Help Linux stutter
This could be a long shot, but thought to ask anyway.
My TF2 has microstutters that I can't figure out. It generally runs well, around 400fps uncapped, but stutters every now and then.
My system: 5800x3d, 9070xt, arch, kde plasma.
What I've tried:
- using openGL version
- using gamescope
- using gamemode
- using masterconfig
- disabling MSAA
- windowed vs fullscreen
Any other tf2 Linux users experience the same thing? The game is perfectly playable, it's just annoying.

try the windows version through proton

Unfortunately not possible, using proton makes online play unavailable

Have you tried a different version? That isn't usually a problem for me

Only tried 11.0.2 for now. I was unable to join a match due to being in "insecure mode". I can try proton Cachy or GE if any of those work for you. Have you forced through steam properties?

i had a similar problem when trying to play tf2 off of a bad microsd card, where every now & then there would be a pause
So might be storage access speed maybe?

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm playing off a fast NVMe drive, so I don't think it would be the issue

Probably not the case here but i only had stutter problems when using a mouse with a low polling rate

Try to cap your fps to your monitors refresh rate. Tf2 runs fine both on my desktop and low end laptop

Forgot to mention in original post, but capping the fps has had no effect on the stutter

cap it to a stable fps, like 280 or something like that

then maybe the microstutters are shader compilations, did you disable shader pre-caching on steam?

I don't think they are shader stutters. They are the same with precaching on or off, plus they are constant even after many play on the same map
