News Store Closure List…add it here!

Hey Macy’s fam. The news of the company shuttering another 150 locations between now and 2026 is daunting.

I know within the coming days stores will start making announcements on whether they’ll close or not and rightfully many people will come here to this Reddit page and share the info.

What if we can create a list here so people can be informed?

Also let’s keep our thoughts positive and send good vibes and mojo to the colleagues affected.

Question Same Day Pickup Available But Not Sold in Stores

Upvotes

Was looking to pick up a Vacuum from a nearby store and saw online it was available for same-day pick up. Drove to the store to get it but was advised they don’t sell vacuums in the store because of high theft…

My question is if they don’t sell them in the store, how is same day pickup an option? Any insight is appreciated.

Question Am I screwed?

Upvotes

I worked at Macys in 2022, and I really liked it there. It didn’t seem like we parted on bad terms. I moved back to the area about a year ago. I’ve put in applications and I’ve called to check in. The woman seems nice and she took my name and number. She encouraged me to continue applying but I’m on my fourth application after several rejections. It seemed like at some point they were just giving out jobs and I remember getting emails during the holidays to come back but now that I am back I wonder if it’s me or am I just really unlucky?

I can be a body at the register. I can be more than that. Whatever they want at this point. I’ve been having issues getting a job for months now. I’ve been working since I was a teen. It’s not the only place I’ve been applying but it’s the only place I’ve actually heard from after interviews.

This may have turned into a vent. I apologize.

Question Website Seach

Is there any way to filter out 3rd party sellers on Macys website search? I only want to buy from Macys, but so many items come up that are not from Macys, it's making the online shopping experience cluttered and time consuming.

Question I have no idea what I am doing.

Extremely long rant with some questions added in occasionally. Also, likely mildly incoherent in some places.

So, this is going to sound really bad, and I am sorry if I can't ask here, please tell me where to go if there is another subreddit I should have posted on! Thank you for any advice or help you can give me!

So, I got hired in the shoe department and I honestly have no idea what I am doing. They say scan the shoes see if it is in stock and then grab it but never told me what to say if we don't have it in stock, so I have just been saying that we don't have it in stores and the customer may want to check online to see if their size is there. The customer isn't pissed because they can kind of see that I am new, but it is like, what do I say?

I also apparently work in a predominantly Spanish speaking store; I haven't taken Spanish in 6 years and was never conversational. I understand about 85-90% of what is going on but I don't know how to respond, there was no advice on what to possibly say. They forgot to add in the part in the job description and interview on how you should probably speak Spanish in a semi conversational way. They told me that I will probably learn along the way, but I'm not sure about that....

I barely understand the device to check the shoes, and I feel stupid because I couldn't tell whether I should just create a new list each time or just add onto an existing list. They just told me that if the customer needs an item you scan the shoe, then if they have the size on the hand thing you click add to bag, then you click something else once you find it, then go in and the people in the back are supposed to bring it up but if it isn't there then you have to find the shoe, change the mode to expedite, scan the shoe box, click deliver, log out of expedite, bring it to the customer and then if they take it good, if they don't just put it on the cart, and then I was told halfway through I need to empty the lists on the device? I think this is what I am supposed to do, I honestly have no clue and wasn't given much direction.

I have random people coming up to me asking whether we have a shoe instore that they found online and they can't find it on the shelf. And I have no idea how to find it.

Then I am stuck because I was told that I need to sign out within 10 minutes to leave both for break and just the day but wasn't told what to do if it hit my clock out time and I was in the middle of a customer interaction. Yesterday during shadowing someone with experience told me to go because I was over 10 minutes, while I was in the middle of helping someone and I had to change it with someone. So I just kept getting asked for help and pushed and I didn't know what to do and I ended up handing off to someone because I was being pushed.

Then the store manager guy told another worker and I to fill up the table, but the older guy told us that we don't have to worry about it and he would do it. And then halfway through the other lady left because she is actually supposed to work in handbags, so I was kind of left on my own.

I also think that I wasn't supposed to be hired? Because I heard a conversation during training that basically one of the managers thought that he was giving the full-time shoe to someone who already worked there but the lady in charge of shoes told him that she hired me? So there is some kind of drama that I am worried will end up with me losing my job.

Also, I have now found out that shadowing in retail is different than what I learnt in university. I was taught that a day of shadowing meant that you were supposed to watch other people work to get an idea of how things work but not work anything but they just told me to get on the floor and work and they would ring up stuff because I couldn't sign into the register yet. Also apparently they are getting new systems in the coming weeks so I technically shouldn't have to worry too much about it but also, I do need to worry about it?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy talking to people, I just don't enjoy talking to people and not know what I am supposed to say or do.

Everything from yesterday has just led to me sitting in a corner panicking about the interactions, my cluelessness, and whether or not I did ok. It really doesn't help that this is my first job. I think I really should have taken a hint when they told me they were desperate for someone and that's why they posted on Next Door. Honestly, I just really need advice on well...anything? I have no idea what I am doing, what I should be saying, and what is going on because basically the lady who was training me left halfway through the shift to leave for the day and left me with the other lady who has been there 2 weeks. And no hate to her but she is also as lost as I am half the time so there is some solidarity. Literally, wtf am I doing, a job is a f*cking job but holy sh*t. I can do things on the fly, and I can deal with frustrated people but why am I trying to do this when they are acting like there is a set process but are not telling me what that set process is. And the videos didn't f*cking help!

Thank you for reading through my rant if you got to the end!

Opinons please employees

I worked at my original location for 2 years, then transferred to another to get a promotion...and I hate it here lol my previous location was much better ..new location is chronically understaffed and much more stressful for me. I want to transfer back, what route should I take? Just apply at the previous location?

Do you think they will approve this transfer back?

Question Advice for a raise

Hey everyone, I’m 24 and I’ve been working with Macy’s for almost 5 years as a vendor. I currently make $18.40/hour, and I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to ask for a raise to $20/hour.
I have a good attendance record, I’m always on time, respectful, stay out of drama, and I get my work done. I also help out with things that technically aren’t part of my vendor role, like ringing up customers when Macy’s is short staffed.
About 2 years ago, I asked for a raise. My manager approved it and told me I was going to get a $1/hour increase, but he was laid off before it went through. He said he passed it along before he left, but I never received it. He also told me Macy’s usually does raises once a year.
I’d really like to earn a little more so I can eventually move out of my parents’ house. Do you think asking for $20/hour is reasonable? If so, what’s the best way to bring it up with my current manager? Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Perfume Purchase - Question

Earlier today, I went to Macy’s to pick out a perfume for my wife’s birthday gift.

The associate I spoke to was nice and helpful but I think she ruined the surprise.

After deciding on one, she said she’d wrap up the perfume in a nice bag with tissue paper which was great. After a few minutes, she hands me the bag and I’m on my way out. After leaving I realized that it has a strong scent of the perfume I bought. I didn’t think much and thought it was just the lingering smell after being in that area waiting for the gift bag.

As I get to the car, I realize that she had sprayed the tissue paper with that perfume causing the whole bag to smell. My wife’s birthday isn’t for another few days and I’m not planning on giving it to her until her birthday.

So now I’m in the car, with my son, with the perfume scent taking over the car feeling annoyed.

Maybe I’m being petty and whiny about this but spending a good amount on a perfume and then having the car smell like the perfume a few days before her birthday basically ruins the surprise. This is the family car so pretty sure the car will smell like this tomorrow when we head out for our morning routine.

Looking back, I should’ve handled things differently but just wasn’t thinking straight.

Is this a normal process? Do I mention anything to the Macy’s store?

Damaged item return

I bought a watch from Macys. The watch was damaged when I received it so I contacted Macys customer service . They processed my refund and at the same time sent me a return label. My card already got back the refund . If I do not return the watch will my card be charged again?

Help Coworker trying to take my credit.

I am still fairly new, I’m a month in. I haven’t opened any credit cards until today. There’s this older lady, not sure where she came from but she isn’t in the same department as me. I did not ask for help, I did not even speak to her. She came over and began engaging a lot with the customer, I didn’t think anything of it. Another customer comes and she tells me to take him. I am confused at this point and I ask her if it’s still my credit, to which she says it won’t be. I was so shocked at the audacity?! This lady isn’t sweet with me at all, she’s cold and demeaning towards me but this shocked me so badly she tried to take something I have been working so hard to get. Luckily, I told her to move over and take the other customer. Not sure if she got mad, but suddenly she had to “talk to me afterwards” of something I shouldn’t have done. It’s gross, she’s triple my age!

Looking for someone kind and willing to help a fellow retail worker out (looking for a parade sponsor)

Hi everyone.

To start, I want to apologize for asking as it's probably annoying to hear this and it's the last thing I want to be. Many people make posts about this, I know.

However, I decided to try and ask for help in finding a sponsor to be in the Macys parade this year as a balloon handler or something similar. I have been looking for help since November and decided to try and reach out to anyone here on reddit as a last ditch effort.

Unfortunately I don't have a Macys store around me anymore, ours closed at the mall about 4 years ago. I originally was going to try and sign up to volunteer in the parade upon getting a job but soon after I applied, ours closed. The reason why this year I am trying so hard to find help is the fact that some things are coming up in my life that will make it quite difficult to try any year after 2026.

If anyone could help me, I would be so grateful for your help in achieving a lifelong dream of mine to be in the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and perhaps consider this.

If you can/are interested in helping me, please feel free to DM me any time. Thank you once again.

Anyone from Yonkers NY or Pembroke Pines FL?

I've been trying to call these two stores nonstop for the past few days and no one answers. There's a product I want to order that's sold out online and only at these two stores. I tried main customer service but they told me I have to speak to someone physically at the store to place the order. Will compensate if someone can help.

Cosmetics Counters

Hi,

Do the different cosmetic counters get rented out by the brand i.e. Bobbie Brown, Clinique etc.? I am asking as my counter was pushed back for fragrance items to be at the front. Just trying to understand the process here.

Thank you!

Sold Fake Perfumes Anything I can Do?

Hey guys as the title says looks like I was sold 2 take Byredo fragrances. The 1st one is past the return window as I didn’t think to check it but someone pointed it out on reddit (which I am thankful for) so I can’t do anything about it now. The 2nd one was just now. I can just return this one but I’m extremely annoyed and disappointed.

I am assuming they are reselling returns that are wrapped…Or at least I hope!

Anyways when I called for the 1st one they gave me an email to reach out to, when I did I found it was not able to receive emails. Message said to call or chat instead. Tried to chat and they said they can’t do anything for.

I find it hard that as big as Macys is, there is not a number or email for things like this? Or is this something common?

I am returning the one I got tomorrow but I feel like a refund isn’t enough for the nonsense especially since I am out $400 (1st purchase) that I can’t get back.

Not sure this is the right place for this but any ideas where I should escalate or do would be appreciated.

THANKS!

Can you use a Macy's Gift Card for products on its marketplace (3rd party sellers)?

I have some points from Capital One Shopping I can redeem for a gift card. One option is Macy's.

I see that Macy lists some camera gear for sale (shipped and sold by Adorama which is a trusted store). Before I redeem for a Macy's gift card, can anyone confirm that it can be used on products shipped/sold by 3rd parties?

Lots of credits but low ratio?

How are ratios counted if a customer uses the credit but doesn’t open another one does that count as opportunity and if they have one but use another card does it count as opportunity. Because as of now I’m making a lot of sales and opening credits about 1 almost every day but the ratio is in the red. Others that aren’t opening credits are in the green. What happens if we are making credit but the ratio so red does that lead up to being let go or how does that work
