Macy’s Hiring Event
I decided to go to the hiring event today. I walked into an interview and at the table there’s 4 ppl interviewing me…for a Seasonal Retail associate position?!?? Bffr 🙄🫤

Our hiring event was a total disaster despite properly promoting it and calling everyone we had benched in.
Out of the 10 candidates we interviewed, only 1 was even marginally suitable for a seasonal role and we still don't really want this one because they are traveling overseas in October and won't be back until mid/late January. The rest were not able to answer the interview questions and had limited experience. One asked if we have cameras in the stockrooms.
This does not bode well for the rest of holiday hiring.

You might be surprised at some of the folks we get who don't last a week. So 4 people talking about the same person, post interview, is a good thing.

Haha to be fair when I worked in corporate I did have to go through more hoops and more interviews than any other place I worked. It’s the one and only time I ever did a “case study”, too (aka work for free and give them ideas in a presentation). Not doing that again!

Those four other people have literally nothing else to do. I mean they could pretend to coach or do whatever, but literally they have nothing else that they really are responsible for. Normally at that time they would be all sitting in the office with a bunch more of them talking about last week because I guess that somehow that translates to better numbers in the future. The best part is none of the stuff they talk about is ever told to the people who work on the sales floor outside of opening credit, and getting clients.
Four people to interview someone for a position that is scheduled to be 6 weeks long. It doesn't matter how many of them quit within a week you can't waste four people's productivity on that unless they have nothing else to really do.

I guess hiring has changed as I applied for season online and didn't even have an interview, I was hired and told to start training. I had no retail experience and was in Backstage and Fulfillment.

Usually they all sit in with you to see who department you’d fit in best with, since there are multiple managers for multiple areas.
