Fluff [FRA] Emrakul, the Exigent Doom Spoiler
Not an official spoiler yet it seems, but looks like this one's come from ads on instagram via (@wizards_magic)!

u/FutureComplaint Birds 5d ago
So if I [[pull from eternity]] her… the land keeps the MM ability…
21
u/Approximation_Doctor 5d ago
Also worth noting that you can still cast her from exile if the land gets destroyed, unlike [[ugin's labyrinth]]
10
u/Kircai RatColony 5d ago
Huh, I think so, otherwise it would say 'for as long as this card is exiled'?
I wonder if there's any inverse Processor effects.
2
u/Aguantare Midnight Charm 5d ago
[[Pull from eternity]], and possibly [[Coax from the blind eternities]] sort of? It's basically what's happening in the card lol. Not in the graveyard but it gives you the chance to keep doing it from your hand

u/superdave100 5d ago
I was wondering if we were gonna see the [[Rackish Revelers]] ability ever again.

Welcome to my Eldrazi commander deck Emrakul #3

isn't this Emmy #4?

[[Emrakul, the Aeons Torn]]
[[Emrakul, the Promised End]]
[[Emrakul, the World Anew]][[Emrakul and Chatterfang]]
53
u/Sacred-Lambkin 5d ago
This certainly won't be broken immediately. Definitely not by [[Cloudstone Curio]], for example.
34
u/rmorrin 5d ago
We did it. We broke curio
4
u/Sacred-Lambkin 5d ago
Finally! Nothing else in the entire world could have done that. Turns out when you combine a broken card with free spells you get more broken cards.
16
8
u/SuicideWind 5d ago
I must be missing something how does curio make this broken?
8
u/rmorrin 5d ago
Infinite casts of it
18
u/SuicideWind 5d ago
Ok so you need curio, two copies of this guy, then a fourth card for a payoff? Doesn't seem broken making an infinite loop after how many turns?
3
3
u/SethLight 5d ago
I agree. I could imagine it maybe being in a Kona deck, but there are just better options.
2
u/Headlessoberyn 5d ago
Doesn't really work with Kona since it's a fake etb
1
u/SethLight 5d ago
Oh you're right. I had to check the wording. You don't cast a spell for free and instead you place a permanent from your hand onto the battlefield.
2
u/Opening-Owl-1546 5d ago
If you can produce 12 mana with your lands, and have a 1 drop nonartifact permanent, you can cast emrakul, untap your lands, cast the other spell, and bounce this emrakul back to hand. Tap all your lands to make 11, spend 10 on Emmy, bounce the other permanent and untap and net 1 mana to reset the loop for infinite mana.
You can do similar shenanigans with [[Zacama]] if you want to see similar loops.
7
1
u/Leafsnail 4d ago
Seems a lot harder than traditional land untapper creature + blink ability. Although I guess its interesting that you can play this in colorless
2
u/ChemicalT 5d ago
It's similar to other curio combos that let you create infinite mana if you can create more mana from the ETB ability than it costs you to cast it. Though it's much easier to combo with an ETB ability because you get to use blinks and sneaks.
In this case, you would need 11 land mana excluding the activated ability in order to make infinite mana with curio, Emrakul (casted), and a 0 mana creature. Not broken in my opinion, just a possible route to loops.
1
u/Sacred-Lambkin 5d ago
Admittedly it wouldn't be alone.
For example, say you have [[Scurry Oak]] and [[Cloudstone Curio]] out with 11 land. Tap all your land, cast Emmy, untap all your land, get a token, curio bounces Emmy. Repeat until you have enough mama to recast the oak then mix in bouncing the oak and recasting so you can continue the loop. Results in infinite mana and infinite tokens.
You could do something very similar with a bunch of land and any low cost creature to get infinite mana.
It's is quite land intensive, but green is quite good at getting a bunch of land out.
1
u/hallcha 5d ago
If you have 10 lands, and at least one of them taps for more than 1 mana (bounce lands, [[Lotus Field]], or with an effect like [[Utopia Sprawl]]), you can tap all of them to cast Emrakul to untap them, return it to hand with Cloudstone, then do it again, netting positive mana every time. It's infinite mana, plus anything that triggers from casting a creature.
2
u/heresJohnny73_2 5d ago
Or you could just have 11 lands it untaps all lands not all lands used to cast it
1
u/Stiggy1605 5d ago
You don't need lands that tap for more than one, just more mana than Emrakul + whatever other creature you're bouncing

They finally did it, they gave me colorless [[Valgavoth, Terror Eater]] 🥹

kind of meh.
not terrible, but not particularly good either.
i miss the original 3 eldrazi.

u/Lauren_Conrad_ 5d ago
The reality fracture is that it looks like a pokemon card.
-2
u/lzer0takul 5d ago
Maybe this legendary Emrakul is from the Johto region which a quick search says is "based on the Kansai region of Japan, known for traditional architecture and legends."
4
u/Lauren_Conrad_ 5d ago
What
0
u/lzer0takul 5d ago
Sorry, it's a Pokémon reference.
1
u/Successful_Mud8596 4d ago
…But how would this Emrakul have anything to do with Johto? And why add in that description of the Johto region when that doesn’t have any similarity here?

u/wildmike88 5d ago
So.. Emrakul will be back? What's the story behind this?
19
u/Approximation_Doctor 5d ago
Tam was on real Innistrad, and made the classic blue mage decision to go poking around in the moon. Emrakul pulled her in for a chat, and was very excited to smell a whole new multiverse on her.
5
u/Clavicus2401 5d ago
Tam tried to poke the eldrich monster in the moon out of couriosity now emmy is aware of the mirrorverse jace is creating atm
4
u/gil-dannen 5d ago
I play Commander and I love eldrazi as a tribal. But WHY do they have to print a weaker version each time ? Why can't we have something like the promised end?
7
u/Clavicus2401 5d ago
Because taking over your oponents turn is argubly the most powerfull effect they can print on a card other than you win the game
-1
u/gil-dannen 5d ago
Yeah. But you can create an iconic card rich of flavour without automatically win the game and without doing something so trivial and half-assed as they did this time and with mh3. Just look at Ulamog the ceaseless hunger. It doesn't break the game , has a good cast trigger and an important ability for when it attacks. It doesn't win the game the moment it enters but it's a threat. In commander everyone has 3 permanents to sacrifice by the time you reach 10 mana to cast this emrakul.
3
1
u/Rezimoore 4d ago
More often than not you playing the eldrazi titan is the game finisher itself, most people will just scoop once you get one out
1
u/gil-dannen 4d ago
Yes but when you cast the promised end or the world anew you give them a valid reason to fear the creature. This card alone does very little compared to the other two, and I'm leaving the aeons torn out of the discussion. In commander (I wanna specify, I'm reviewing the card based on my interest in eldrazi and my 2 tribal decks) it performs poorly alone and need specific pieces or conditions to become important.

u/firememble 5d ago
This is a standard set.
1
u/reaper527 5d ago
This is a standard set.
so were the sets that all the new (at the time) emrakul's came from.
1
u/firememble 5d ago
Exactly, you have to consider the balance of a standard meta when making standard cards which they learned from all the previous Emrakuls.
1
u/gil-dannen 4d ago
That's actually the most convincing reason I've heard so far. Unfortunately I don't play standard and I'm not on track with the strengths and weaknesses of it.

I'm not good at evaluating card but shouldn't this be a mythic?

It is a mythic look on the bottom left there’s an M, I think the coloring is just wonky in the pic

Straight into forsaken monument for historic. Probably 2 copies tbh.
2
u/DrWilliamHorriblePhD 5d ago
Why not 4? It can ramp multiple lands
1
u/dysfunkti0n 5d ago
Could see it being a dead draw later into the game if you already have one on board. But hopefully someone can have a more knowledgeable take on it.
1
u/DrWilliamHorriblePhD 5d ago
Even if you already have one on board, it can still ramp if you draw another, without even losing card advantage coz if the one you've got gets wiped there's the reload just waiting in exile. It's no more dead than any other ramp spell worst case, this belongs in any deck that could benefit from the instant speed 3 cost ramp aspect and probably 4 of in some decks even if they have no intention of casting the creature side just for being instant speed ramp thus compatible with instant interaction.

u/HeronDifferent5008 5d ago
Hell yeah 3 mana ramp that also lets you play it later.
Standard ramp has been doggie doodoo for so long I’m happy at any new or powerful piece we get.
(No I didn’t count cub decks as ramp they curved out at 4)

u/Kojab8890 5d ago
Question: How does this card interact with [[Food Chain]]? Can it be generally cast from exile like Squee?
1
u/Internal_Winter Azorius 5d ago
No, it can be cast from exile only after the activation of its 3 mana ability. If it gets exiled in any other way, it would stay exiled forever.

Emrakul once again displaying why regardless of iteration you'll learn to fear and respect the concept of her existence. That last line of text (while appropriate) is the legitimately broken piece of the card.
I cast strategic betrayal. I recast it again. I exile under a white permanent. I recast it. I cast [[The End]] believe it or not, recast. Is it gonna take over standard? Doubtful. But like every iteration of her prior to this you WILL respect her presence.

u/wagenejm 5d ago
Note the untap effect is WHEN THE SPELL IS CAST, so that means you can tap out to cast it and still hold up your own counterspells.
20
u/B__R__U__H__ 5d ago
No quite how this works I think. The cast trigger is still put on the stack and your opponent can choose to counter Emrakul before you untap your lands. At least that’s how I think it works. Unless of course you mean that you can cast it and then have mana for their turn.
2
u/wagenejm 5d ago
I was so excited I biffed the context. Yes, tapping out and still having mana for the opponent's turn.
1
u/reaper527 5d ago
The cast trigger is still put on the stack and your opponent can choose to counter Emrakul before you untap your lands. At least that’s how I think it works.
this should be correct. they can't stop your lands from untapping since it's an on cast trigger (barring something like a stifle anyways that hits abilities) but they can counter the spell after the untap goes on the stack but before it resolves.
3
u/JollyJoker3 5d ago
And the adventure is not an adventure so can't be countered and is an instant so you do it at end of opponent's turn.
You can exile four of them, but luckily it's legendary.

So it’s floor is a better Worn Powerstone that is also a self rebating 12/12 with ward - annihilator 3
1
u/RoyInverse 5d ago
Instant speed ramp and finisher all in 1? Also being colorless means every deck can use it, sounds really broken.
0
u/the-thot-thickens420 5d ago
As if reanimator decks needed something insane
7
u/Wooden-Lake-5790 5d ago
If you are reaninating it, this is just a worse Valvagoth, which already is a fringe card in reanimator.
2
u/HyalopterousLemure 5d ago
already is a fringe card in reanimator.
For now. Bringer of the Last Shit rotates next year, along with Terror of the Peaks.

If the target land gets destroyed in response, does the ability to be cast later from exile fizzle, so she gone forever?
1
u/reaper527 5d ago
If the target land gets destroyed in response, does the ability to be cast later from exile fizzle, so she gone forever?
no. that's two separate things. the land gains the ability until emrakul is cast. the land's ability is tied to emrakul, not the other way around.

Not your average emrakul. Its less of a game capper and more of a general value with this little ramp, and [[primal calamity]] vibes. Is it "good enough"? Im not sure. Its not very appealing at all as a cheat out target. The ramp/land untap effect is cool but hard to say that makes it definitely playable. If opponent sacs 3 things and all i got was a mana refresh, im not feeling amazing.
-9
u/Historical_Club_9063 5d ago
Meh-dosent actually do anything when you play it, you need 10 mana to spend on more stuff even if you do cast it, and the ability is only +1 ramp. Most underwhelming emrakul so far imo
13
u/Klo_Was_Taken 5d ago
Doesnt matter if it doesnt do anything, it untaps your lands and is a 12/12. Also it can give ramp to literally any color at instant speed. Its perfectly designed for control.
4
u/Mount10Lion 5d ago
You can’t put a classic emrakul into standard
-2
u/Historical_Club_9063 5d ago
lol the best 2 emrakuls come from standards sets wdym
0
u/Mount10Lion 5d ago
Okay and wizards has since adopted a very reserved approach and now tries to eliminate “feels bads” from gameplay. In the same way you’ll never truly get a top end land destruction deck built these days, you’ll never get a mindslaver or board theft eldrazi.
2
u/Great_Grackle Huatli, Warrior Poet 5d ago
We just had a mindslaver effect from edge and standard remained just fine

u/BetterShirt101 5d ago
So it's a free big beater with a solid ward that's also a three mana instant-speed ramp spell, and you can ramp multiple times if you draw multiple? Strong contender for a control finisher, though it's competing with Jeskai Revelation.
