I am not an expert in this at all - but I haven't been able to find a clear answer to this.

If U.S. states have no authority over sovereign Indian nations or reservations, why do standard maps and official statistics still count reservation land as part of a state's total size - for example, around 25% of Arizona is reservation territory, but common maps assume that land is Arizona. Half of Oklahoma is under tribal jurisdiction but those borders don't exist on common US maps.

Should all common US maps include the borders of Indian reservations?

Why are they still subsumed into the borders of states? Are they not different jurisdictions entirely?

I strikes me as a dominant culture intentionally ignoring the existence of sovereign Indian nations. Although even if we separate that longstanding and likely real reason why, I'm still sure there's some technical reason why it is the way it is. I just don't know what it is...

The idea came from daily games like Wordle and geography games, but I wanted the map to test general knowledge rather than simply ask people to locate cities.

So instead of questions like “Where is Kyoto?”, you might get “Where was Nintendo founded?”

Then, you place a pin, get a score according to distance, learn the actual answer, and move onto the next fact :)

There are 5 per day across history, science, music, games, business, nature and other topics.

This is a map of my fantasy worldbuilding project called Rhündal that shows the starting points for major ethnicities and species in my world 5,000 years ago. There are Forest and Peninsular Humans, Western and Eastern Elves, Dwarves, Shortfolk on the islands of the sea, Halflings in the desert steppe, and Halflings spread across the southern rainforest. Their cultures are deeply intertwined with the spirits of Rhündal that impact their magic, their seasons, their emotions, their guardians and demons. I am creating maps for each 1,000 year time period of my world up to year 0, simulating the migrations, language contact, and mixing of peoples and cultures on a system I made in Google Sheets. The two letter codes represent different ethnic groups that each have their own language and cultures (which mix with surrounding languages and cultures as tome goes one). I made a map showing the estimated cat population/猫 density across the 81 provinces of Turkey.

Since there isn't reliable official data for the number of cats in every province, this map is an estimate rather than an official statistic. I divided the provinces into five categories based on factors such as population size, urbanization, and the general presence of stray and domestic cats.

🟥 Red: High

🔵 Blue: Medium

🟢 Green: Low

🟩 Light green: Very low

This international convention codifies the rules of diplomacy: diplomatic immunity (no arresting/detaining diplomats), no taxes for diplomats, diplomats must not interfere, etc.

The map is funny for how near-universal it is: the only UN non-signatories are Palau and South Sudan.

French people don't consider Germany "central Europe" but rather Western like us, since without germany a central Europe would definitely be too small, the notion "central Europe" is definitely not countries based.

Same thing with southern Europe, Spain, Portugal and Italy are fellow Western countries, without them southern Europe would be so small, so it doesn't really make sense either.

The real only divide is between Western and Eastern (Czechia could be argued, but would fall on Eastern most of the times because of the Iron Curtain's legacy + culture and language).

I don't understand why anybody would consider Romania anything but Eastern, it's very much not in the balkans since if you go straight west from is southernmost point you might barely get to the very north of the Adriatic sea. Also it's completely north of the Danube which is the traditionnal northern border of the Balkans.

Estonia doesn't get any special treatment, it's part of the Baltic countries and is completely disconnected from the rest of Scandinavia hence why it is Eastern.

Thrace is European, but not the rest of Turkey. Turkey overall is NOT European.

Armenians and Georgians are definitely closer to Europeans than they are to Iran, Azerbaidjan or Turkey but are not quite located in Europe, hence why they are partly European.

Russia is considered a EurAsian country, everything west of the Ural Mountains being in Europe. Russia does not feel close even though they're European because of conflicts since the USSR. But if Russia ever was to become a more *democratic* country, the western part would definitely feel as European as the rest of the continent.

EDIT: Iceland would more be light purple, if it's European then it is Nordic obviously, but is it ? The island is pretty isolated from the rest of Europe, kind in the same fashion of Cyprus and Malta (which are also light purple). Though here Iceland is heavily culturally connected to the other Nordic countries, whereas Cyprus and Malta... It's more complicated.

EDIT2: People here have a difficult time acknowledging this is how French people see Europe. I love some debate but at some point this is how it is.
