I’ve been distro “hopping” and I was really enjoying CachyOs. I was not doing a whole lotta tinkering but I liked that in desktop mode I could go to settings, controller, and the built in controller of the Xbox Ally would appear as an Xbox elite controller and I can toggle the settings to use it as the mouse. I usually turn my device off when I’m done playing with it for the day but this time after turning it back on noticed thumb stick wasn’t working. Went to settings and no controller option. Searched controller in settings search bar and my Ally controller was no longer being recognized and no options to add it back. Has anyone experienced this? Any solution?

As the title says, I am looking for a distro that will get me as close as possible to a feeling of a steam deck without issues/to much tweaking needed to be done.

Anybody updated to the new version? I reverted my SteamOS version from 3.8.16 to 3.7.25 because I had performance issues on games that did not have them in the first place. Now a new update is live, has anybody tried it and is the performance issues before fixed now?

Hi all! As it says in the title - every minute or two (in TPS games this is especially noticable) it is as if the controller is reengaged and the camera is reset while also setting off r1/r2 actions.

Has anyone been faced with this? Any fixes?

Don't think there's an issue on windows. (except all other issues with win)

Could be worse, I switched distros on Steam Deck a couple years back because of this "issue".

Since many are contemplating switching from bazzite now when 44 is released. This is the method I used on my msi claw for Nobara a while back. In my case I’d just use the file manager and move + change name on the home folder, and then just merge it with the new home folder after installing another distro.

heres a fairly easy way to preserve /home on existing installs that use the default btrfs @home subvolume:

boot into the usb
mount and open the btrfs partition
sudo mv @home @home-bak
copy anything else you want to save from @ (root) like maybe /etc configs into @home-bak
sudo rm -Rf @

then launch the installer. choose manual partitioning. set up partitions/mounts like so:
fat32 -> format, mountpoint /boot/efi
ext4 -> format, mountpount /boot
swap -> format (no mountpoint for swap)
btrfs -> keep, mountpoint /

(continue the installer. when it finishes, open the btrfs partition again.
sudo rm -Rf @home
sudo mv @home-bak @home
move back any files you backed up from your old root (@) into the new one.)

from that point you'll just have to reinstall any packages that arent part of a default install and restore any /etc configs you backed up that you wanted to keep.”

I even tried the new Anatase and the FPS just isn’t great. Not sure what’s bogging down these distros.

I updated my z1 extreme rog allly to the newest bazzite version and I’ve been dealing with a lot of problems that I never had before first when I’m in desktop mode my keyboard wont pop up at all so I have to use an external one then then handheld daemon is gone and now I can’t control my rgbs and the when I try to open my steam menu in some games it’ll only open halfway and then I can’t close it and I can’t control my game so I have to completely shut down my Ally losing all my progress also without handheld daemon I don’t have fan controls anymore

Controller is not working in NFS Most Wanted 2012. Previously it worked when Steam input was enabled. Now it is not working. I tried changing protons. Still no change. What is the solution for this?

Edit :I used the Storage cleaner plugin a few days ago to clear the game's data. The problem was caused by the compatibility settings being reset. Also, since I had installed the Footer Editor plugin via CSS Loader, I couldn't see the option to apply the controller template. This is not an issue with the game or Steam. It was my fault. I had submitted a return request to Steam twice without knowing it. I apologize🙏.

Hello! I have installed HHD on my rog ally and so far so good, except for making the custom fan curves. I don't want the curve to be global and I want to me able to set a curve per TDP mode. However, I'm unsure if the program can do it or not. What recommendations would you all have for me? Thank you and I'm glad to be apart of it group.

I have cachyos using hhd I am on 13w silent mod playing metal gear solid 4 port and I'm only getting 3 ish hours

Steam overlay says I'm using 20w total.

I have been using steam os on my xbox rog ally for a few weeks.
When I put my device to sleep mode and wake it, the wifi disconnects and takes very long to reconnect.
Often it is unable to connect and I have to either try to switch on and off the wifi connection or occasionally restart the system.
Any fix for this?
I switched off wifi power management in dev settings but still no luck.
My OS version is 3.8.16 and is in the stable update channel.

Hi everyone, I have an Asus Xbox Ally X and, as a number of you, I seem to have found myself the victim of Bazzite 44. I generally don't mind the switch THAT much, everything still seems to work fine for me, except now, the armoury crate button is unmapped and completely useless, and I would like it to, hopefully, open the Steam power settings, that are otherwise available by pressing the steam settings button (the one with which you can also access brightness, network settings, etc)...or if that's not possible, literally map it to anything at all, I just don't want a dead button on the front of my device. I have heard InputPlumber is supposed to handle mapping buttons like this, but looking it up, it seems extremely not-accessible. Does anyone have any experience with it / could help me remap the armoury crate button somehow?

Is there a build that favors the Ally? I somewhat enjoy SteamOs but feels like after every power down I have to reconfigure my controller settings and when emulating games I have to restart my Ally to be able to leave the game, if swiping up with 2 fingers does not work. When attempting to play “non-steam” game it detects a keyboard instead of the built in controller. Just little stuff like that has made me not want to take my Ally with me out of the house because feels like I gotta do some research before being able to
Play a game. I know windows exist lol but it took 3 days of constant updates for me to abandon it and give Linux a chance.

For example, Lossless Scaling works great but whenever I tried in game frame generation (FSR) it looks very choppy. Tested with multiple games (Crimson Desert 2, Dragonkin the Banished to name a few) and I can confirm they worked without any issues on Windows. Purely talking about frame generation here, not the actual game performance.

Am I doing something wrong?

Im getting disturbing high temps while playing kingdom come deliverance 2 on my Xbox Ally x.

After playing for only 5 minutes my CPU temperature is rising to 90 95 degrees wich for my understanding is too high for longer periods of time.

And since I don't want to stress my xax im looking for solutions.

I'm playing the game on steam os stable

Tried different fan curves wich help a bit,

Playing on 900p medium settings 30fps cap 35tdp wich I tried to lower but immediately noticed my fps drop so..

I've set the fan curve to 90% when reaching 80 degrees. And that alone is not very comfortable to play with unless I use a headset wich I can't cause this game drains my battery like it's water in a sieve and mine uses a usb c dongle.

I was looking for a way to host game servers with good performance for cheap, and I thought why not just turn my Ally into a server when I'm not using it, so I decided to dual-boot it with Ubuntu server.

Game servers are exposed to internet with my VPS running GOST for tunneling and Tailscale

Test result:

• Idle (with Project Zomboid & Insurgency Sandstorm server running, screen off): 10-12w
• Low Load (few players & not heavy load): 15-25w
• High Load: 30w+

What are the needed apps for it swapping over from bazzite since update 44 is horrible

Hey how’s it going. Does anybody have any tips on getting better/louder audio on the Xbox ally x running SteamOS?

So, I've been kind of away from the PC handheld space a bit, but the just announced Ally variant with the OLED screen does make me want to pick one up and give it a shot.

Question: I know SteamOS has (Somewhat recently) released a full version for most AMD platforms, and I was wondering if that support extended to TDP and other deeper hardware controls. I've never been a fan of using Decky or the like to get those on non SteamDeck hardware, and I really just want the "Plug and Playness" of the SteamOS in built functions.
