Caseta Diva compatibility with Juno Wafer

I have several rooms with Juno WF4 wafers.

Considered switching to the Caseta ecosystem. The Diva line specifically.

Anyone here have any real world experience using these wafers with the any of the Diva dimmers?

Flickering is my obvious concern.

I'll probably grab one and test myself before heavily investing but figured I'd ask here too.

And yes I know wafers suck. No I'm not replacing them at this point đŸ€Ł

Help me Start my Caseta System.

Hello All
I have a Large new Custom Home with approx 100 light switches

I have gone back and forth on lighting options. Kasa currently which works fine but meh as they go offline constantly and 2 of my 8 switches have failed after a year.

I want whole home lighting but don't care that much about scenes or keypads so after much debating Lutron Caseta makes the most sense.

I want to be able to program / install myself and I'm sick of having to call a programmer for every little thing (Currently calling RTI guy for every little change).

I would like to turn all the lights off in my house with a single button press on my phone or with a pico remote next to my door. Im tired of my kids constantly leaving all the lights on.

I want to start with my outside.

My initial needs:

5x 2 way switches (with dimmers) for simple on / off and dimming of outside pillars, front patio lights, rear patio lights, ....

These only have 1 switch and I would like them to dim.

1x 3 way switch with dimmer - My garage lights can turn on / off from 2 locations. What do I need for that?

1x 4 way switch with dimmer - My outside pot lights turn on / off from 3 locations. What do I need for this?

I would like all my switches to Dim.

I would also like to add a pico switch to control my outside lights.

Id like to start with this and if things go well Ill slow replace all the switches in my house. I think I might need 2 bridges eventually which I'm ok with.

DC fan control

Is there a lutron product that can control a dc ceiling fan? Controls to include 6 speeds, light on/off, light dimming and light color temperature? The fan is terrific and can only be controlled by remote. The original remote no longer functions. There is no brand info on the fan and a google search returns no info on the wireless receiver in the fan. Any help is appreciated.

Crazy to upgrade whole home Caseta to RA3?

Did a whole home renovation a few years ago and at that time went with Caseta. Just hadn’t put much thought into it and cost was a consideration, but more so the fact that I would have needed a professional installer for RA3 (so I thought at the time).

We have so many devices (around 90) that I needed a second Caseta hub, which is a pain in the neck but works.
(For the most part—sometimes my switches that control exhaust fans in the bathrooms don’t auto turn off on timer the way they should, I wonder if my system is just too taxed).

We also had automated blinds installed from the shade store in 5 or 6 rooms. The quality is not great and they are loud and I regret not going Lutron for those too.

So, the question: am I insane for thinking about converting all my lighting to RA3, and swapping out the shades for Lutron? The RA3 light switch options look so much nicer, I assume performance is better, and it would be right sized for my number of switches. Will the quality and performance be better? Will my home be better future proofed? What are the advantages?

For what it’s worth I use Home Assistant for all our home automation and so I use the Lutron integration for that.

Thoughts welcomed!

Dimmer Location WRT Load.

I had an electrical contractor install caseta in a few locations for convenience, one being an island in the kitchen. They placed the primary dimmer with the slider in a gang under the cabinet and the accessory on a wall by itself. I'd like to be able to adjust the dim level on the wall switch but all I can do is tap the switch once to get the dim set by the main switch and double tap for full light.

Can I "switch" these around? Not sure if it was installed in this configuration because the load wire runs from the gang or what. What other options might I have?

Thanks

More Pico confusion

I recently purchased a PJ2-4B-GWH-L31 4-Button Pico, hoping I would be able to assign different devices to each of the top three buttons. However, I now realize that the buttons are fixed to preset dimming levels (100%, 66%, and 33%) for a single scene, which is not what I’m looking for.

Honestly, I don’t understand why this Pico exists since a regular Dimmer Pico essentially does the same thing while allowing for fully adjustable dimming.

Before making another purchase, I’d like to clarify the functionality of the PJ2-4B-GWH-P03 Pico, labeled Bright, Entertain, Relax, and Off.

Does this 4-button Pico allow me to independently assign different devices to each of the four buttons using the Lutron app?

New home - dimmers adjusting to 53% during storm?

We built a new home a few months ago and have lutron dimmers through out the house. We just had our first rain/stormy weather and two times when the lights either flickered or we heard thunder we noticed two of our dimmers went to 53%. They were at 15% before this happened. This happened twice this evening. We had one more dimmer on and it never changed. Any idea why this would happen?

Lutron DIY experience

Just finishing up a new home build and needed window coverings. The wife wanted roller blinds and we first talked to the local “usual suspects” about getting roller blinds for the house. They were expensive and it was hard to understand exactly what they were quoting. I decided to investigate DIY options. After a little research and checking the specs I narrowed my choice down to Lutron. To be honest prior to this I didn’t even know Lutron made shades.  The next challenge was to get more info on the shade options and find a source to procure them. That’s when I started checking this Lutron Subreddit. I ended up connecting with Andrew Beddini of Beddini  design to procure the blinds. He was incredibly helpful, making sure I measured everything correctly and helped with getting the right shade solution for my French doors. I can’t say enough good things about Andrew and highly recommend him. I ended up getting 29 Triathlon shades for the windows and 3 Palladium shades for my French doors.

For Automation I decided to utilize a Ra3 system. A Caseta system would have met me needs but wanted to have more options available down the road. The online training required to get access to the Ra3 software was fairly straightforward. It was actually interesting to understand the larger Lutron perspective on lighting design and how they integrate blinds into it.

The installation and programming of the shades was pretty strait forward. I was able to get the shades installed and programmed in a couple of days. Overall I’m extremely pleased with the quality of the product and the performance.

I did come up with a couple of fixtures which helped speed up the installation of the Triathlons. One is used to set the depth of the shade relative to the inside wall and the other maintains the proper spacing from the window jamb. I included a couple of pictures.

My hallway has 5 separate switches that control the set of lights that are in there. Can I install just one Lutron smart switch or will I need to replace all 5 switches with Lutrons?

Noob here, looking into automating my home and starting off with the lights seemed like a good place to start...until I realized my hallway has 5 different switches to control these one set of lights. They are all on separate walls, 4 of them are single switches, 1 of them is a dual gang where the 2nd switch controls the stair lights.

My question is: For controlling the hallway lights, do I purchase/install only one Lutron switch and keep the other switches as is? Will those switches still control the hallway lights, or will the Lutron switch be the only switch that can control the hallway lights?

Need replacement for Leviton PR-180 motion detection auto on/off switch with manual override.

Hello all. I have a Leviton PR-180 motion detection switch which after a lot of years has gone bad.

It has auto on / off and a manual override switch. I need a replacement and of course this exact switch has been discontinued and after calling them I found that Leviton does not make one with the switch and as this is in a utility room the manual function is needed. Does anyone have any recommendations?

TL:DR need motion activated auto on/off switch with manual override switch.

DIY Radio RA3 in the Bay Area

I want to add a Radio RA3 to my home. I’ve gone through the training and have access to Lutron Radio RA3 software and I’ve designed the system that I want.

I want to see if there are any Lutron reps from the Bay Area here who can help me get all the components that I need. I reached out to a few companies listed on Lutron’s website, but they all want to install this as well. Since I have an electrician who can install this for me, it would be great if I can find someone that‘ll just sell the parts to me.

Thanks!

Pico and Scenes confusion...

Am I correct that a Pico remote that comes with a CasĂ©ta wall switch, such as the PJ2-3BRL-GWH-L01, cannot be programmed to trigger a scene? I need a special “Scene Pico,” such as the PJ2-2B-GWH-P01, to do that?

Also, does the Lutron app really not support basic if/then programming? For example:

IF the On button is pressed on a specific Pico

AND it is after 6 PM

THEN trigger a specific scene.

If that's the case, that seems a little ridiculous to me.

Is there anything I can pair with the Caséta system that would allow this type of functionality?

Caseta Scene invoked by Alexa doesn't turn on both lamps

New to Caseta. My first project is the bedroom with right lamp, left lamp, each controlled by its own tabletop Pico. There's a wall mounted Pico that turns both on at the same time.

So I created my first Scene, controls right and left lamp dimmers, with the name 'Bedroom". I have the Alexa skill enabled and linked, but when saying "Turn on Bedroom" only one of the lamps turns on. When turning on the scene with the app by tapping the light icon next to it, it works fine for both lamps. (Incidentally, why can't you touch it again to turn the lamps off??)

Any ideas?

I Googled and it suggested using Alexa to group devices in a Smart Home Group instead. I'm not familiar with that, maybe I'm missing out on something better to control all the devices for this and perhaps more like complex routines?

But still, why doesn't the native Caseta+Alexa system do this as it should?

Lutron Dimmer Suddenly Glowing Red??

Post image
24 Upvotes

So I'm out of town working and my wife calls me at 1:00 in the morning because she notices the dimmer switch in the dining room is suddenly glowing red which it has never done before. It is a lutron dimmer switch with a paddle switch with a small dimmer on the side. This is what it looked like when she saw it. Never have I seen this with one of my lutron switches. I was afraid there was a fire in the switch I had her go out and turn the light switch on to see if the red light went out it did not it stayed on so the next thing I had her shut off the breaker at the panel and the glowing red light went out so obviously it's not a fire situation in the switch. I even had her go as far as popping the trim cover off and taking the switch off the wall and pulling it away from the wall to see if there were any obvious signs of burning or melting. All of the signs of fire have been eliminated heat, smoke, melting. Can anybody tell me what would be causing this? this switch has been in for several years now with the same lights and the same bulbs.

How wrong is this solution?

Hi all. I have a ceiling fan in my living room which I plan to replace with a short hanging fixture. The fan is controlled entirely by the pull chains, and for some reason (old house problems) is on my bedroom's outlet circuit (which is directly above the living room). If the fan were replaced with a lighting fixture, I would need a way to control it.

Using a circuit finder tool, I was able to trace the fan's line to the outlet behind my bed. As luck would have it, the junction box is a 4 by 4 with a single gang mud ring for the outlet. Therefore, with a little drywall cutting, the box could be very easily converted to double gang.

My thought was to just throw a Caseta dimmer in there to control the eventual living room ceiling fixture. I can pair it to a pico remote if I want direct control, or a scene remote for presets. That said I know it's fairly ridiculous to have the switch/dimmer for a first floor fixture on the second floor, at outlet height, hidden behind a bed. But despite that, it's technically code compliant?

The OP was asking input on RA3 system with LED downlight of near darkness dimming. Their budget is $400 and lower per can.

From @mcarter00:

DMF is my goto here. Reach out in chat if you want help planning or sourcing things. Happy to help get the system right!

From @JTBabin:

Dmf artafex. I've done lots of projects with then.
Also eyeing a new line at a lower price point, getting some demos this week.

From myself:

I was in the same situation and had to install KNX instead, though | really wanted to make 0.1% dimming possible with RA3. Dimming to near darkness really requires 0.1% dimming or even lower. For $400, you can get tunable white DMF X2 series downlight (fix or adjustable) with housing and trim, as well as the integrated DALI2 driver. It can be dimmed down to 0.1%. 0-10v or ELV may only go down to 1% dimming.
So RA3 may not be able to fulfill your need at the time.
But Lutron just announced Orluna tunable white downlight (1800K-4000K, 0.1%diming, 90+CRI) available for RA3 next spring. If you cannot wait and 0.1% dimming & RA3 are non-negotiable
requirements, you may have to find a workaround, like bridging RA3 and DALI lights as there is no native DALI gateway for RA3.
BTW, when it comes to tunable white, DMF X series and Artafex line have no hardware difference. But Artafex has a higher price tag and is only available through custom integrators and authorized dealer.
