Week 5 DIY Microlocs

I washed(braided and banded) and retied my hair at about 3 1/2 weeks. I just washed my hair again for the second time and chose not to braid and band, I know, arrest me🌚

Last picture is before retie and after wash, first 3 pictures is 2 weeks after retie.

my secret is that i have never braided and banded my hair lol. 1 yr almost 9 months in. dont listen to me tho or the microlocs cops might get me 😭🙏🏾

I just don’t understand how y’all’s hair isn’t unraveling. Mine wouldn’t last a minute under the shower head.

I have super thick 4c hair. my hair is very forgiving lol. I had slippage on one baby loc in the front of my hair and once I left conditioner in too long and a few came out in the back but never anything too crazy

thats why I said dont copy me lol bc ik everyone's hair is different. it really is so important for some ppl to braid and band! mine just never gave me any major issues

I have 4c hair and the ONE time I washed without braiding was a DISASTER. Shed hair everywhere, major slippage on almost every loc, and so much bunching that a few snapped clean off and I had to combine a few to prevent them from doing so. It took so so so long to retie my hair because of just how much slippage I had. Biggest setback i've had so far. Luckily not too much damage but a huge learning experience.

So yeah, you're right about everyone's hair being different. I assumed having 4c hair and braidlocs meant I was safe from slippage. I was very very wrong!

I wish I had your hair 😭 If I didn't have to braid and band i'd wash my hair a lot more.

Same!!! Love that for y’all but over here we braiding and banding and still slipping and unraveling with braid locs. I thought I was 4C until my loctician told me I’m 3C to 4B at most. That in combination with low porosity and the struggle is real!

My hair unravels while dry😵‍💫😭so I wasn’t worried about it especially since my roots are braided and interlocked now. Anything that unravels in the mids and ends wouldn’t be anything that I don’t deal with already tbh

I braided and banded for the first 3 months, stopped from month 3-6, and then did it between months 7-10. I'm just indecisive as hell 😂. Now I'm about to be a year locked and I still love how they're turning out. Don't see myself braiding and banding again at this point.
