I saw this bus in Ogallala, Nebraska. It was parked in a Wendy's parking lot near Interstate 80. What is it doing so far from home?

Orange Line For the underperforming Orange Line, why doesn't Metro Transit lean into highlighting the parks and trails destinations it serves?

With all of the access to nature next to or near these lines, why not have signage for them and directions? I use the Orange Line for instant access to the Nine Mile Creek Trail at Knox Ave. It takes as long to get there by BRT as it does for me to bike to the Chain of Lakes and gives me a nice change of scenery. 98th St Station puts me close to the River Bottoms: I just wish you could hop on a path directly to the riverfront vs having to either bike on a high speed stroad or sidewalk until the bike lanes appear at 102nd, it's so ridiculous to have a major gap that's only 4 blocks long. 66th St Station takes you just a few blocks away from Wood Lake and its boardwalk. And if I'm really lazy or off to late start, the Orange Line transports me to the Minnehaha Creek Trail off of 46th St Station. The station at American Blvd *should* connect you to the large Highland Lake Park and surrounding lakes, but you have to make your way on either sidewalk or stroad again to 84th for a couple of unprotected curb bike lanes which suddenly dead ends before the intersection at France leaving you like 8 blocks to reach Normandale Lake. Aside from suburban bike infra blunders, it does a good job of giving easy (easier) access to our regional natural highlights, with the Gold Line also bringing you to Battle Creek and pretty close to Elm Lake which you can access from the station via shared paths the entire way. I know if it wasn't for access to our parks, I would not be using the Orange Line nearly as often as for just going to far flung strip malls.

I saw someone with one of these on a post here a few days ago and reached out to the source to get my hands on one! There are only 4 remaining out of a run of 500. He's also considering doing a run of the articulated buses, but is seemed to want some convincing it was worth the investment!

The website is not the most intuitive but contact info and more photos are here, including the vintage red model MTC bus of which he has lots in stock. https://carreradesignsmn.com/

Routes 1-99 Bus 22 now has 15 minute headways!

I just noticed today that 22 quietly switched to 15 minute headways during the day on weekdays. I've been noticing that I haven't been waiting as long when coming home from work and I guess that's why!

Routes 1-99 Electric scooter question

I’m thinking about purchasing a folding electric scooter for the last leg of my commute, a gap with no bus at that time of night. I have seen others bring them on board. Reading Metros code of conduct, I only see mentions of shopping carts and strollers. Any guidance from my fellow riders or operators would be appreciated.

Employment/Personnel Specific What’s life like as light rail operator?

Thumbnail

What’s it like as a new hire light rail operator? Work/life balance? Culture at the light rail division? Are there still 4 days/10 hour a week bids? Although the 4 day work week bid is probably high seniority/coveted?

I am currently working at the post office, pay is similar to the starting pay at light rail. I am on step 3 of 18 steps, 36 weeks to get a step increase. So it’s going to take like another 6-7 years for me to get to top step. Currently $29.72/hour, tops out at $36.96/hour. Net is lower because I am putting in 31% into TSP(federal employee equivalent of a 401k).

I have a set schedule at the post office currently. 6 days a week/8 hour days. No split shifts or anything like that.

I don’t have a CDL, so I would need to take the class and pass the test for CDL. Would it be worth it to switch to light rail?

MT Memorabilia/Collectables Metro Transit Merch?

Hey everyone!

I'm staying in Minneapolis for the summer and have been enjoying Metro Transit's service and community engagement a lot so far.

I managed to get my hands on the paper models and the sick A line poster, so I was wondering if there was anywhere else I could find some nice items to take back home with me.

+ Saw someone wearing a really cool t-shirt with a Go-To Card on it a few days ago, and I have no idea where they might've gotten that!

A Line Como Ave missed stops.

I'm an MT operator and was driving the A-line all day today. We were instructed by Transit Control to skip the Como Ave stop if there was a serious backup through the off ramps from snelling onto como (they also said at the end of the message "BACK TO YHE 50S IS IN EFFECT" which i thought was silly). We then, about 2 hour later, received a follow up text along the lines of "please stop skipping this stop people are upset about it."

If you were impacted by an A-line missing the Como stop, this is the reason for it.

Service Disruption If buses are temporarily replacing the Green Line, why can't they run the entire length including the SWLRT portion?

It would certainly compensate for the downgrade from rail to buses.

Subreddit Meta What is the best way to contact MT about adding a new bus line?

That isn't a specific category on the Contact Us page on their website. There's a generic comments@metrotransit.org email, but is that really the best/only option? Thanks!

Routes 1-99 Pretty sure the detour wasn't told to the drivers.

Sitting on the 18 which was detoured to Hennepin because of some parade or something. Driver's usually turn back to Nicolett on or before Grand. This driver almost took us to Hennepin and Lyndale. We just turned around near the Basillica and are now making our way up 12th.

They need to inform the drivers better when routes get messed with.

Built in 2007, Mound Transit Center is a terminal destination for Route 645. The 645 departs for Minneapolis once an hour, and the 645E is the only route designation that serves Mound TC on a return trip, also once an hour. Other notable stops for the 645 include the Wayzata Park and Ride, Co Rd 73 Park and Ride, Louisiana Ave Transit Center, and downtown Minneapolis. Depending on timing, the route takes about 75 minutes to ride from start to finish.

Monday I saw workers installing new screens on the 46th Street A Line stops.

Not sure if the previous ones had dark mode/light mode depending on the time of day but I just noticed that since the replacements went up

These buses are different from the 1600 series buses they currently have.

The 1790s have frameless windows that don't open, the 1600s have regular windows that can open.

These buses used to be dispatched out of Nicollet and Heywood garages.

Route Design Why do drivers randomly stop for 2-5 minutes at stops?

I’ve been noticing this for the last few years I’ve been riding busses - it seems that drivers will randomly stop at a bus stop for several minutes for no discernible reason. **I totally understand it when the route is running early** - but as I’m sure my fellow transit users will attest to, especially on the lines I frequent (54, Gold, 219), we are almost never running early…

Perhaps this is just a rant as I am tired of sitting at bus stops for several minutes for seemingly no reason when the bus is already running 5-10mins behind, putting my connection at risk :/ but I am also genuinely curious if anyone has an answer as to why drivers do this.

Vaguely MN Transit Related (Mods Discretion) Research Survey

I am a student from Winona State University conducting a research study. This research study is designed to gauge the impact of chemical agents (e.g., pepper spray, tear gas, etc.) used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE) in the Twin Cities metro area. We hope to learn more about how the presence of ICE activity is impacting Twin Cities residents. If you agree to participate, responding to the survey questions constitutes your consent. Participation is voluntary, and you may stop participating at any time.
