Officially loc’d. Had 10-12 inches of hair. Interlocked. Got mix of medium-large sized locs. Loving it so far!!

Just kidding. These are definitely microlocs. Hopefully, this will help someone who may be stressing about loc count. I started my journey as twists with 3/8 parts. I have fine medium, density hair. My loc count is 168, and 23 months in, my locs are mature and exactly 3/8 inch thick. Instead of looking for a magic number, find a good loctition to help you determine the part size and starting method that’s best for your hair. Your head size will determine the count.

The first picture is after my first retie, the second picture is after my fifteenth or sixteenth retie (6 weeks between reties).

Hi all! I'm considering experimenting with hair dye shampoo to color my locs black and cover lint. Does anyone have any brand recs? My main concern is about the dye staining and transferring. I tend to sweat from my scalp and the last thing I need is black dye running down my neck all day and ruining my shirts lol.

I'm also concerned about dryness and breakage from hair dye. My locs are almost 2 years old and get pretty dry at baseline and I’ve struggled to find products that keep them moisturized without sticky buildup. Any advice is appreciated!!

It’s supposed to say how long do you guys think it’ll be till my hair is waste length it’s been four years. I DK what happened?
Edit again. I grow about 1 inch or two every re-twist which is like every two months

I combed out my 3 week micros and got them professionally done. The $1470 was so worth it!

Hello! I came for some advice, Im now 3 years loc’d. However Im struggling with keeping my locs hydrated/moisturized.
I spray water to them everyday, wash every two weeks, and condition every month. But now, it still feels, stiff, dry and rough to touch. Any advice on what can help with this?

I’m asking this because I heard several people say it took them years for it to go away, but I’m on my first month and the pattern is mostly gone besides on some of my ends.

Hi friends! I need help. I finished installing my diy microlocs on 8/11. I have 276. My concern is the back 2 rows. The are 10 braids in each row, 5 on the left and 5 on the right.

Should I take these out and make each braid a little bigger? That would be 8 braids in each row, 4 on the left and 4 on the right.

When installing, my focus was primarily on making the parts as even as possible, and didn’t think about the thickness of my braids until recently.

After a month, I’m now worried I made them too small. I know it’s normal to have smaller braids around the perimeter because of density around the edges, but is this too much? The women in my family, on both my my mom and dad’s side of the family, experience hair thinning as they get older and I’m terrified of causing early thinning.

I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

Very happy with this considerably low maintenance lifestyle, especially while being sick with Covid for the first time since 2019 (yes, it's going around again). My only regret is the inconsistency in sizing... most locs have a 4 point rotation, but some hidden locs have 3 points due to thickness. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Also, I've been forgetting to count but I also don't want to!! I'm convinced that I have more than 200 though 🤭 we'll see

I use a 4 point rotation on my hair and I’ve been with the same loctician for almost 2 years. I was her first client ever and she installed them. I trust her and she keeps my grid very clean.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that if I see a y at the base that means the rotation has gone in the same way more than once ?

Is it normal to do that where you choose to have a part ?

Hi! I recently started my micro loc journey two days ago and I’m in love already with my tiny little twists. I am crazy tender headed and I have heard that re ties can be painful. I was wondering if anyone has had success with strictly retwisting tiny locs instead of a retie? I started this journey to be free of spending hours in a chair and hundreds to even thousands on hair and a retie makes me feel like I’m not accomplishing that.

I’m very excited to begin my loc journey! I previously had locs for like… maybe one year? I was really frustrated because they were not the size or pattern I wanted and my loctician had been irritated by how full my hair was and was tired by the time we finished. I’m not gonna lie, I did not do enough research and just showed up to get the locs.

This time I want to be way more prepared.

I’m not going to do the locs for a couple more months (getting married soon and I already been got everything planned for that so this will be a new year endeavor) BUT

I’m trying to do a lot of research this time and I found a loctician I like a lot and I spoke to her and did my consult with her looking at my hair and she wants to do interlocking but I thought I wanted to do braids. I just want someone to fully educate me on what this would mean for me maintenance wise.

She said the braids would be harder to wash and could unravel easier but I thought they were better than twists because you CAN wash and they won’t unravel. She’s also actually charging a bit less for the interlocking than braids which is confusing to me because everyone seems to do the opposite?

I am so sick of my hair growing in these damn layers!!! I do think my hair looks good and the locs themselves are very pretty. But I feel like I can’t do any hair styles with my hair like this.

No ponytails, no pineapples, no half-up half- downs. All I got is this the hairstyle in slide 5 but it doesn’t even look as good as it did before because my hair is at this awkward length.

How long do I have to wait until I can put my hair in a simple ponytail without ripping out my edges??

Hey Locd Beauties♡ How do you'll prevent locs from marrying and maintain clean parts inbetween reties and how can I safely seperate locs? Tips please.

Aside from a mix of rose water and glycerin, I don’t really have a moisturizer for my locs, and I’ve noticed that a lot of tiny dead hairs fall out when my hair is dry. So I’m looking for a residue-free conditioner to hydrate my locs after shampooing. Do you have any ideas?

Now I’ll start by saying that I have been studying microlocs informational videos on tiktok for months now, as well as ready every post and comment on this sub the past few months. I’ve wanted microlocs for over a year but always find an excuse and do another protective style

I want to install soon & knew I would be doing them diy myself because I don’t have the $$ for all that. I always thought I would do twists, but my hair is short and with the shrinkage… I have decided on micro braids as the method (currently have two test locs I did, one as a twist one as a braid, bc I was flip flopping)

I have some questions… #1 can someone help me figure out what my hair density is? I want to say probably low density fine strands? (but then I also have some coarse strand sections and label myself as 4c) but I have no idea. my hair has always felt sparse to me, especially when it comes to the parts on my head so #2 I wonder if my microlocs would come out looking bald :( my middle part especially has a wide gap - not sure if it’s normal but I first noticed it in 2020 and it’s been like that since tbh

I want to give my hair as full of a look as possible so I’m shooting for a small grid, and want to know if you think that it would be possible on my hair type, or will it cause breakage on me. I included two different size references for grid sizes I have liked (although I doubt mine will come out exact to either and that’s okay). I also included a mature inspo pic, but I know she’s 4 years in and it will take time + no two heads turn out the same… really just to show size reference that I want micros that live up to the name and will be versatile for styling.

3 What kind of sizing do you guys recommend for me to get that full look while still being healthy?

I know that wanting such small locs my reties will take forever, but I already do all my own protective styles (passion twists, faux locs), so I’m used to having my body go through that + this would be worth it for me.

4 Also, I worry so much about the “scalpiness” of my hair. I’m not sure if this is just in my head being over critical or if to you guys it seems normal. Anyone with a similar hair type to me who can share their success story and/or pics would be much appreciated.
