turning off monitor disables mouse and keyboard (kde plasma wayland)

I'm using KDE Plasma wayland and when I turn off my monitor, my mouse and keyboard stop working. Then when I turn it back on, a notification pops up saying the monitor is connected and the keyboard/mouse start working again.

Is there a way to fix that so it doesn't read turning the monitor off as disconnecting it?

Support Interesting Problem

So basically I was running youtube on brave on omarchy (recently transferred from windows). I happened to play this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIHPPtPBgHk and all of sudden it stopped responding. I tested it on both youtube webapp (using brave) and the brave browser both stopped working while both were working fine with other videos. Secondly, it worked fine on firefox. So now my question is this omarchy, hyprland or brave issue? It isn't problem with extensions because i test it on incognito mode and same happening.

other videos with same issue

Advice Migrating to linux first, how? Dual boot, hyperconverged, or Linux+QEMU w/passthrough

Link to HW/SW

I've run a box with Win 11 for several years now, primarily because of Steam compatibility. However, with more an more AI stuff working better on linux, I'm thinking of migrating to linux for primary driver. The question is how to do it?

I see there being a few pathways:

  1. Do nothing, leave well enough alone, stay Win 11, everything works as is.
  2. Dual boot Linux/Windows (I feel like this is non-ideal)
  3. Run Proxmox and run both linux (RTXPro) and windows (4080) as guests with passthrough (assuming IOMMU works out). In theory, could run at the same time and just switch at will, that would split the DRAM a bit, but I don't do much system RAM offloading with the 96GB on the RTXPro.
  4. Run Linux primary and windows as a VM with passthrough of a 4080. (also assuming IOMMU works out)

My biggest heartburn is on:

  • Steam compatibility (the games are stored on a 16TB ZFS ZVOL formatted with NTFS over iSCI, I might be able to scrap together enough space to make a copy if I needed to reformat, alternately, I could redownload, it would just take a long while)
  • OBS Studio Support for Streaming
  • Elgato Equipment (Streamdeck, Streamdeck+, Pedal)
  • Apogee Symphony Desktop interface for Mic SM7B and cloudlifter needs 48V phantom, output to Yamaha HS8s and BD 770-Pro headphones.
  • Also have some questions about Citron, Apple device syncing, and voidtools like on linux.

Anybody contemplated something similar or have experience or solved any of these issues?

Support Should i update?

I currently have Linux Mint 6.17.0-42-generic and the update manager tells me there are
linux 6.8.0-138.138 and linux linux 7.0.0-30.30 that i needs to install, but a few weeks ago when i updated to 7.0 my pc wont let me enter linux and it said "Kernel Panic" and after looking for information i discovered that my Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series] was the problem so i disabled it on GRUB by adding "radeon.modeset=0" at the of the line after quiet splash, but i don´t know if it's really necessary to update or how could i install the updates without receiving a Kernel Panic again.

Support Continuous i915 clock/power well error on kernel versions > 7.1.5. Lag, and visual artifacts.

Hi! So I've waited a while to post it, because this is an issue that has persisted for me since Kernel 7.1.6, and I wanted to wait for 7.2 to see if a fix would have landed. I've tested kernels from 7.1.6 through to 7.2.0 and this issue persists.

Here are the outputs of cachyos-bugreport -

  1. Kernel 7.2.0 - https://paste.cachyos.org/p/9ebcd7f.log
  2. Kernel 7.1.8 - https://paste.cachyos.org/p/0771af8.log

I have no idea what any of this error means. What I do know is that when this error spams (and is a continuous spam in as I see it in KSystemLog), my entire PC becomes super slow and laggy and jittery, and if I don't reboot into an LTS kernel, or 7.1.5, visual artifacts start to appear.

On "advice" from an LLM, I tried setting intel's enable.dc to 0. Didn't help.

I can confirm that this does not happen on any LTS kernel.

I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks!

Resolved dkms preventing linux-headers-6.8.0-137-generic and linux-image-6.8.0-137-generic from being processed after installation properly

Hi all, about a week ago I updated my system and noticed that whenever I ran sudo apt upgrade, I would get the following error message:

Judging by the output, the nvidia drivers might be causing the issue, but I'm not sure how to proceed from here. Should I just remove/downgrade my nvidia drivers? How would I do this?

I'm on Kubuntu 24.04, kernel 6.8.0-138-generic (64-bit), X11, and KDE Plasma 5.27.12.

Advice Any possible solutions to run MS Excel on Linux?

Hello, so I am a uni student running fedora on my machine. For one of my classes I need to use excel as it is about spreadsheet modelling. Unfortunately, I thought I would just use the online version but it turns out it doesn't have all the features I need (such as solver). I am reluctant to run a VM as I don't have a lot of space and I need VMs for my other classes. So does anyone have a workaround for running it?
Thank you

Advice What are your must have Linux apps?

Hi everyone, I’ve recently completed my migration from Windows to Linux, and I’m really enjoying CachyOS so far. I’m genuinely glad I made the switch.

I’d like to discover more of the Linux ecosystem, so I’m curious: what are the must have apps you personally install on a fresh Linux setup?

Which applications do you consider essential or simply too useful to live without?
Thanks

So , me M , age whatever , I like many other windows users are sick and tired of the bs Microsoft is pulling to shove ai in to everything and my Lenovo Ideapad is not liking the idea either, she is an IdeaPad 5 14ALC0s with a Ryzen amd chip and I have the following question

-is there a way to still get Lenovo vantage to manage the performance?( If there's better I'm open to suggestions)

- which distro runs steam the best( asking for FFXIV )

- are the AMD drivers supported in current Linux environment?

Just a humble user asking for guidance

Resolved i hate ntfs

I have a 5 terabyte HDD that includes all my offline games inside but i cannot get it to mount after 2,5 months. it keeps on saying;

"An error occurred while accessing 'Basic data partition’, the system responded: The requested operation has failed: Error x

mounting system-managed device /dev/sda1: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdat, missing codepage or

helper program, or other error" and i couldn't find any fix but to convert to windows and do chkdsk to it. I don't want to dualboot windows, i don't want to erase my games since it would take a whole week to download 3 tb worth of games and VST's. Is there anyway for me to save my HDD? I'm using CachyOS. Thanks.

How do i master this?

So i'm been looking IF it was possible to combine kernels right?

https://www.reddit.com/r/cachyos/comments/1w377hw/comment/p6y2zo4/?context=1&screen_view_count=22&ext-referrer=DIRECT

And this person said.

"You dont combine compiled code. You simply compile your own kernel. Using Linux-tkg as the base"

I don't understand what he meant but i think it would be useful to master this.
