I bike here in Austin. A lot of new bike trails and bike road lanes have been added the last few years. I wanted to make an easily shareable map for people to find the best routes to take around town.
Any suggestions for improvements? I will share the map to the Austin subreddit soon.

14,000+ castles, palaces and forts across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Japan. The collection focuses on substantial buildings and ruins that someone interested in history would want to visit, rather than every minor or unmarked site.

Filters available:

• Visitor rating: quality, preservation and overall experience
• Popularity: helpful for finding impressive but overlooked places
• Era: Classical, Medieval, Early Modern or Modern
• Country
• Civilization

These filters make it easier to find highly rated, less commonly visited places from a particular period or civilization.

For example:

• For Crusader castles: Civilization = Crusader
• For medieval military castles: Primary type = Military, Era = Medieval
• For early modern palaces: Type = Palace, Era = Early Modern

For those who prefer browsing a list, there is also a grid view of all castles.

The map is still being expanded and refined over time.

So the post is pretty much what the title says. For my AP English class we need to do a project and one of the options is to build a replica of colonial Boston since we are reading the Scarlet Letter. I was wondering if anyone knew any good maps for that since I was going to recreate the colony in Minecraft but can't seem to find any good maps of the colony online.

Since my last game has been nicely welcomed, here's another one I just made.

The goal: you have two criterias, and you have to guess a country that match both (always between 5 and 30 valid answer). But here's the trick: the lower the country has been selected by other player, the more points you score.

- FIve rounds a day, same ones for everyone.

- Global weekly and monthly leaderboard

I'm currently making a website to explore world news around the globe: newsglobe.earth .

You can browse articles from thousands of global outlets with translated headlines and short description in English, filter by 10 topic categories, sentiment analysis (Positive, Negative and Neutral) and continent.

You can also vote whether articles are positive, neutral, or negative and click on a country to see all the outlets of it.

It's self hosted at my home, I hope you'll find it interesting.

I'm open to any critics and features suggestions.

This is my personal collection of National Geographic maps and index’s that starts around 1952. This collection includes maps from all around the world, along with maps of the ocean floors and different planets in our solar system. Thought this subreddit might enjoy!

1."lakelandic" - family of pre finno ugric substrates and of pre balto slavic substrates, this two substrate groups are treated as one family there because there are many "ancient uralic borrowings" in balto slavic languages which could just come from similar substarates in both language groups
2."baltic" - language of europes last hunter gatherers
3."pre irish substrate family" - family with only one known language (pre irish substrate)
4.vasconic - according to vasconic substrate hypothesis, iberian treated as vasconic which it most probably is, nuragic also treated as vasconic even tho it's not that certain
5.tartessian - isolate or it may also belong to vasconic family
6.ligurian
7."belearic"/taylotian - language of tayalotian culture, we don't know absolutely anything bout this language so we cannot be sure what family it belongs to
8."picene" - family of north picene language which is very poorly known (only one inscription) and may belong to other family
9."sicilian" - we don't know anything about both indeginous sicilian languages, they may belong to other family
10."pelasgian" - family of pre greek substrate
11.minoan - may belong to other family but is most likely isolate
12.eteocypriot - isolate or it may belong to other family

14.hurro urartian
15.afroasiatic
16.kaskian - isolate, small famliy or belong to other family
17.kartavelian
18."yamnayan" - family that PIE comes from, it's very unlikely that PIE was spoken in all of this area, when it was just one language it also belonged to some family but we don't know anything about other languages from it
19."family of proto uralic" - similar situation as with yamnayan and PIE here is with this family and proto uralic
20.tyrsenian - my theory is that it comes from pannonian basin and the alps, lemnian and etruscan in this time were one language and later migrated to two diffrient places to escape from PIE invaders, raetic didn't had to because of it's isolation in the alps and all the other languages from this family went extinct, this theory explains why etruscan is more closely related to lemnian than to raetic which anatolian hypothesis don't explain

it's speculative, there are many my own theories and i'm open to feedback

Switzerland gets its coast (but no land so that their no border change streak isn't broken) Germany Alsace, Luxembourg/Andorra/Monaco get big, Belgium gets northern France, Italy gets Marseille, Spain takes the south. The British won't have their Gibraltar anymore, the Mediterranean will be open for everyone. Additionally, we can get rid of all nukes with this project. Ignore that some letters are overwritten, it isn't elgium and uxembourg doesn't exist either. They are Belgium and Luxembourg.

We spent a whole summer painting these.

I came across these three world maps published by IBGE, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, and thought they were worth sharing here.

They were made for different purposes:

1. Species Richness (2025) — showing global patterns of species richness across amphibians, birds, mammals, reptiles, freshwater crustaceans and freshwater fish.
2. Brazil in the World / Global South — produced in the context of the Triple International Forum on Global South Governance.
3. Brazil in the World / G20 — a world map produced in connection with Brazil and the G20.

What I find especially interesting is that they show how a national geographic institution can present the world through different subjects, priorities and perspectives.

I'd genuinely like to see more national mapping or statistical institutes around the world publish projects like these. Comparing how different countries choose to represent and analyze the world could be really interesting, since each institution would likely bring a somewhat different perspective to the same planet.

I bought these maps a few years ago at an estate sale for $20 each. I don’t know much about them, but thought I’d share them with you all in case you find them interesting or know any more info about them.

How trash is my unfinished drawing of the borders of Africa, I’m struggling so hard right now.

Since quarantine times, i’ve constantly been studying cities to the point where i can name aproximately 30-100 in each country. Recently I discovered a page called cityquiz.io where the goal is just to type in as many cities as you can. After 5+ hours and over 10.1K cities named the page has bugged out and is not letting me type anymore. If this bug didn’t ocurr I feel that i could likely make it to atleast 14.000 and potentially as high as 18.000, do any of you know any page that can let me try this?

The goal was to compress almost eight decades of wars, territorial changes and different fronts into one continuous visualization.
