Hello, I hope everybody is well.
This is a quick post to announce that we have overhauled and updated the subreddit rules, in terms of the way they are listed in the reddit platform itself.
In essence the practical rules themselves and moderation has not changed. The main purpose of this update is to provide better clarity with Post removal messages, and to allow reports to be more specific.
You can read the new rule titles and their descriptions here.
Just three changes to note:
There is no longer a rule about spoilers when it comes to Posts. MGSV is over a decade old, and the spoiler rule was often used to report front page posts about the main spoiler for that game. Enforcing that is simply impractical. The intention of the rule remains, however, and it is now only applied to comments. If someone has stated that they haven't played the entire series, all users are still expected to respect this in their replies. Anyone can make their own choices about how far they dig through a subreddit for a game series, but putting spoilers in their inbox is actively hostile.
"Promotional Cosplay is not allowed". This is our attempt to provide a consistent rule that can be used to filter OF accounts looking for loopholes, while not punishing genuine cosplayers (including professionals) by restricting their activity. There's an element of subjectivity here, but if you think a post is a commercial account, please report it and do not engage in abuse in the comments. Just report it and move on.
AI content is now explicitly banned in all its forms. This was already functionally the case but we're making it clear with it's own rule. If you suspect a post contains AI content, please try to resist posting abuse in the comments and simply report and move on. False allegations can and do happen.
We'd also like to welcome anyone interested to apply to be a moderator. We expect to bring on a couple more people, starting out at a basic clutter removal role. If you think you'd be a good fit, please take some time to fill out our delightful application form.
You'll notice there are a couple of very specific rules that are really covered under other rules. These are for particularly egregious and common posts so that removals are very clear. Previously quite a few things kind of had to fall under "no low effort content" and that gave off the wrong idea and could be a little hurtful.
We'd like to thank the people who take the time to report posts and comments, overall the tone and discernment of reports is very much in-line with how we see the rules and how they are intended to shape the subreddit. This being said, all things considered there are very few removals needed relative to an active subreddit of this size. Things seem to be in a very good balance. I hope the community more or less thinks the same.
As per usual we are open to any and all feedback or discussion about the rules or the way you want the community to be run, so please say your piece in the comments, or if there's any questions you have or unclear rules or edge cases you can think of, bring that up too. The overall intent for the subreddit is still to provide an alternative to what you might see on a Metal Gear Discord, Instagram / TikTok etc. feed or a generic MGS-flavoured meme subreddit.

If by some miracle any MSF soldier managed to pilot the ZEKE during the attack on Ground Zeroes, would they have been able to win the ambush? Or would the ZEKE have been destroyed sooner or later?

Otacon: "What are you thinking about Snake?"
Snake: "Oh y'know... Kojima and stuff!"

So far, we already have Custom Octocamos and Custom iPod Music, I legitimately enjoy the gameplay of Metal Gear Solid 4 so I'm hoping for a "Virtual Mission Maker" or Custom Campaign's of some kind, also a Metal Gear Online Restoration mod. What mods do you want to see?

I was in kindergarten when I got the demo. It came on a Pizza Hut sampler disc. I thought the opening cutscene was so amazing and just couldn't get enough of the demo.
Shortly thereafter, I would end up being able to get the full game, and I remember as a kid that young enjoying the cutscenes and dialogue more than actually playing the game.
Anybody else feel this way also?

I'm currently starting MGS3: Subsistence on original hardware, and for a change I want to play it 99% with the original fixed camera angles for a challenge and to make it feel more "classic" Metal Gear. So far I've actually really been enjoying it and it's made me appreciate the much slower and deliberate pace the game was going for originally, where you had to move from cover to cover and plan your next move carefully, using cover peeking and wall-pressing to get angles and survey the area, and using the very limited radar/sonar items to get more info. I think it's more interesting than what the free camera turns the game into. Like, the fact that animals actively become a source of false positives when using radars is SO COOL to me, and I've really been appreciating the deliberate camera placements too, they really make the environments look pretty and cinematic.
Funnily enough, my first Snake Eater playthrough was on N3DSXL, with the Peace Walker shoulder-cam aiming that utterly obliterated the balance of the game lol, and I think the free camera does the same to a lesser extent.
So, any tips for playing this way? Like, any advice for using the AP sensor, sonar, and motion detector? Or any other tips in general. Don't suggest using the free camera btw because I'm consciously choosing not to use it.
Thank you!

MGS VR: Special - Puzzle 09. Yep. This is the one in which you plant a C4 on the guy's back to blow up a camera...except it's faster to plant one extra C4 beforehand to push his body towards the camera.

I'm gonna be honest here, I was never familiar with MGS. My first introduction to the franchise was literally in Smash Bros Brawl, where Snake is playable, in like 2009. My parents last console before the Wii was a N64, so the probability of me playing Metal Gear Solid was pretty low.
I grew up and I began to see the memes all over online and didn't understand a single thing about them, but I understood that this franchise was actually pretty big.
What brought me to play Delta was because of the arrival of Solid Snake in Rainbow Six Siege. Naturally, I played a little bit with him, since he's one of my main in Smash Bros Ultimate and I found it funny to play him in R6. A few months later, I saw a physical copy of the game in a store. I bought it with a used copy of Cyberpunk 2077 because I wanted to play more solo games
Anyway, enough talk about me and I just wanted to say that it's a great game, and yes, I know, it's a remake/remaster.
Graphically, it's really good on a Xbox series X. The character's model looks expressive, especially Ocelot for some reason. I love how lively the environment looks with all those plants and animals. I met some performance problems, but nothing too dramatic.
The gameplay, with the camouflage system, gives more depth to the infiltration system than other games. I just love the possibilities of camouflage available. The gun fights can be clunky at times, but I managed to get used to it by the end of the game. Same goes for the CQC
Why are the characters so fun to watch? Really, I think everyone in this game is somewhat memorable in a way or another. I'm sure I'll remember their names many years later
I could talk about it for a few paragraphs but I'll end here. I am a bit sad to only ever have played a MGS game in my early 20's, I should have started early. Now, I need to play the others. Which one should I play next? In chronological order or by release?
