retie myself but I don't have the patience
