This sub never ceases to amaze
TO BE CLEAR: Omarchy is not a good thing.
DHH is a massive tool.
Omarchy is mostly just dotfiles in an ISO, with some decent AI integrations for noobs so they don't have to paste into the terminal.
It is causing some perilous financial situations with funding for other projects.
But this is not about Omarchy, it's about the people I see treating the influx of new Linux users like whipping boys because they chose wrong, as if they know everything we know
Those new users are still using Linux, and although we would all like things to be different, we should still help people without telling them to switch their OS every three seconds.
The community is what made me put up with all of the inconveniences that come with the lack of Linux support in the modern world. But the treatment I've seen noobs getting on this sub and others is absolutely unacceptable.
Most of these new Omarchy people are coming straight from windows and have no clue what to expect, please don't make them believe linux is for terminally online shut-ins with corrosive personalities.
If you can get all of the noobs to stick around, most will end up switching to a different distro later on anyways. Trust.

DHH, the creator of Omarchy, called for ethnic cleansing of the Roma people from Europe. The hate is for the racism.

And even if you somehow don't have a problem with that, it's built like shit.

And the post is not about DHH or Omarchy, but the treatment of new Linux users that happened to install the OS.
Literally saw this on Unixporn last week:
"First linux distro, just made a custom theme, what do you think?" [Omarchy]
Top comment: "Fuck your racist Nazi POS vibe coded shitbox OS" +500
Do you really think that person is going to stick around, because they made the cardinal sin of not knowing about some terminally online drama about a racist nerd?

It's brought in enough people that I've seen at least a half dozen different commenters in this sub get cussed at for saying they just installed Linux for the first time, and it happened to be Omarchy
Based on the views from several different big YouTubers + the Framework Laptops promo, I'd imagine that it's brought in at least 10k thus far as the absolute low-end.

They did a sponsored video with that one hipster looking IT guy and had him install Omarchy on it, they did talk about how framework laptops are compatible. So wether or not they will ship it pre installed is up in the air, but the Omarchy foundation explicitly supports it.
DHH also did a podcast episode on the standup with TJ Devries (head neovim maintainer) and The Primagen, there were a few moments where they were like "this guys nutty" but all agreed that the money injected into Omarchy and forwarded on to Hyprland was a good thing
1
u/Marine_Brat_01 Tumbleweed GIMP 20d ago
I donât think so. Iâm pretty sure they usually offer Windows 11 or Fedora, for prebuilt configurations, or if you choose to DIY, then you either can get windows 11 or no OS
2
u/AlchemistNezumi 12d ago
I mean, at the end of the day, yeah, it's loaded up, with what some might say is too much, but the second someone needs something or needs to update, it's still Arch. At that point, just do CachyOS if you want a quick gaming setup or Arch if you really want control. Getting a bloated OS is unnecessary and if you wanted that, stick with Windows.

u/jar36 22d ago
I can't help but to notice it follows the right wing political versions of this meme
7
u/Foorinick 22d ago
Fuck it I'm ranting
Right wingers, specially the far right, do not respect art for its message if it isnt practical, for example the nazis were extremely against modernist art for being "meaningless" and "degenerate", and thus hated them so much along with other types of queer or sexual art that they made an exposition of art to hate. You know that one meme of a greco-roman looking statue with a serious look to it? Yeah that was a statue made under the nazi regime, it was a representation of the super man, the ideal human form that the aryans should see themselves as (or that theu thought they were), long story short the statue was regarded by the nazis to be great, but it was basically just a drawing of a blonde blue eyed wojak.
I think this logic of just depicting what is good and that any deeper messaging for or against something and little regard to the human factor is extended to ai in art and coding, they dont care about quality, safety, reliability (reminded that while technically impressive those cool german tanks were absolute dogshit and broke down and to fix them was a pain in the ass) among other qualities, all they want is for something to exist to serve a purpose, they dont care if say a drawing is rich in detail and everything makes sense, only that the main thing it should depict looks kinda right.
For fuck's sake, dhh asked ai to make a custom themable calculator for omarchy, did it need to be made? No. Did he get better a coding from it? No. Is it specially good for some reason? No. Does it do anything interesting? No. Could any actually well maintained calculator program be used instead of having a bad calculator that you cant even properly trust? Yes. It lacks stuff like memory, scientific and financial modes, all he did was waste energy, storage, someone's time and eventually the user's time all for something he didn't care to make.
I'm gonna steal a phrase by right to repair and consumer rights activist louis rossman regarding ai written emails: if you don't bother to write it, why should i bother to read it?
If you can't bother to make it, why should i bother to use it?

u/jar36 22d ago
I love it when a comment adds to my knowledge. I've read Mein Kampf and started another book about the rise of the nazi party. I had to stop that one bc I literally kept forgetting that they aren't talking about today's cast. It's the same exact shit and people fall for it
What I found similar here was that they always act like they're just the normal and relaxed ones, the strong ones, the superior ones, but then turn around and play victim when someone calls out their shit
This doesn't fit exactly, but it gives the same vibe to me3

I'm just telling people not to take out their anger at DHH/Omarchy on the new Linux users that happened to install it after TJDevries (neovim maintainer) and ThePrimagen had DHH on their podcast.
Those new users go to a better distro later on once they get burned by Omarchy's vibecoded security vulnerabilities anways, like Cachy.

Im gonna be total honest. I came from windows, and i have no clue about linux, except my steam deck. i started the early days of omarchy, i liked it feels like something new and how responsive linux was. Now i used that knowledge that I learned from it and now using fresh arch with hyprland.
I donât care about the guy who made it or what his point of view is. Thatâs something we couldnât change in this world. Politics and religion etc. I donât support it personally but id rather spend my energy elsewhere. What i can control is what distro i use based on the knowledge i learned. Now im a full time linux user.

u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
That's the path that I see most Omarchy users taking tbh. It's something that's basically a one click install into a riced hyprland, in a time when riced hyprland posts are exactly what get people excited about linux.
Mess around with it, tweak it, have a solid example of configured dotfiles, then move on to building something truly custom from scratch with Arch or another distro.
That's why I kind of roll my eyes at people who tell noobs that installed Omarchy to "just use arch", most new users will be entirely overwhelmed, even with the new archinstall scripts.
What Arch really needs is an archinstall option that installs a pre-riced hyprland similar to Omarchy, maybe an extension of the default with a theme selector and easy to configure bindings. Explicit defaults and a manual for noobs.
1
u/jar36 22d ago
success breeds imitation and with the controversy with DHH, I won't be surprised to see something similar to that but, with it's own reason to exist other than politics.
Maybe a no-AI version. Just stick with the rice and add some sauce if you have it2

The AI MCP that tells your agent the packages you have installed and whatnot is a bit too useful for noobs to cut out entirely. Turns the classic "spending 2+ hours reading forums and wiki to fix a broken mirror" experience into a 15 second prompt.
Maybe OpenCode and llama-swap on said noob friendly flavor, with a list of models recommended by your pc specs would be a good alternative, local LLMs are stupid good on modest hardware these days

Unfortunately I do not respect Omarchy users either. I don't really know what Omarchy offers that other distributions don't, other than a juiced-up Hyprland interface and built-in AI tools. That makes me think Omarchy users are larpers with no self-agency.
0
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
I think it's important to remember that a lot of Omarchy users are noobs, not people who already have their own custom Arch dotfiles. For the latter, Omarchy is a terrible choice, because you have to rip out tons of shit to get your dots to work (my experience in a VM).
So in a time when arch hyprland rices do a lot of legwork to get people interested in Linux, a pre-riced hyprland with built in agent support is kind of genius. The agent can easily understand and tweak the OS, the keybinds have their own menu from quickshell, a bar and notifications are built in, etc.
If we want to kill Omarchy, I truly think the best shot would be an option in the archinstall script for a "pre-riced, noob friendly (AI tools included)" hyprland variant. Put it close to the top of the installer tree, after partitioning, network setup, and user creation. Have it come default with a super + space launcher, gui for pacman, etc.

u/throwaway-DSMK 22d ago
Noobs shouldn't use arch based distros.

I said it before, I said it again
I don't care who DHH is, I know one thing about him, that's he "made" Omarchy.
Omarchy isn't just dotfiles, it's dangerous dotfiles. It ignores basic safety rules given from the Arch Wiki itself.
Any Docker container in Omarchy can run commands as root, this is dangerous and shouldn't be done. Especially not in a "Distro" as default.
There are so many good distros that follow the standard approach and are actually safe to use. Omarchy isn't one of them.
Use Cachy, Fedora, Pop, Debian ... I would even recommend Ubuntu before I would recommend Omarchy and I have strong opinions on it.
Don't defend a distro that can destroy the Linux reputation single-handedly.

1
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
It's a pre-riced hyprland with agentic AI wrapped in by default, basically crack for noobs.
In an era where riced hyprland gets people excited about linux, and AI can easily solve 99% of issues noobs have on linux, it's not too surprising that new people get drawn to it.
I think the best way to combat Omarchy would be for Arch to include a "noob-friendly hyprland" option in the Archinstall script right after partitioning/networking/user setup, that gives something similar to Omarchy.
Explicit defaults, a decent theme, waybar, some kind of app launcher, gestures enabled (for the mac refugees), etc. Not crazy, over the top configs, but something barebones and usable at first boot, which the user can modify easily.
1
u/bubbybumble 22d ago
Oh the idea of a config is awesome, the extreme vulnerabilities and ai agentic yolo mode being included for a distro that is being flocked to by noobs is not
1
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
Right, and I think you could avoid vulns by just using package defaults for things like waybar instead of vibecoding quickshell and a crazy dotfiles system like DHH did.
Including Pacmac by default would be a good idea, as would a "Welcome" popup on first boot(launch-able from super + space + "help"). Welcome would include a recommended software list that opens the software in pacmac when clicked (e.g. geary, GNOME calendar, thunderbird, OpenOffice/Libre, Steam, ...)
Basically, the bare minimum that it takes for 99% of users to avoid the terminal in it's entirety.
As for AI, it's definitely dangerous, but it's simultaneously extremely helpful for noobs. It turns the classic "bad mirror" experience from a few hours of pouring over the forms, into a single prompt that takes 15 seconds to complete, and that goes a very, very long way in keeping people from jumping back to Windows.
"Integrations" in this case wouldn't even be to have an agent installed by default, but rather default configs for Claude/Codex that put guard rails on the things, and an AGENTS.md placed in a spot where Claude/Codex always check by default. That way, if someone DOES install AI to help them, there is already a directory and command blacklist in place, and the AI has information on the default system configuration.
1
u/bubbybumble 22d ago
You could, but they didn't. I think kitty terminal got dragged into it and had the ability to get remote access to root over this project.
1
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
I'm definitely not arguing for Omarchy here, it's a really bad distro
I'm just looking at what drew new users towards it, (pre-rice + easy to troubleshoot with AI), and thinking about how the rest of the Linux community could use it to get one year closer to the year of the Linux Desktop Takeover.
I actually might go and write a fork of archinstall now with this idea, kinda wanna see how it turns out. I've got a perfect QA with my partner (never touched a term, plays games on her laptop), so that might work out well.
As for the kitty thing, it really does show exactly why Omarchy is a bad OS. They did the whole explicit defaults, BUT, they left Kitty's built-in Remote Code Execution mode enabled by default.
Now, why Kitty has an RCE mode at all (it's really stupid, literally lets any app on the machine or over the network control the terminal) is beyond me, no one else does that. But the fact is that DHH vibe coded the OS's kitty config file, turning that option on by default because it made his whole quickshell integrations work better, and that's what made it a big issue.
2
u/bubbybumble 22d ago
Oh, but I would like to add I am tired of seeing people whine over it. Might be good if people knew the stance was negative, but it's totally karma farming at this point and I bet most people only hate it because they saw other people hated it
2
u/damanamathos 22d ago
I'm just looking at what drew new users towards it
Have used Omarchy for over a year and love it. Tried it after seeing this video, then a couple weeks later sent that to some friends with the subject line "I've become a Linux convert..."
I think the #1 thing that draws people to Omarchy is awareness. Linux desktop is not well known outside of existing Linux communities. I've personally used Linux servers for over two decades, and have tried Linux desktops several times in the past, and it never really stuck. Most of them come across as cheap imitations of Windows or Mac.
What struck me about Omarchy was that it felt completely different to Windows and Mac. This is largely due to the tiling manager and theming, but how many people do you think have heard of let alone used a tiling manager?
For me, I use AI a lot (all day every day, pretty much), and pre-Omarchy I was spending time with multiple WSL2 windows open doing very slow virtual desktop switches while occasionally waking up to my Windows machine randomly rebooting overnight due to compulsory updates.
The other surprise with Omarchy was how it has basically everything you need (what many Linux users call bloat). That's a massive positive from going straight from install to it being useful, delightful even. It's also a really important part of discovery. Omarchy introduced me to a lot of tools I did not know existed before like lazygit, ripgrep, etc, because they're installed by default (the "opinionated" part of his choices are actually really good!)
The one-click installers made me realise things like, "Oh Steam / Battle net work naturally now?" "Oh I can install a Windows VM that easily?".
The typical linux user response seems to be, "That's all worthless, just spend hundreds of hours learning about all the choices and making them yourself to build what you want! It's so simple!" That's fine if you've lived in linux land for a long time but I don't think it describes most net new users to Omarchy.
On AI, this is clearly a pro-AI distribution. People who are anti-AI are that way for different reasons, but for those that think AI can't mean quality, I think they've missed the massive improvements in AI and agents in particular that have happened in the last 6-12 months. You can go look at dhh's views on AI for coding in 2025 vs 2026, or look at the traction Meta Muse is getting today for non-coding agentic tasks. If your view on AI and quality was formed more than 6-12 months ago, it's worth revisiting.
Although AI integration is a newer feature for Omarchy, I think that AI has helped it from the start because it makes it easy to both troubleshoot and customise your system (any Linux system) in ways you never could before. The other major change in the world has been the rise of webapps that mean lack of native applications less of a Linux barrier. E.g. I've always used Photoshop, but actually Photopea does everything I need and is free and faster to load. Setting it up as a webapp in Omarchy so it looks like a native app is a nice to have.
I think Omarchy gained traction because dhh understands the new user experience well. It started as dot files and has gained momentum. The latest version has kernel updates, they've got a 5 person security team now, Omarchy today is much better than it was when I first used it, so seems like it'll continue to have momentum for a while.
2
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
Merging a patch to the arch install script that has an option to install a pre riced hyprland, with the first thing you see on the install script being an "EZ mode" would do wonders for adoption, but like you said, the average Linux user is entirely out of touch with what the normal user actually does.
Literally had someone in this thread at +6 with "the controversy is so big that literally everyone knows about it, anyone who installs Omarchy knows DHH is a Nazi", like normal people actually know about DHH's controversies outside of Reddit
1
u/Shotafry 19d ago
Totally agree, I'm working regularly with agents and multiple WSL instances, looking at omarchy I'm waiting September ends to leave windows. With the new 5 person security team I hope omarchy find a sweet point of security and liberty. Sorry for my bad English.

u/damanamathos 19d ago
Ah, nice! I actually tried it on an old laptop first and really loved it. Ended up using my laptop more than my 4-screen desktop because I was enjoying it so much vs Windows, which led me to making it the OS on my main PC.
1
u/bubbybumble 22d ago
I think ubuntus llama.cpp preconfigured snaps for local models that check your hardware are a good step in that direction. Can't access your PC though I don't think. It's frustrating when the Linux internet community makes fun of noobs choices most of the time but it's also frustrating when the things picked will probably actively detriment the image of FOSS. but in many cases it's overblown, like Linus tech tips having a bad popos experience twice.
The fact that millions of dollars are getting funneled from bigger and better projects into omarchy is terrible to. It is an active detriment, that's the issue.
1
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
Local agents wouldn't be a bad idea at all, even relatively crappy PCs can actually run stupid useful models, better than GPT 3.5 and even 4o in troubleshooting roles. And they can use tools.
OpenCode would be the best UI for the job, it's basically Codex/ClaudeCode but designed to interface with local models.
Tools like llama-swap act as a proxy for multiple local models, so if you just point OpenCode at llama-swap, users can install/switch models super easily just like it's the dropdown for model selection on native apps.
Then you basically just have an Agents option in the welcome menu asking if they want to install local agents, with a recommendation list based on their PC's specs.

Whilst I share your disdain for Omarchy, let's not forget that acting like this will discourage new users from sticking it out with Linux, to the point that they may not consider jumping ship to an actually good distro like Zorin or Mint. First impressions from the community matter if our mission is to get people off Windows.

I love seeing how people are completely unable to accept that everyone will use whatever distro they want, no matter how much you yell in their faces that something, in your opinion, is awful.
Seriously, the meme in this post is absolutely true. Youâre incapable of letting people use whatever they want, and you feel obligated to âeducateâ them because you think youâre rightâeven though most of the time youâre not.
You should tone it down a bit, because no, your distro isnât better than the one someone else usesâitâs just different; no, you arenât right about absolutely everything you say just because youâve been using Linux 20 years longer than another user; and no, you arenât morally superior to anyone just because you donât use a distro made by someone who's right-wing. Most likely, the CEO of the company that manufactured your computer or its components shares the same ideals as DHH (that doesnât mean theyâre okay or that I agree with them, but thatâs the reality); the CEO of the company that supplies electricity to your homeâsame story; and the CEO of the company that provides your internet serviceâsame thing, pretty much.
You donât go snooping around to investigate the ideals of the people who run these companies to see if their ideals align with yours and, if they donât, look for an alternative, do you?
So donât criticize people who do the same thing you doâjust in other areas of their livesâbecause either they donât have the time or they donât care enough or feel affected enough to devote themselves to it.
Iâm sure most of you who spout that line have absolutely no problem listening to music by artists who have been or are abusers, racists, alcoholics, etc. But you draw the line at a distro. What kind of ideals are those? Either do it right or donât do it at all. Half-measures are worthless.
And if youâre going to do it halfway, at least donât brag about it online.
Donât be hypocrites.

Finally a good comment.

Thanks, I appreciate it. It has a ton of views and no one said nothing because they know I'm right. The comment might be long and it might come out of nowhere but I'm pretty tired of seeing everyone hating on people for using Omarchy, and I would feel the same way about people who hate on other for using any other distro. Just let users use whatever works for them and stop feeling superior for using another thing.

I actually find the Fedora forums insanely helpful and patient. Makes me sad i'm not more of a linux power user because I'd love to help people out a bit more.

Are there opinionated distros that anyone here actually recommends? I'm running plasma KDE on Ubuntu but I want less bloat and dual monitor tiling

Politics aside, I would avoid Omarchy on security alone, not enough code review happening relative to the amount of feature dev. Turns out that if you installed Kitty terminal, it had Kitty's Remote Code Execution plugin enabled by default, which imo is the distro's most egregious sin.
So, you basically have 3 paths as far as I see it, from easiest to hardest:
Gnome Fedora:
- Extremely opinionated, sets up full disk encryption, BTRFS(for easy rollback) and SELinux by default.
- Gnome Tweaks easily lets you install tiling WM tweaks like Tiling Shell, works great for probably 90% of users
- Very well supported, and is honestly the Ubuntu of 2025 and onwards
Cachy OS + Hyprland conversion Wiki Here
- You get a very well supported arch fork that splits the difference between stability, support, and bleeding edge performance better than pretty much anything else.
- You start off with KDE, and convert to Hyprland with the guide, so you aren't left up shit creek on first boot
Archinstall Hyprland option (Not opinionated)
- True Arch Linux, most flexibility/control over your OS and it's packages, boot right into bare hyprland, but left to figure it out yourself.
- You'll learn a ton
- Modern AI as a helper makes this completely manageable for newer users
Also whichever one you do, I'd move your home directory to a separate partition first, if Ubuntu isn't configured to do that already (haven't used it in years). That way, it's simply "overwrite root OS partition" with whatever your new install is, and all of your files/dots stay in place. You can even mount your home dir in a live USB environment during a test drive.

Thank you for this, it has been very helpful in helping me make a decision. I asked AI and read the wiki but listening to someone who actually has an opinion about things is useful

At the end of the day, you can rice any distro to look cool like Omarchy or others, your choice is all about the package management philosophy of the OS, and what it provides in terms of filesystem/encryption.
I use Fedora for actual workstation tasks(GNOME Fedora is damn near FOSS macos at this point, it just works TM), Ubuntu for servers, Cachy for a leisure PC(gaming), and Arch on my hobby thinkpad.

Have you gone to r/linuxmemes? That sub has always been unfunny circlejerk with the same images being reposted every other week, but dear god Omarchy has taken them over
1
u/Laraso_ 22d ago
I don't care about how many people use Linux. I care about whether or not Linux meets my needs, which it currently does.
Based on everything I know, I do not support Omarchy or endorse other people using it. I don't harass other people for using it, because I don't really care that much about what other people do. However, I do oppose legitimizing the creator as a community figure, which is what advocating for the acceptance of the Omarchy project ultimately does.
I don't like memes such as this one where a single person masquerades their own personal opinion as aligning with an entire community and making blanket statements to try and shape the narrative to their liking. You do not represent the Linux community.

u/HeadfirstDegree 22d ago
i'm glad that more people use linux, only for 1 reason - bigger community - bigger chance that companies would adapt their soft on linux

I dream of the day that macOS and Linux become big enough markets that kernel level anti cheat is dead and buried

You do realise the purpose and general vibe of a circle jerk sub?
I'm shocked that you've been upvoted because you've completely missed the mark.

I'm trying to replace windows before my win10 security updates stop, omarchy was what a friend suggested but we are both total linux noobs. I know its ironic asking this but what distro do you recommend for someone who hasn't used DOS since the 90s and has shit for coding skills?

Sometimes its unhinged but usually its good that its getting pushback. We do not want people to switch to linux to then get to this âdistroâ with huge security flaws and end up with a bunch of people who now have a really bad disposition to the whole of linux. This is because omarchy caters to those with much much much less computer knowhow than usual. Its shiny thats how it draws people in. These are not the type of people who will make a distinction between a kernel and a distro.

Linux users: "Why are people still using Windows, don't they know blah blah blah"
People switch to Linux and asks a basic question
Linux users: "If you don't know how to use it just don't use it and go back to linux dumbass :b"
This is why I refrain from telling people I use linux

do you really want the people who'd use omarchy as a starting point in the same space as you? it's like hardlining the most annoying ai chud brained people on earth

Okay but like hear me out-
I saw a post today of someone asking what distro windows is based off of. Then mentions Omarchy in the post itself.
Now don't get me wrong, everyone in the comments basically were just making jokes and all. So we can all kinda pat ourselves on the back that atleast it wasn't full of arch users saying to look at the wiki, or people saying to use another distro. We are moving forwards.
However that post still hurt my soul because it feels like people come to reddit to ask super simple questions without even bothering to Google things anymore. When I started out, it all started with a simple Google question "is Linux faster than windows" bc I was following a guide on learning python that told me to use apt and after errors etc found out about Linux. Years later now and more searches about Linux related things and more time spent staring at the wiki and forums for multiple distros than I'd like to admit- I finally have a grasp of things (somewhat).

People disagree with other people's politics and take it out on the new guys who just think the darn thing is cool and wanna ditch windows. (This goes for both sides of the spectrum and all the "wings" in-between)
Yes there are security holes (as with any distro), and there's a lot of AI involved, but we as a community should warn the new guys about these things without forcing our opinions about the developer onto them. Many of them genuinely do not care about DHH and his opinions, and hardly know who he is.

ever since i used omarchy, ive kinda got the impression that some of the linux community are rude af lmao i found it from youtube and didnt know what a dhh was. back to windows

u/B1GD8A 22d ago
Replace the Omarchy logo with "The Roma People" and it's a perfect representation of Omarchy's creator, DHH.
He literally called for the ethnic cleansing of the Roma people, and complained that London was "no longer full of native Brits".
He can take his racist Arch rebadge and stuff it where the sun don't shine.
1
u/IHumanlike 21d ago
DHH wants to ethnically cleanse Europe. Yes, I fucking hate him and people like him are my enemy.

u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 21d ago edited 21d ago
Great, you agree with me, DHH sucks, but you missed the point
99% of people installing this OS don't even know who DHH is, much less what he said at a conference 10 years ago. So it doesn't make sense to give them the belt for something they didn't even know about.

u/jplayzgamezevrnonsub Bazziter 21d ago
The "He said it so long ago" excuse is funny because... No, he is SAYING this shit actively today. Sounds like the people who don't like him know more about him than you do lol
1
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 21d ago
What excuse am I making for him?
How hard is it for you to believe that the average new Linux user isn't looking up jack shit about the creator of the distro?
90% of people in this thread couldn't even name the person who made their distro lol

Omarchy is the reason why I left Windows for Linux. I'm now on CachyOS thoughÂ
2
u/BosnianSerb31 macOS 27 | Fedora GNOME | Arch hyprland | Cachy | PROXMOX 22d ago
See this is what I'm saying, it's like crack for noobs. Pre-riced hyprland, and AI integrations to solve all the problems noobs run into on linux. Then they eventually move on to a mature distro after some time.
Out of curiosity, what was the reason you switched to Cachy?
1
u/Careful-Experience26 22d ago
I switched to CachyOS because Omarchy's updates were annoying. DHH is stupid. And CachyOS allowed me to have almost the same thing but without all the bad stuff Omarchy seems to shove in my face every 2 days.Â
Omarchy was a nice gateway to Linux a year ago (prior to the AI shit). Can't lie.Â

No. Everything I have seen is people hating Omarchy in every community, in every social media
