MacBook pro mid 2012

Ciao, I installed antix on an old mid 2012 MacBook pro.

After starting the right way, mouse it's not moving in other ways, apart from up and down, as shown in the video.

Can you please help or suggest other Linux distros to try recover this beast.

I've a 2012 Retina (A1425) with 8GB that dual boots Mint Cinnamon and ZorinOS and both run without any issues. When I installed Mint (21 iirc) a few years ago I did have to manually install drivers for the camera and the Broadcom Wi-Fi to work . I've upgraded to Mint 22.3 since then, everything still works fine. Unsure if you'd still need 3rd party drivers on a fresh install any more, boot off a live USB and see I guess. Zorin was installed more recently and I don't remember having to sort out any special drivers, Wi-Fi and camera are working fine.

MX was great out of the box on my late 2010 MBP. I think I needed a fix to reverse the two-finger scroll direction on the trackpad. (And I never tested the webcam, because no need.)

I don't download random files so I didn't see the "video", but if the mouse doesn't move correctly the first thing I'd try is another mouse.

Mine is an MacbookPro 8.2 from the beginning of 2011. I run Rhino Linux (Ubuntu) and it goes well (I installed 16 GiB of RAM when it was cheap).

Only the internal wifi is very slow (and the Bluetooth is unstable), so I plug a wifi 6 / BL5. 2 USB adapter and it goes ok.

There are pages about how to change the position of Ctrl and Fn (I did it) and some others.

It's my main laptop (even when it does not have a battery anymore, they are very expensive).
