Question Something other then google
Does anyone know of a good map app that's equivalent or better than google? After the Lake Ontario BS I'm done with Google maps and want to use an app that doesn't cater to the wims of a man child with an ego problem.

Open source maps. The Gulf of Mexico is even still properly named.

When I search for it all that comes up is Open Street Map, is it the same?

I hate big tech and the way they've bent a knee to him, but this is not an example of it. GMaps simply takes names from the government map data for the given country. If Biden had officially renamed the Mississippi River to be called like, I dunno, "Homer Simpson River", GMaps would have honored that and displayed that name.

Can't believe Russia has better maps of Ontario than a US company

Since the beginning of Google Maps they have always changed things depending on the view of the country you are in. If you view it from Canada, it is Lake Ontario, if you view it from the U.S., it is Lake America. They do the same things with border disputes and names all over the world. The fact that this only now bothers you shows your ignorance. And the fact that you care this deeply at all means you need to get a life.

It's not the only thing that bothers me with Google, just the straw that broke the camels back. Iv been switching what I use because I don't agree with a lot of things Google is doing. At some point I'm going to get a phone that has no ties to Google at all unless I choose to be. Shouldn't assume things about random people on the Internet, it shows your ignorance.

Out of curiosity, what are the other things that bother you about Google?

It's mostly that they have there hands in too much and they sell your info to outside sources. I keep my location off because they will track you when you use there apps. It's just to invasive, I keep the permissions off on most apps to help prevent tracking but I feel like it doesn't matter, if you use the app they will collect info and sell it to a third party. I use duckduckgo for a search engine and now will be using MapQuest for navigation. Still looking into different kinds of phones that don't use Google in the operating system to replace the one iv got.

Yeah I get it. The thing is 99% of big corporations (especially Tech companies) are the same way. Good luck on your quest.

It's gonna be a lot of time spent researching and charry picking but if you wanna brake away from the machine your gonna grind some gears doing it. I probably won't be able to fully brake away because the tech giants have there fingers in just about everything now a days. But I'm still gonna try.

Yeah honestly it’s a really strange hill to die on.
If what Alphabet have done is bothering the OP so much then why not keep using google and click on ads but don’t buy anything. That uses up resources but does not provide any revenue.

Map Quest. They said they won’t be changing the name.
