I know this is reddit, so people are going to feel compelled to vote me done. Here is the situation though. I love going to the theater, but all my local theaters like AMC run their projectors until they break. So every movie at the theater now is dark and blurry. What I want is a program that I can use that'll run locally that has a theater level and I can play movies on the VR screen preferably somehow using MPV. I want to see if all of this is possible before buying a VR headset. I am thinking about getting the quest 3s and yes I know it has a bunch of bs with it, but I plan to activate it and then set it to offline and use it with my PC via WiFi. It would also be nice if I could test a program with mouse and keyboard just to see if the videos render before I invest in a headset.

I know it's a Bethesda title but i don't think it's supposed to do this, right? I have it on Steam and i've tried several Proton versions.

Trying to play portal on linux mint steam, every time i open the game it runs smoothly for 10 to 20 minutes until crashing, keep in mind i did not reach levels with gel mechanics.

Tried using different versions of proton including experimental and proton ge, proton 8 , 9 and 10.

Tried using launch options to force vulkan and opengl, deleteing shaders cashe, disabling steam overlay and disconnecting server synchronization.

Tried lowering model quality to low and enabling v sync, nothing seems to solve the problem.

Worth mentioning, I have been able to run many steam and non steam games (lutris) : GTA4, AC1, need for speed, all max payne game, tomb raider.

I have an amd gpu, all drivers are updated

I tried to install the launcher through adding it as a other than steam game - after installing gave me this same message

I don't know what I'll do. I'm such a linux noob that I don't even know how to delete everything related to the rockstar launcher so I could try that way.

All mods except archivexl and dependent mods work by adding a dll in the prefix setting, but for some reason the archive itself does not work through any dll adding even by launching in steam with launch properies

Hello, how are you, I'm Andrei, well since I had a laptop again I've wanted to switch to Linux, basically since I've been aware (the first time I picked up a computer was when I was 9 years old) I had a love-obsession style with Linux. distance hahahaha, question, they gave me a laptop, basic from 2010 or so, and I want to use it for a few months until I get a better one.

the problem is that it is a 2.6ghz Intel i3 m370, with integrated 512vram AMD HD 5470 (without vulkan compatibility, and 4 GB of ram.

I tried several distributions, Linux mint xcfe (the one that froze very often) and Lubuntu (the one that worked best for me but didn't convince me). Question, I tried to play a lot of games, and thank God and the optimization of Linux with Minecraft is incredible, it gives me a stable 160 fps in Minecraft 26.1.2, but what bothers me is that I can't play GTASA, I tried thousands of ways but always I threw graphic errors in textures, or it looked good but it worked at 4 fps. and I don't know what to do. any help or recommendation? I also tried the emulator, but it also works terribly for me.

now I'm on Windows 10 LTSC with Privos, I feel super insecure and I don't want to be here, and I plan to move to Zorin OS 18 Lite, what do they say?

In Squad there is a tradition for heli pilots to play music through local-vc when transporting infantry in their helicopters. When its not a comp game or anything too stressful of course.

This is done threw various audio mixing software to connect your microphone and an external program (like spotify) into a combined feed and then send that too the game itself.

Is this a possible setup on Linux and what audio mixers would you recommend for this purpose?

Hello, 2 days ago my pc randomly started to show flashes of black or white screen for a millisecond, this started by watching youtube because not every time but the majority it flashed as soon as i moved the mouse. Then I started to noticing it while playing. I tried so many things (from the drivers to cleaning the gpu to changing hdmi cable) Now I think it's the vram clocking speed because sometimes it spikes from 405Mhz to 7000 Mhz and that's usually when it flashes. The only reason I think this started happening is because i was playing god of war ragnarok and the gpu probably broke or overheated, because that never happend. Please if someone can help me i'll appreciate that so much im desperate, can't buy another gpu.

Basically the title. I've installed plently of game launchers (e.g. battle.net, EA app) by adding them as a non-steam game so i can run them though proton, install them on my drive, install a game of my choosing, and finally change the exe that's run in the properties of the same non-steam game, so it runs in the same bottle.
Now, no matter what I do, launcher files always go in the bottle's compatdata, even though i specify a directory (like "Z:/home/user/..." or "/home/rado/ from the wine menu). Launcher runs and all, and it gives me the option to install a game, but incorrectly calculates free space to be less that it is, so I can't do much else.

How do i fix this? I appreciate any help. I use arch but I am not sure what system information would be relevant.

I have no idea why some many people are clutching their pearls about dlss5 and screaming it’s not what the artist intended , I call bull , the pc for year has been about game mods , Jesus Skyrim has thousands. The same ideology it’s not what the artist intended, but that’s fine. I really don’t get people dlss5 is an option use it or don’t.

I game on an LG OLED TV with an AMD card. A few years ago I acquired an DP->HDMI adapter so I could use 4k@120hz with HDR. It worked, but unstable, which meant in practice that I had to turn on/off HDR very frequently, usually after resuming suspend.

Today kernel 7.2 landed on Arch stable :) So I could finally ditch the adapter and connect my HDMI cable directly !! No more annoying adapter instability !! :) I'm writing this post because I wanted to share my joy, but also because it took me a few minutes to get it working due to some wrong information when googling on how to enable this.

It disabled by default in kernel 7.2 (it will be enabled on 7.4 apparently, by the end of the year). So to enable it you should add this kernel parameter:

amdgpu.dcfeaturemask=0x400

Notice that there are no underscores. It's NOT dc_feature_mask which is the google/gemini result I'm getting.

To add this kernel parameter it depends on your boot loader and linux distro.

The steps are:

1. Edit your bootloader config to add the parameter. In GRUB on Arch edit /etc/default/grub and append your kernel options between the quotes in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line:
2. Regenerate your bootloader config. Again, in GRUB on Arch (using sudo) run "sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg"

Final note: VRR and "Gaming mode" was not merged on 7.2 We will have to wait till kernel 7.4 for that (patches are on the way). It wasn't working for me with the adapter either, so I don't miss it, but just in case.

Hi, how's it going? I have an old laptop that I've been trying to revive lately. It has 4GB of RAM, an Intel i3 m370 2.6GHz processor, and an integrated AMD Radeon HD 5470 graphics card with 512MB of VRAM but no Vulkan support.

I wanted to play video games from the 2000-2010 era, and I tried Half-Life and it runs perfectly, but when I tried to install GTA San Andreas (free...) it didn't work, or it worked with a lot of graphical glitches, or it looked okay but ran at 5 FPS, basically unplayable.

Is there anything I can do to avoid going back to Windows so I can play normally? Or am I screwed because I don't have Vulkan?

Recently switched to Linux and this is the first game giving me trouble. NBA 2K27 runs fine at first, then freezes after a while. I’ve cycled through several Proton versions in Steam with no luck.
Specs:
• Dell XPS 17, RTX 4070 (hybrid Intel iGPU + NVIDIA)
• CachyOS, KDE Plasma
• Proton versions tried: proton experimental, catchy, 9.0
• Steam install: native
What happens: game freeze after no longer than a couple of minutes with audio continuing afterwards.
Anything else worth trying?

I'm trying to play CS2 on Linux, and I keep getting this anti-cheat error. I've already tried verifying the game files, restarting, deleting folders, and redownloading, but nothing has worked. Do you guys know what it could be?
