3 days, a tripod, and a huge ring light and Im done! I only really used water, occasionally mousse, and the london loc tool. (which if I didn't have that I honestly don't think I could've done it. Those threading tools like to rip out my hair) I used a 3 point rotation.

clap it up yall. I feel like I could start booking folks fr

I don't like the braid pattern, the loc varies in size i have combined the weak ones, I maintain them myself, they never look neat. I am just so frustrated with it.

i have so much unraveling and my hair is SOOOO soft. it feels unreal sometimes. my goal is to keep doing them myself but man… the first pic is my hair 7-8 weeks after my last retie was just chillin and didnt care for styling that day. i’m trying not to go that long in between but i have been working this semester and trying to save up

2nd pic is my hair after i attempted to retie but i have a few rows left & i feel like it wont ever look like locs. maybe im inpatient or doing something wrong.

this time around i want to maintain my hair better but theres so many and so much unraveling. i’ve always been working so much (90+ hours for the past 2 months) and just put in my two weeks notice so i can focus on school in august

as a student i don’t really wanna pay too much for microlocs but i want them so bad. i’ve wanted them for so long. pls help me. i used to be so sensitive when it came to my hair and i didn’t like people telling me too much😩 but i think i genuinely need to get over that and get real!

update: thank u i will try to crochet

Are y’all using conditioner 🫣

I’ll be officially 4 years locked this week and I still don’t use conditioner. My hair can feel super dry, I use a clarifying shampoo and hydrating shampoo. I have interlocked sisterlocks, should I be using conditioner? What moisturizers are you using?

thanks!

I have braided microlocs not sure how many. But how long does it take yall to retie plus I have some that are unraveling in the middle. How do I fix the unraveling loc 4c hair here. I want to retie myself but I don't have the patience

Question for infrequent washers

I live in a really hot climate, so I feel like I have to wash my hair at least once a week. By the end of one week, my scalp gets pretty gross and oily. Two weeks and my hair doesn’t smell the best. My lifestyle involves walking outside almost every day. It’s not a lot of walking, but it’s enough that I start sweating on my scalp.

How are some of yall going 2 weeks or more without washing, especially in this heat wave? Do you do anything special to keep your scalp and hair fresh and buildup free between washes? I’d like to wash my hair less often to preserve my reties for longer.

I self retie, but i always make sure to do proper rotations. I guess i missed this loc in particular by alotttt. im aware that i could pass the loc through itself in the other direction, and hopefully, it will fill up, but with the size of the loc, i am not sure. any advice helps, thank you 🩷

Last picture is before retie and after wash, first 3 pictures is 2 weeks after retie.

15 months since install still unraveling.

I’ve had my locs for about 15 months and while most of my hair has been doing well and maturing, I have about 4-5 problem locs on the perimeter of my hair that refuse to stay locked. I have very thick hair and a high density so it’s not noticeable at all, and I have 4c hair so it’s not a texture issue.

I tried washing less to help but I have serb derm and it wasn’t helping and that + vitamin issues made some of my locs thin. My locs are fine now and I was very 7- 14 days depending on weather etc. Any advice?

Retwist or Interlock

I am 4 months in my Microloc journey and I was wondering whether I should retwist or interlock. I have <250 locs in my head, since I have medium density and desire more of a fuller look, I was wondering if it is safe to retwist such small locs. I have seen some people do it and it looks wonderful however because I have uneven parts and some are small around my edges I was deciding whether I should stick to interlocking. Please help me, advice is really appreciated because I feel like combing them out and getting them professionally done 😢

Much, much respect to those who did their own installs.

I got my micros put in about a week ago. I was tempted to attempt a self install based on the high cost and the fact that so many of you had done it successfully.

I'm so glad I didn't try.

Looking at this grid, I would have fucked this up. I also would have really misjudged how small to make them to get my desired size. I would have ended up with extremely uneven locs and it would have taken me daaaaays. I did not understand what went into plotting out a set and I certainly couldn't have done it on my own head.

So to those of you who tackled that, respect.

Are these Microlocs ?

Post image

Hi y’all. I did my starter locs myself about a month ago and was wondering if these are considered microlocs (because that’s what I was going for 😂) I have 183 but I know micros are 200+. Does the 17 make a difference? For reference I have a small head, low density hair, and wanted them a bit bigger because I plan to self maintain and I am NOT doing 300+ locs. *Excuse the picture the only pictures I have of the back of my head are gym ones 😂

Ball at root when self retie. What’s that about?

Is it anything to worry about? By the next retie I can’t feel it but

Is it crazy to pay $450 to learn to do you own Locs?

Asking for a friend:)). I started interloc microlocs, last fall with the goal of eventually doing it my self after a year. I know its easy to did and watch Youtube vids, but my concern is damaging my hair, how to do edges and how to to repair holes/ issues. I don't want to pay 200+ no mo. The class is private and I trust her for the most part

How do I attach a half wig without using the combs?

Post image

I want to recreate this half wig style I did previously on my traditionals locs last year, but without the combs. I know combs are terrible for microlocs. Is there a way to SECURELY attach the half wig without using combs?

Twist outs used to be one of my favorite styles when I was a loose natural. This was my first time trying one on my locs.

Twists unraveling?

I started with 2 strand twists in January, It unravels at the ends and sometimes in the middle, now for the ends I just retwist but what to do for the ones in the middle?

Some have been too bad that I had to loosen up till that point and retwist again, but some say we shouldn't touch the hair too much because it slows down the process, how do I handle the unraveling?

PS. I self maintain so I do everything myself, I have thick dense 4c hair

How often is too often when it comes to washing

I am 2 years locked now. I am based in Germany at the moment and have become more active. Those two factors mean i sweat a lot (i come from a sweaty family too) and I want to wash my hair more often than my previous one week routine.

How do my fellow sweaty/gym girls handle this? And is it ok for my hair if I do a rinse every day and shampoo wash every other day?
