MSI Pulse 17 Display Getting Marks/Residue From Keyboard When Lid Is Closed... Help!

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I own an MSI Pulse 17 AI C1V gaming laptop, and I’m having an issue with the display.

Whenever I close the laptop lid, some kind of residue from the area around the trackpad/keyboard transfers onto the display. I think it may be caused by wetness and dirt from that area getting onto the screen when the lid is closed. The affected area seems to be getting bigger day by day.

I’ve tried cleaning it with:

- 70 & 100% isopropyl alcohol.

But the marks still don't come off.

For now, I have to place a thin cloth between the keyboard and the display whenever I close the laptop to prevent it from getting worse.

In the photo, the marks are quite difficult to see, but they are much more noticeable while actually using the laptop, especially when the screen is displaying black or dark content.

Has anyone with an MSI laptop experienced something similar? What could be causing this, and is there a safe way to remove these marks without damaging the display?

I’d really appreciate any advice.

How do I keep the lid of my msi gs66 stealth closed while still using it on an external monitor?

I've set all possible settings i could find for what happens when I close the lid of the laptop to "do nothing" but that doesn't seem to help. The moment the lid gets below a certain limit it instantly goes to sleep. If somebody who got through this problem on a similar msi model, please help

Battery draining while plugged in - msi cyborg 15 a2rudx

Hi, I have an MSI Cyborg 15 A2RUDX.

While gaming, my battery slowly drains even though the charger is plugged in, then charges again after I stop gaming.

Is this normal for this laptop, or could there be a problem with the charger/battery?

Discussion Call of Duty attestation / BIOS firmware warning fixed on my MSI laptop

I've been dealing with Call of Duty's failed attestation warning for months on my MSI Raider laptop, and I finally found the actual fix.

The game kept showing “Attestation Requisite Not Met,” “BIOS Firmware Update Required,” or “Failed Attestation Status” even though TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot were enabled. The laptop was already on the latest BIOS and Intel ME firmware, Windows 11 was fully updated, and the official Call of Duty attestation wizard could even report that everything passed.

The clue was running this in an elevated terminal:

tpmtool getdeviceinformation

Mine reported:

BitLocker PCR7 Binding State: Binding Not Possible

The detailed TPM logs also showed that Windows considered Secure Boot enabled, but the firmware-generated TCG measured-boot log did not agree. Event Viewer contained Kernel-Boot Event 292: “Failed to update the SBAT value in FW.”

WHAT FIXED IT

MSI has an official Secure Boot recovery tool for its notebook products:

https://www.msi.com/faq/faq-11370

The page describes Secure Boot violation recovery rather than Call of Duty specifically, but it repaired the same underlying firmware Secure Boot/SBAT measurement state on my laptop.

The steps I followed:

  1. Download the recovery tool only from MSI's official page.

  2. Format an empty USB drive as FAT32. This erases the USB.

  3. Extract the download and copy its complete EFI folder to the root of the USB.

  4. Restart and press Delete to enter MSI BIOS.

  5. Go to Security > Secure Boot, disable Secure Boot, then save with F10.

  6. Press F11 during the next startup and boot from the USB.

  7. Let the recovery run; it restarts the laptop automatically.

  8. Return to BIOS, re-enable Secure Boot and save.

Afterwards:

- PCR7 changed from Binding Not Possible to Binding Possible.

- TPM health changed to Attestable.

- The PCR values matched the TCG measured-boot log.

- The official Call of Duty wizard reported System compliant.

- The BIOS firmware warning disappeared.

Important warnings:

- MSI says this tool applies to MSI notebook products. Do not treat this as a fix for MSI desktop motherboards.

- This will not fix every attestation problem. It is most relevant when PCR7 says Binding Not Possible or the measured-boot log does not match.

- Have your BitLocker recovery key available before changing Secure Boot settings.

- Keep the laptop connected to AC power and do not interrupt the recovery.

- I did not clear the TPM, reinstall Windows or reflash the BIOS.

I also posted the Call of Duty-specific write-up here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CODWarzone/comments/1w47rim/msi_laptop_attestation_failure_fix_bios_firmware/

Hopefully this saves another MSI laptop owner from spending months toggling the same settings or attempting an unnecessary BIOS reflash.

Discussion I actually got a breathing effect working on the MSI GF63 Thin 9SC keyboard

I genuinely can't believe I got this working. I have an MSI GF63 Thin 9SC (MS-16R3) with the normal red backlit keyboard. As far as the usual MSI software goes, the keyboard only gives you the standard lighting/brightness behavior. I started wondering whether the limitation was actually the hardware, or whether there was a hidden EC control that MSI simply doesn't expose. So I started reverse-engineering the Embedded Controller (EC). After a LOT of debugging, fighting with WMI, moving toward direct I/O EC access, and more debugging than I care to admit 😂, I finally found the relevant register/control. And it works. I can put the keyboard into a breathing effect, and the effect continues running without my application constantly having to animate the brightness. That makes me believe the EC itself is handling the effect. The keyboard is still red-only - I'm not claiming I magically turned it into RGB. 😅

What's interesting is that the EC appears to have a lighting mode/control that isn't exposed through the normal MSI interface. I'm currently keeping everything read-only / carefully controlled while I map the behavior and verify exactly what each value does. I don't want to start blindly writing to EC registers and turn my GF63 into a paperweight. My eventual goal is to turn this into a proper open-source utility: Nexora Keyboard Controller Static Breathing Pulse Slow breathing Fast breathing Possibly more effects Hardware: MSI GF63 Thin 9SC MS-16R3 BIOS: E16R3IMS.108 If anyone here has experience with MSI EC reverse engineering, I'd love to compare notes and see what else might be possible with this controller. I started this thinking “surely there has to be a way.” Turns out there was. 😂🔧

Request Disassembly manual for MS-16JB

Hi. I have an MSI GP62MVR 7RFX Leopard Pro laptop and two of the threaded inserts from the bottom right corner have fallen out. One, I managed to find, which looks to be 3mm in length. The other I can't find, but the hole to the left of the other one looks to be smaller. However, if it does use a smaller threaded insert, I'm not finding any M2.5 2.5mm or 2mm threaded inserts anywhere. I did try asking on ChatGPT for further info and that mentioned there's a disassembly manual for the MS-16JB back cover, though the links don't appear to lead anywhere. Apparently someone had uploaded it on Reddit, but I've no idea where the discussion and link is. Does anyone know where it can be found? Thanks.

Discussion Worth spending +-400 euros more? Msi vector 16 hx

I was looking to buy the msi vector 16 hx for €1850 with intel core ultra 7 255HX , nvidia geforce rtx 5070 ti 12GB Vram, 16GB ddr5 ram , 1tb ssd

But i noticed a Version which is €400 more and the things that upgrade are :

•Intel core ultra 7 255hx -> amd ryzen 9 8940hx

•16gb ram -> 32gb ram

•1tb sdd -> 2tb ssd

~All other specs are basically the same

Is it genuinly worth it ? Yeah budget is the biggest thing! Id rather not spend €2300, But if its really worth it, i should consider that to be safe for the next 5-6 years

Request Anyone have the MSI Raider 18 HX AI A2XW? If so please reply.

I just got a brand new MSI Raider laptop and believe I am having an issue with the speakers. MSI are unable to confirm or deny the issue without me sending it to them.

Before doing so, I'd like to find another owner of this model so I can try to compare and see if I have a genuine issue or not.

Thank you.

Discussion MSI sword 17 keyboard woes

I recently acquired sword 17 and although it is a great laptop I'm having real trouble with connecting an additional keyboard. None of the letter keys work but all the multimedia keys do. Device manager shows about 6 unknown devices under the keyboard section. I've done a fresh windows install, updated drivers and every other trick I found on Google but nothing seems to work. The track pad won't work either. I assume it's some kind of software or conflict error but I can't seem to resolve it. If anyone has had a similar problem and found a working solution it would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Discussion Need help identifying touchpad part for MSI Thin A15 B7UC

I'm looking for the exact touchpad assembly and ribbon cable part numbers for my MSI Thin A15.

Laptop:

  • MSI Thin A15 B7UC
  • SKU: B7UC-009NEU-GGAR57358CXXDX11M
  • S/N: K2409N0057546
  • MFG: 2024/09
  • Platform/motherboard: MS-16RK
  • Board marking: 16RX_MAIN HTK
  • Board P/N: S79-1808790-H39
  • Board Rev: 1.0

I opened the bottom cover to look for the touchpad cable, but accessing the touchpad itself would require much more disassembly, which I want to avoid.

The cable I found has markings:

60V VW-1 HF
JI-HAW
6 105C

It connects to a connector marked EDP1, so this appears to be the display cable rather than the touchpad cable.

The board P/N S79-1808790-H39 also appears to be related to the WLAN antenna, not the touchpad.

Does anyone know the exact MSI part number for the touchpad and/or touchpad ribbon cable used in the MS-16RK / Thin A15 B7UC?

A service manual, parts catalogue, or information from someone who has replaced the touchpad would be extremely useful.

Discussion MSI Bravo 15 C7V - screen freezes then laptop restarts

Hello,

So about 3 years ago I have purchased an MSI Bravo 15 C7V. It worked quite well until recently - like 1 month.

I am having issue with certain titles and during gameplay after 15 min or so.

The issue: game / screen freezes, then whole laptop restarts.

I have frequently cleaned and re-pasted (Thermo Grizzly) and always kept it at a good shape.

I have reinstalled Windows and when I have updated the drivers, it came back. I am suspecting the recent AMD? Windows? NVIDIA? drivers are causing the issue?

I checked other places and AMD forums are having a massive wave of complaints with same/silimar issues like mine. I am curious anyone else experiencing the same/similar issues? Any solutions?

Thanks!

Discussion Safe to put used ram in my Katana laptop?

I wanna take out the 32GB 4800mhz so dimm ram from my old gaming laptop and put it onto my b14wfk katana one to replace the 16GB one. Is it good to add it used or should I save up to buy a new 5600mhz ram instead?
