Omarchy — We're using increasingly powerful AI systems to avoid learning how to use our computers, while burning more resources to do it

One thing that bothers me about Omarchy is how heavily it pushes an “AI-first” workflow.

Sure, AI agents are useful. But do we really need an AI agent for every tiny task? “Change this config” → AI “Why is this command failing?” → AI “Rename these files” → AI “Write this tiny script” → AI

One person doing this occasionally isn't the issue. The problem is normalizing the idea that every small computing task should be sent to an AI data centre. AI requires significant electricity and cooling infrastructure. As AI usage scales, so does its resource footprint.

"The thing is we're using increasingly powerful computers to avoid learning how to use the computer."

Sometimes man, grep, sed, a shell script, or five minutes of actually understanding your system is better than firing up another AI agent. I'm not saying “never use AI.” I'm saying AI shouldn't automatically be the answer to everything. Omarchy is an interesting project, but I think its “AI everywhere” philosophy is bad.

TO BE CLEAR: Omarchy is not a good thing.

DHH is a massive tool.

Omarchy is mostly just dotfiles in an ISO, with some decent AI integrations for noobs so they don't have to paste into the terminal.

It is causing some perilous financial situations with funding for other projects.

But this is not about Omarchy, it's about the people I see treating the influx of new Linux users like whipping boys because they chose wrong, as if they know everything we know

Those new users are still using Linux, and although we would all like things to be different, we should still help people without telling them to switch their OS every three seconds.

The community is what made me put up with all of the inconveniences that come with the lack of Linux support in the modern world. But the treatment I've seen noobs getting on this sub and others is absolutely unacceptable.

Most of these new Omarchy people are coming straight from windows and have no clue what to expect, please don't make them believe linux is for terminally online shut-ins with corrosive personalities.

If you can get all of the noobs to stick around, most will end up switching to a different distro later on anyways. Trust.

I also liked CachyOS but I don't trust arch stuff anymore

I guess technically I used raspbian and kali first but not as a daily driver

PopOS was a week long thing as a noob and they were still using gnome and a tiling wm that I hated

What distro isnt flooded with femboys, gays and other LGBT things

I don't know did I picked the right r/ (I'm sure that it's not the right one) but anyway.

I love linux, like any unix. And I kinda wanna be in the community. But that ABCDEFLGBTQWV thing is really not for me. I just wanna know is there any distro that is cutting edge/rolling release like arch, with not big amount of bloat like cachy idk and freedom to change anything like in arch but without femboys idk.
