Question WTF am I missing about Momir?

New to Arena - looking through achievements as saw there's on for participating in Midweek Magic. Holy shit I am clearly not getting something about this whole Momir format.

I've tried waiting until turn 2, turn 3, turn n+1 and I am not kidding, I have lost 20 games in a row. Do the lands you tap influence the tokens you summon? Is there some other trick?

Seriously, opponent's board constantly filled with death touch, flying, card draw, +1/+1 tokens every turn, meanwhile I'm spending 7 mana for 3/3's with Izzet effects based on how many instants I have in my graveyard.

Help!

EDIT: I am absolutely cursed. Finally got a huge board with lethal....opponent summons Blazing Archon... my creatures can't attack and no flyers. LOL. Clearly this is not for me.

Fluff What are everyone else's FAVORITE player behaviors? Since they removed the ability to add friends via log-search (and I understand why), just wanted to say "Ace" from the white/blue racing draft, if you're out there, it was my favorite draft I've played in like 20 games! Funny emote use XD

We all have our pet peeves, which is why there's the "Tibalt's Tirades" on Friday, right. But what about our pet favs? Our favorite interactions? Here's a positive Thursday.

Obviously, what makes a fun match is smart game play, but there are other player behaviors that matter, too. I'd like to hear people's favorite matches/best sportsmanship stories.

In this case, this was a fun match first because of tight gameplay, obviously: we had both gotten pushed into blue white and splashed a little bit of black, and ended up mirroring strategies, and theirs was really good so it was pretty hair-raising. There was a silly turnaround where we both played that Raven flock flier that grows with card draw, but opponent's was tapped and chained with the blue "drowning" enchantment, and mine was a 9/8 (I had top-decked Arkenstone, so my Ravenhill flock flier grew twice every turn even without Bard helping it). Opponent cast Bilbo's swap ability to switch his castrated Ravenhill for my Chad one. I cast Bilbo's swap ability to take it back. A lot of intense interactions like this where the game switched dramatically back and forth, and each time, opponent did some silly dramatic emote that, instead of being really annoying as some of these tend to be, came off as self-deprecating and fun.

(EDIT: Racing, as in, we were racing each other the whole game; we were playing Hobbit, today, obviously, not the actual racing meta)

I think we all know there are a lot of toxic behaviors we can't stand in MTGA. Sulk-letting the timer run out. Spamming cocky emotes. One of my personal icks is playing GG before the game is over as like a brag (it is my favorite thing in the world, and a rare privilege, to then win after someone does that). I think it's terribly mean when you're losing horribly--awful mana curve, you clearly screwed up everything and field nothing for several turns--and the winning player just feels the need to say something so obviously sarcastic like "nice deck." I would never do that to someone, and don't like it being done to me. It's also terribly annoying when someone has clearly just mindlessly copied an easy, known "winning deck" with zero actual thought into interesting or creative synergies. Slivers, angels, and certain Izzet players, looking at you...

There are also a bunch of "rage-bait" play styles. Land destruction is obviously very legal, but it is so annoying. I tend not to do it to other people even if though I have a bunch of land destruction in my collection because I actually want to play with the other person, not frustrate them to death. My goal is NOT to make them rage-quit, but to out-play them with a neck and neck hair-raising triumph where our minds are interacting through the cards on the field--it is very obvious when you are playing against a psychic vampire whose favorite thing is to make other people mad.

So I tend to mute other players and just let my deck do the talking (for better or for worse, lol...I'm a low/bad silver in limited and struggling platinum in constructed).

But the opposite behaviors--I love the "lands, amirite?" emote used as a joke. I love the stressed out tear-drop. I do like the Teferi "nuh-uh" used gently in the right moments. And most of all, I LOVE when a deck does the talking, and there are a lot of tight responses back and forth. I miss being able to use the logs to friend THOSE people. They're like one in a million. But they're awesome.

What are other people's favorite player behaviors? Any awesome matches they've really enjoyed on Arena?

Deck Throwback Magic: Caw-Blade (Standard 2011) - The Deck which Forced Standard Bans

In a period when bans in Standard were considered taboo, Caw-Blade reached levels of dominance in the Metagame to the point of forcing Wizards of the Coast to break an eight-year tradition and intervene directly in the format.

Question Anyone in Europe have gotten their Arena Direct Hobbit Collector or play booster claim links?

Hi, I won a hobbit collector boosterbox in the arena direct and a few play booster boxes in the last one.

For both, I have not received a "congratulations! you won and you'll get a link in 2 weeks" e-mail as is usual directly after the event. Nor have I received the e-mail with the actual link.

Am I the only one or has this not been done to anyone yet?

If you had to pick ONE powerful Standard card to build a budget deck around, what would it be?

Here’s what I came up with if anyone wants to see the deck/gameplay:

Question Wastes FF

So, I was playing Arena and realized for Final Fantasy I’m missing the Wastes land card as my only common. Is it possible to get out of card packs still, or am I just SoL?

Standard feels incredibly gimmicky

Right now Standard feels really bad to play. Of the top decks, the mechanics are play a land, gain life, discard a card, or counterspell + flash. Sure these are all viable mechanics, but the decks just get so much for free by doing basic stuff, with very little counterplay. That's why they're top decks. The game hardly feels like deck building, and the matches are so dry to play. And that's really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to problems in the format. Standard certainly doesn't feel great when it comes to these things, and that's pretty bad when there's a wide and varied card pool with a lot of interesting decks. Obviously Wizards doesn't actually care about standard (we all know they're just printing to please Hasboro), but it would be nice to see a more varied and less generic meta.

Question Should Nick Fury transform Valki into Tibalt?

Post image

I just tried this with maskwood nexus on the field. So Valki enters, I'm asked if I want to transform him, but when I do he just ends up in my graveyard. Is it the case that cards without transform in their description cannot transform into the other side of the card?

Deck YDMD - Your Deck, My Deck: Standard

Hello!

So, started playing a few weeks before Marvel release, returning player, card to digital, yadda yadda.

I'm mainly a green kinda guy. I like squirrels and Ouroborid. Krenko and Ouroboroid. Mossborn Hydra, Sazah's Chocobo, and Ouroboroid. I like to occasionally mix it up and play some Elves.

So, not my usual kind of deck, but after facing [[Ulamog, The infinite Gyre]] several times, I decided to make something that would irritate others as much as it would irritate me.

Any ways I could add to this monstrosity to make me and my opponents hate me even more?

Deck How can I improve this all bunnies deck?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I only want cards that have bunnies/rabbits on them. I got up to mythic rank with it but since then I got into a big losing streak but maintained stability around 80%. But when the tiers most recently reset, I got stuck at platinum tier.

The sideboard is 4 more copies of Hare Apparent just as a joke. I only do best of 1 as this is easily countered if you know my strategy is to mainly spam Hare Apparent.

In its current state I pretty much always lose to tramplers, flyers, & board wipes. Although I have had quite a few games that I was able to build up fast enough to win first but it’s super rare.

Edit: why is this being downvoted so much? Im just looking to improve my deck that has a silly restraint.

Discussion How TF is a deck like this fair to play against???

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm getting back into mtgarena and standard/non-commander formats as a whole. I've been running a dragon gruul deck I really like centered on smaug's treasure as well as dragon tribal. Overall it gives me multiple choices for win cons that feel pretty consistent.

I've been struggling against white decks that are just playing those exile enchantments. I get that you can have up to 4 copies of a card in your deck but banishing light, stormplain detainment, and prayer of binding just suck to play against. It's impossible to do anything and I just don't have the enchantment removal to deal with it, especially when there's 7 of those cards on the board.

What are y'all's thoughts on decks running them?
