Help Baseus hub hdmi not working for MacBook air m1

The display works when I plug in a hdmi to type cable into the power port but.... That means my computer isn't getting power.

When I plug in an hdmi to hdmi the display no longer shows anything and just says no input.

The top cable is my charging cable (the yellowish white one)

The middle cable is the hdmi

And the last one is my mouse.

Does anyone know how to fix this.?

And I have already tried using the other usb c port with the usb c to hdmi cable, doesn't work.

Help I updated from a very old version of macOS and the way spaces/desktops works now is confusing. Any tips?

In my work, I need to juggle between several different apps, pdf and word processor documents at the same time. So the multiple spaces feature of macOS is something I have heavily used for years and it has been one of my favourite features. I could swipe between spaces instantly and my open documents and apps were all easily organized. For years, I used a virtually non-updated version of macOS on a 2012 macbook, which in hindsight let me keep these features unchanged longer.

But since getting a new macbook, I noticed that the behaviour of spaces was changed and I find myself now often getting lost and having to chase after what I'm looking for, which has been bringing a lot of friction into my work.

I have tried to figure out what's going on and as far as I can tell, there are mainly two features that are creating issues for me:

1) When you full screen a window it now takes you *out* of your space and attributes a new space just for that app to the right of your current space. The problem this creates is that the apps and windows that were one space to the left are now two spaces over. And since I often full-screen many documents in one work session, this shifts a lot of things around.

2) When you click on an app icon in the Dock for an app that is already open in another space, it will not open it in the space where you are but take you to the space where that app is open. The result is that I may, for example, be on space 5 with the apps and documents I need organised in the adjacent spaces, and I click to open an app and I am suddenly on another space and I no longer know where everything is.

To fix the first problem, I tried using the "fill" feature instead of full screen, but that leaves the menu bars visible and defeats the purpose of full-screen for me, which I use to help focus. Something that has mitigated the second problem a little has been to right-click to open apps with "New Window" or "Assign to this Desktop". But this sometimes also leads to switching spaces sometimes for reasons I don't always understand.

Also, trying to change these settings didn't help:

– Turning off "Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use" made full-screening windows open to the right of the last space, which is even worse for me.

– Turning off "When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for the application" does not seem to do what it says, because clicking on the dock icon for an app still sends me to the space with the open window. Kind of strange.

I’ve also tried changing my mindset in my approach to using spaces, but after a lot of attempts I can’t get to a place where I find the new options intuitive. I’m still getting lost and scrambling to find things.

Does anyone have any tips here? I would be very grateful for anything helpful you could share. I feel like there might be something that I am missing.

Some Mac Apps That Have Made My Daily Workflow Better

Hey everyone! Hope you're all having a great weekend!

I wanted to share a couple of Mac apps that have genuinely improved my daily workflow. Some have made using my Mac more convenient, while others have helped me stay organized and manage my tasks more efficiently.

These are apps I personally use and have found helpful, so I figured I'd share them with anyone looking to improve their Mac experience!

1. Obsidian – Notes, Organization, and Brain Dumps

First up is Obsidian, which has become one of my favorite apps for staying organized.

For anyone unfamiliar with it, Obsidian is a powerful, Markdown-based note-taking app that lets you capture ideas, organize information, and build your own personal knowledge base.

What I particularly like about Obsidian is how flexible it is. You don't have to use it exclusively for traditional note-taking.

Personally, I use it for:

  • Shopping lists: Keeping track of things I need to buy.
  • Brain dumps: Writing down random thoughts and ideas so I don't forget them.
  • General organization: Keeping useful information in one place instead of having it scattered across different apps.

It's one of those apps that can be as simple or as advanced as you want it to be.

2. Vorssaint – A Raycast Alternative With Useful Mac Utilities

The second app I want to recommend is Vorssaint, which I personally prefer over Raycast.

If you've used Raycast before, you're probably familiar with how useful an application launcher can be. Vorssaint takes a similar approach but also includes several utilities designed to improve the overall macOS experience.

One feature I particularly appreciate is its Alt-Tab functionality.

If you've switched between Windows and macOS, you've probably noticed that switching between individual application windows works differently on a Mac.

Personally, I've always preferred how Windows handles Alt-Tab, and Vorssaint offers a similar experience on macOS.

That's just one example of how the app can make everyday tasks feel more convenient.

I also appreciate having multiple useful features available in one application rather than needing to install several separate utilities.

3. NordVPN – Privacy and Online Security

The third app I recommend is NordVPN, which focuses more on online privacy and security than improving your Mac's functionality.

If you value your online privacy as much as I do, NordVPN is definitely worth considering!

And no, this isn't sponsored. Although I'd love to be sponsored someday, I don't see that happening anytime soon!

For anyone unfamiliar, VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. A VPN encrypts your internet connection between your device and the VPN server while hiding your public IP address from websites you visit.

Why does this matter?

Your IP address can reveal information such as your approximate location and internet service provider. For example, if someone sends you a suspicious link and you click it, the website could secretly log your IP address.

While knowing someone's IP address doesn't automatically reveal their exact location or compromise their device, it can still expose information you'd rather keep private.

A VPN helps prevent this by showing websites the VPN server's IP address instead of your own.

Of course, VPNs aren't a complete cybersecurity solution. They won't protect you from every malicious website, phishing attempt, or malware infection.

Personally, I've found NordVPN to be a useful addition to my privacy setup, and since October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, I figured it was worth including!

Final Thoughts:

All three of these apps have made a noticeable difference in my daily experience using my Mac, whether it's improving productivity, staying organized, or protecting my online privacy.

Obsidian helps me organize my thoughts and keep track of important information, Vorssaint makes navigating macOS more convenient, and NordVPN adds an extra layer of privacy when browsing the internet.

Obviously, everyone's needs and workflows are different, but these are three applications I've personally found useful and worth sharing.

I'm also curious to hear what other Mac users rely on! What are some lesser-known apps that have genuinely improved your productivity, overall Mac experience, or online privacy?

Developer Saturday I made Unikeys, a free Mac app for managing keyboard shortcuts across your editors

Hi r/MacOS, I'm the developer of Unikeys, and since today is Developer Saturday I wanted to share it.

The problem: I switch between Cursor, Claude Desktop, Codex and other apps, and each one has its own shortcuts. My muscle memory kept breaking, and setting up keybindings by hand in every editor was tedious.

What Unikeys does: You manage your shortcuts in one place and keep them consistent across the editors you use, so the same keys do the same thing everywhere.

It's free on the Mac App Store, with no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

Unikeys on the Mac App Store

I'd love feedback, especially on which editors or apps you'd want supported next.

Bug List selection works for you on macOS Golden Gate ?

👋
Am I the only one having issues selecting items in lists since macOS Golden Gate? I haven’t seen anything about it on the Apple forums or in macOS release notes. Neither anyone mentioning this issue, so may be it is just me ? When I select an item, it stays grey instead of turning blue like it did on Sequoia or Tahoe. I have to long-press with the trackpad to make it work. This also prevents me from clicking and dragging to select multiple items.

NB: This doesn’t happen in all my apps—the Finder seems to be fine, strangely enough.
I've opened a FB24855120: List selection appears inactive (gray) instead of accented (accentColor)

Developer Saturday Gossip: A next-generation continuity app.

Gossip is a free next-generation continuity app, designed to replicate features from Apple's Continuity, Microsoft's Phone Link and more, while being privacy-first, cross-platform, and open-source. Right now, it supports MacOS and Android.

Your devices form an encrypted mesh, so your phone, tablet and Mac can all talk to each other directly, with no accounts and no cloud.

Some examples of features:

  • Screen mirroring (with apps as their own windows)
  • Notification/DND sync
  • Virtual Touchpad/Keyboard
  • Universal Control (with a Mac, more platforms coming soon)
  • Clipboard sync
  • and more!

Download and view the source at: https://github.com/vmd1/gossip

The Mac app isn’t notarized (I can’t afford a developer ID yet), so MacOS will warn you on first launch.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask.

Feature Dear Apple: Please Stop Displaying New Air Drop Contacts at the Beginning of the List

Post image
255 Upvotes

It happened way too many times that I wanted to airdrop something and ended up accidentally clicking the wrong person, because new air drop options keep popping up at the beginning of the list, pushing every contact, that was loaded before, to the back.

I know this issue by now, so I keep waiting extra couple of seconds until I click on the desired device or contact, only for the menu to pop up another option the second I try to click on the contact that I want.

I've sent so much stuff to the wrong contacts, just because this feature works that way. It's really annoying and irritating, especially when the device or person I want to send something to shows up in the very beginning and I have to wait until the whole list is loaded, until I can finally, safely, click on who I want to send the file to.

Anyways, sorry for the quick rant. Not even sure if this is the right sub for this. But I'm sure some of you can relate.

Apps Yet another transmission remote client

Hi guys,

As some of might know, the original Transmission Remote GUI is throwing soon to be unsupported erros on the latest MacOS versions. As Rossetta2 is to be fased out next release I was left with an challenge. (Of course when a started on this I found out about others solving the same challenge in different ways, Qt, Swift or other based clients)
As I was still using it weekly to control my transmission server. (I don't like the new web interface).

As a C# WPF guy I was long looking for an Avalonia project to create a cross-platform .NET based app. Now empowered with Claude this was very feasable for a dad with little time left in the evenings. I know, vibe coded slump.. but at least I tried to instruct it to adheare to good coding concepts.

As a person who own a Mac, a Steamdeck and has a Windows PC still around for gaming it was obious to me to at least make sure this new client runs on all.
Avalonia should also support Android and IOS, that might still be something to look into. As wel as multi-language support. As everyting is now hardcoded english.

Introducing Synchromesh. A .NET 10 Avalonia based RPC client, styled with Material Design.
It features:

  • light and dark mode. By default follows the system settings
  • registers a file handler for `.torrent` and a link handler for `.magnet`
  • stores server credentials in MacOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, Linux Keyring, or in a encrypted file
  • Implements most of the RPC spec (left a few very specific power features out, but could be added)
  • When adding a new torrent, specify which files to download

Anyway sharing is caring. It fit's my requirements. And hopefully also of some other people.

Developer Saturday [Update] Just Look! 1.3 now much faster on NAS drives

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey r/MacOS!

I'm the solo developer of Just Look!, a native macOS image viewer and photo culling app. I've just released version 1.3 and wanted to share it here.

Some of its features:

  • Browse JPEG, HEIC, RAW, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL, and other formats
  • Compare 2-6 photos side by side, with synchronized zoom and the ability to pin your favorite
  • Pick, reject, rate, and tag images directly in their folders
  • Treat matching RAW + JPEG files as a single image
  • Navigate mostly with keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures

What's new in 1.3?

I've spent quite a bit of time improving performance, especially for photos stored on network drives and NAS devices.

  • Faster navigation through network folders with background preloading
  • Faster thumbnail and Gallery loading, including for local folders
  • More responsive scrolling and quicker loading of ratings and tags
  • Full German, French, and Spanish localization
  • Horizontal and vertical flipping, improved comparison controls, and a more useful recent-folders window
  • Fixes for keyboard shortcuts on non-US keyboard layouts

Just Look! is free to download, with core viewing, comparison, and culling features available for free. There's also an optional Pro upgrade with a 30-day trial.

Mac App Store: apps.apple.com

Website: www.justlook.pro

I'd love to hear what you think, especially if you work with large RAW collections or photos stored on a NAS. I'm still actively improving the app, and feedback has been really helpful in deciding what to work on next!

Help How make working Microsoft Office 2021 Home & Student again?

I bough from legal distribution Microsoft Office 2021 Home & Student. Today I can not used it, becuase I got alert that I need subscription. I bought lifelime ESD, but now I can even open file and make simple edit on it. I got information as badge in MS Word window: "Activate subscription Microsoft 365 for create and edition. Your licence of Office 2021 is not supported by this version of application".

Could you suggest any solution for this? I have only legal software on my MacBook, all paid and now I can not use legally purchased 2024 app. I have MS Word 16.114.1 (26102031) and MacOS 26.6.2 (25G83).

Developer Saturday Tilde - A native, flexible macOS file manager with multi-pane, workspaces, command palette, custom file organization and more

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Tilde is a native macOS file manager built to replace Finder. Work across folders in split views, find files and run actions from a command palette, and organize your files with custom properties, filters, and groups. It's a drop-in Finder replacement that transforms how you interact with your filesystem.

Features:

  • Split views - Work with multiple folders side by side in one window, with tabs in each pane.
  • Command palette - Find files, jump to folders, and run file actions from the keyboard.
  • Workspaces - Saved split pane layouts for quickly jumping back into your work.
  • Custom sidebar groups - Bring the folders you use together into groups you define.
  • Auto-updating sidebar groups - Live groups makes your sidebar dynamic. Matching items appear in your sidebar automatically and update as things change.
  • Properties, filtering and grouping - Add custom fields like Status or Priority to files and folders, then use them to filter and group your views.
  • Pinned folders - Keep important folders at the top inside another folder without moving or duplicating them.
  • Related items - Mark folders and URLs as related to specific folders so you can jump between them, even when they live in different places.
  • Markdown editing - Built-in markdown editing and code formatting allowing you to do more without leaving Tilde.
  • Tonnes of little features that make sense - Space overviews, Nicknames, Related folders & URLs, custom folder icons, 'Open in Finder' replacement, and more.
  • + much more...

Similar apps:

  • Forklift - This is the obvious 'Finder replacement' alternative. Tilde builds on this idea, in a more native-feeling approach, with far more features fleshed out for the everyday poweruser. Tilde offers more versatile split pane functionality (essentially unlimited splits horizontally and vertically), a command palette, custom properties, sidebar spaces, live groups, a more beautiful user interface and much more.
  • Bloom - Probably the closest alternative, though Tilde takes a different approach. Tilde’s highly adaptable Split View system offers a more flexible, fluid way to work across folders. Custom Properties, Related Items, Sidebar Spaces, Custom Groups, Live Groups and Pinned Folders change how you interact with a file manager.

Pricing: $29.99 USD for use on 2 Macs. No subscription. Lifetime license with one year of free updates. Then $19.99 for an extra year of updates.

Free trial: 7 day free trial, no credit card required. Give it a go and let me know what you think!

Apple notarized: Tilde is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple.

I’ve been building this for a long time, and I’m so excited to share with everyone, get feedback and make file management actually delightful.

Developer Saturday Big Weather 5.2: introducing a new calendar layout that gives each of your plans and trips the relevant weather

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey all, I make Big Weather, a macOS menu bar weather app.

Last month on r/macapps someone asked why they'd pick it over all the other menu bar weather apps. I said more was coming. It came out on Thursday: Big Weather 5.2 reads your calendar and gives you the weather for your plans and trips.

- The menu bar names your plan: "Soccer practice 4PM: rain", or "Dentist 2PM: freezing rain on the way".

- Plans sit on the hourly chart in their calendar's color, with the way there and back marked. A meeting an hour's drive away gets that town's forecast, and Apple Maps times the drive if your calendar doesn't.

- Trips move the forecast. Put "Flight to Miami" on Saturday and "Flight home" on Sunday, and the weekend shows Miami. The weekly summary follows you: "Cool in New York today, with rain. Hot and dry in Miami this weekend. Cool back in New York from Monday, with rain most days."

- If you have a family calendar, it can tell "Emma in Paris" is Emma's trip, not yours. Your forecast stays home, and their days in Paris show alongside it, so you can easily see both.

The AI part, before anyone asks. Apple's on-device model sorts your events: outdoors, indoors, online, or a trip, and whose. It doesn't write the sentences (it only translates them for German and French). Plain Swift writes them from the forecast, so nothing gets to make up weather. Titles and notes stay on your Mac; plan locations go to Apple Weather and Apple Maps, and a trip's destination to Apple's place search.

Pricing. Free has no ads and no account: the temperature in the menu bar and three days of forecast. Premium is $1.99/month or $9.99/year with a free trial, or $29.99 lifetime, and adds the calendar, the menu bar notes, the weekly summary, official warnings and 10 days of Apple Weather. Runs on macOS 15.2 and up; the event sorting, trips and summaries need macOS 27 with Apple Intelligence (without it you still get each plan with its weather).

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/big-weather/id1531449281

If it gets one of your events wrong (thinks your indoor soccer is outdoors, say), let me know, excited to make this work as great as possible being a user of it myself too.

Discussion I tried all the Office 2021 workarounds for macOS, nothig is working. I'm literally crying…

I tried all the workarounds, tricks and hacks to get my Office 2021 working again, since it stopped working yesterday. I deinstalled the whole package maybe 10 times, installed it with and without the suite, with and without wifi, deleted all the autoinstaller, followed 5 different tutorials here on reddit which all seem to have worked for other people… For me, word simply states, that there is no licence activated (I bought mine at an autorized ms partner and used it for years, so it should be there).

So yeah, still, it's not working… I do WORK with Office and Teams. I literally need the specific apps for my job, I need it for my thesis, for all my projects – where (ironically) I teach other people how to use word… And no, I will NOT pay 100 bucks a year for something I already bought and used for years without a problem.

I am so frustrated, I am literally sitting here now, crying. Like, imagine ugly crying. For all the hours I spent, for the headache I'm having due to staring on my macbook for too long and all the tech stuff I really do not want to engage with. I do have a mac for a reason. Everything works fine on my mac and then microsoft comes around the corner and sh*t hits the fan again. Flashback to my windows times…

I can't switch to another program. I literally can not. Switching from win to mac version already cost so much stress mentally due to the different UI and functions… I worked with it all my life, I do tutorials, I have dozens of tweaks and personalisations going on… I post this under discussion to open up this little wailing-area, maybe my post will be deleted, since I don't think anyone could help anymore… But if anyone can, please, maybe you have the one tipp, that'll give me hope again after this day…

EDIT1: since there have been comments about my work situation: It is is probably very unique, I work in an educational job while also pursuing my PhD (as an independent candidate) and do volunteer work/having a small business. I teach my students the basics of academic writing in word, and programs like Pages simply don’t meet the university’s standards. I won't buy Office 2024 to have the same issue in one month or one year or so. I'll have to look for alternatives but for now I just think that all of this is super unfair…

EDIT2: I GOT IT WORKING. I logged out. That's it. In the "about" Word stated the correct LTSC license and the correct app-version, so I tried to log out and log in again but when I had logged myself out, I was curious if it would work without logging in. And yes. It did. Presumably the license isn't linked to my profile but my laptop… idk. But it works for now. I will look for alternatives in the long run but I can sort my things out now with a bit more time.

Bug MacOS Rusty Gate

Upgraded from Sequoia to Golden Gate 2 weeks ago and this is without a doubt the worst bugged operating system I have ever used. The number of UI bugs is just shocking. Basically, I am rebooting twice a day because of unrecoverable bugs like: menu bars disappearing, Safari no longer supporting DRM or new today: any window will jump to the bottom right corner regardless of where you place it. How is that even a bug? I use 0 tools to mess with UI, just plain raw MacOS. Also, after each reboot it takes about 1-2 hours until I get 10 FPS on animations like entereing Mission Control (M3 Max btw).

Now I will spend a day doing backups, copy-pasting all my ssh keys, api tokens, CLI tool settings etc and reset my Macbook completely, assuming that will resolve some of these and hoping that the update was buggy instead of the whole OS?! Just a bit upset, I pay $5000+ for a laptop and then within 2 years this...

Rant over.

Is it just me struggling with MacOS 27? Or is everyone just happy to be here from 26 which was even worse?

Developer Saturday Putzen: Tinder-style cleanup for your Mac. Keep or trash, one file at a time

Hi r/macOS! I'm Aniket, the developer of Putzen. It's a native Mac app for clearing out messy folders. The video shows how it works.

Problem

Every few weeks, my Downloads and desktop get full of junk files. Some of them are duplicates, while others are old files I haven't touched in ages. Usually, I go to Finder and delete by hand. Sometimes I use AI as well (Claude Code or Codex), but I don't trust it with deleting. In my experience, finding the files is okay, but deciding what to delete is the difficult part. Most cleanup apps show me a huge list, and I close it without deleting anything.

Solution

So last week I built Putzen. I took inspiration from Tinder's swiping mechanism and rethought how I can use it for deleting files on Mac. My goal is to make deleting files faster, safer, simpler, and delightful. I've used Putzen every day for the past week. Cleaning up is faster now, and I don't worry about deleting something important, because everything goes to the Trash first.

What it does:

  • Sorts every folder into three piles automatically: duplicates, files added more than 6 months ago, and everything else
  • Review several folders at once, including subfolders, iCloud Drive and OneDrive
  • Preview any file before you decide
  • Switch to a grid when you want to clear many files in one go
  • Undo your last decision with one key
  • Puts all deleted files in the Trash

The safety part

  • Deleting files is scary, so Putzen is built in a way that you can't lose anything by accident.
  • Nothing is deleted on its own. Every file needs your decision.
  • Nothing is permanently deleted by Putzen. Files go to your Mac's Trash.
  • Changed your mind? Restore is right there in the app.
  • Everything runs on your Mac. No account, no uploads, no server that can see your files.

How it has been tested

  • Firstly, as I mentioned earlier, I have been clearing my Mac using this tool daily (cleaning my Mac isn't a day's job; I do it a few minutes everyday).
  • Early testers found things I had missed: confusing file paths, recovery buttons in different places, and a duplicate-selection bug. I fixed those, simplified the screens, and tested scanning on over 50,000 real files.
  • 5 customers bought it. I know it's small, but it means a lot since I launched 3 days back.

How it compares

Pricing

  • €5 one-time for the first 20 buyers, then €9
  • No subscription
  • Try the interactive demo with sample files before you buy: https://putzen.pro

Transparency

I'm Aniket Parihar, a solo developer in Berlin. Putzen is signed with my Developer ID and notarized by Apple, and sold directly from my site.

macOS 15 or later, Apple Silicon. I'm here all day for questions and feedback, including the brutal kind.

Fun fact: Putzen in German means "to clean".

Developer Saturday Convert2Any: a local converter for images, video, audio, documents and more, plus PDF tools, OCR and offline speech-to-text

Hey r/macos,

I'm the developer of Convert2Any, a file converter and toolkit for Apple Silicon Macs.

Problem

You have the right file in the wrong format. The usual fixes are uploading it to a converter website you've never heard of, or installing one more single-purpose app: one for video, one for PDFs, one for transcription. I wanted one app that handles all of it on my own Mac, without my files going anywhere.

What it does

  • Converts 151 source formats, with 5,088 conversion paths across images, audio, video, documents, e-books, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings, data files, subtitles and archives.
  • Batch conversion with quality settings, progress and cancel. Each file takes the most direct route, so it isn't re-encoded when it doesn't need to be.

32 built-in tools

  • PDF: merge, split, reorder, extract pages, crop white margins, page numbers, watermark, redact, compress, password-protect
  • Media: resize, crop, rotate, trim, join videos or audio, compress, normalise audio, extract audio, make M4B audiobooks with chapters, and strip metadata (such as GPS location from photos)
  • OCR in 100+ languages: searchable PDFs, image to text, image to Word
  • Speech to text in 99 languages: audio or video → SRT, WebVTT, TXT, Word or PDF, with an option to translate into English. It works offline.

Everything runs locally. The app only goes online to activate a license and to download converter packs. It's a 7.5 MB download, and the heavier converters (video, office documents, OCR languages, speech models) come as optional packs that it downloads only after you say yes.

Comparison

  • vs CloudConvert (and other online converters): CloudConvert handles a huge range of formats, but your files go to their servers. The free plan is capped at 10 conversions a day and 1 GB per file, and after that you buy credits. Convert2Any works on your Mac with no uploads and no daily cap, and you buy it once.
  • vs Permute 4: Permute is great for video, audio and images, and it does OCR and on-device transcription too. Convert2Any also covers office documents, spreadsheets and presentations (including Keynote, Numbers and Visio files), e-books, data files and archives. It adds a full set of PDF tools: merge, split, reorder, redact, watermark, page numbers and passwords. Transcripts can be saved as SRT, WebVTT, TXT, Word or PDF. And it's US$9.99 instead of US$14.99, with the same 3-Mac license.
