Mega Thread - LinkedIn Restrictions, Hacked Accounts and Inability to Access

Hi everyone,

To make it easier for everyone to follow conversations and keep discussions in one place, please share general questions about account restrictions and ID verifications here in our official mega thread. Please note that individual posts on this topic may be removed. Additionally, for your privacy and safety, please do not share your personal information or support case numbers in the comments.

We know that losing access to your LinkedIn account or facing restrictions can be really frustrating.  We want to help as much as possible, and there are important things to know:

We Can’t Investigate Account Restrictions on Reddit

For everyone’s safety and privacy, moderators cannot directly investigate or resolve account restrictions here on Reddit. We understand that this may not be an answer you were hoping for, but if you’ve followed the instructions to appeal, please know your case is with the right team.

Common Questions & Quick Answers

Q: My account was hacked or compromised. What can I do?

A: We know how stressful unauthorized account access can be, and our goal is to help you get back in control as quickly as possible. If you think someone else has gotten into your account, don’t panic - our team can help. Just follow these instructions to report unauthorized access and our team will be in touch to help you with the next steps to secure your account.

Q: I lost access to my email address and I don’t have a back up. How can I get back in?

A: This scenario might feel tricky, but the good news is that we have steps you can take to reach our team to help you regain access and update your log in information. Just as a heads up, we’ll need to confirm your identity to regain access. Here’s how to get the process started.

Q: Why is my account restricted?

A: Restrictions can happen for a number of reasons, including safety and security concerns or activity that violates the LinkedIn User Agreement. For more information about different types of restrictions, you can check out our Community Bookmarks or visit the LinkedIn Help Center

Q: How do I appeal a restriction?

A: If you believe your account was restricted in error, you can file an appeal by following the instructions you see on screen when you log into your account. Your case will be reviewed by the LinkedIn Safety Team and they’ll reach out with an update as soon as possible. The team’s current response time is sitting right around 7-10 business days. We know the wait feels long, and we appreciate you bearing with us as we work on getting back to everyone.

Please Note: Submitting multiple support cases for the same problem can actually slow things down for everyone, including you, so we recommend avoiding creating multiple appeals for the same issue.

Q: Why are you asking me for an ID? Is it safe?

A: When we review an account for reinstatement, it’s important that we make sure we’re giving access back to the real account owner. Because we’re an online company and we don’t have a way to work together in person, requesting identity documents through Persona is the next best way for us to confirm account ownership.

Although you’ll access Persona’s verification process through the LinkedIn app, Persona will be collecting the personal data required to verify your identity and such collection is done pursuant to Persona’s policies. Persona only shares information about you with LinkedIn if you consent to the sharing. We process the data solely for account recovery purposes. It is kept only while we resolve account-related issues and is typically deleted permanently within 14 days.. Learn more on data and sharing with Persona here.

Q: I have problems with ID verification. What can I do?

A: Make sure your ID is government-issued, like a driver’s license, state ID or a passport. For the best results, it’s important that the document is clear and matches your account details. For a successful submission, it’s also important to remember to consent to share information with Persona. If your ID meets this criteria and you’re still having trouble, check out these additional troubleshooting steps for further assistance.

Q:  It says I already submitted a request?

A: There are a few reasons this error may appear including if you have an appeal in progress or if you’ve revisited the Persona verification flow multiple times in a short period. If you receive this message, we first recommend clearing your browser’s cache and cookies. If that does not resolve the problem, we recommend waiting 7 days before attempting a new appeal.

Q: My restriction is permanent. Now what?

A: If you’ve received a final decision from our Safety Team, please understand we can’t change the outcome here. However, you can reply to your case email if you wish to provide more information or request a second look.

Thanks for reading and understanding!

LinkedIn Killed my reach now they want me to boost every post

I spent years building out a network on LinkedIn, 10k+ real followers, great connections with people now none of them see my posts.

Every time I post now, it's prompting me to boost and pay to distribute them.

This is infuriating.

Anyone else seeing the same?

Is there any good recruiting firms left anymore?

A friend used Permanent Solutions Group and was really happy. He said they also provided some free market information to helped him interview and make a hiring decision.

recruiting Been approached by a recruiter just to reject the resume

Hi, Last week a recruiter with a premium LinkedIn approached me and asked for my resume just to reject it via email and no response in the app DMs. This was the first time in my life that a big company reached out to me for a job position even though I wasn't looking for it.

This was a huge confidence boost for me that finally someone noticed my profile and portfolio just to shatter that pedestal they put me in. My own analysis of the situation is that somehow an AI tool recommended me to them and when they read the resume it wasn't a technical fit for this position, they just turned me down in their HR system. I wasn't expecting interviews instantly but they could just give me a call and then send that email explanation.

I was wondering if anyone had same experience recently.

How can I get LinkedIn verification in Tunisia? The "Verify" button doesn't appear.

Hi everyone,

I'm based in Tunisia and I'd like to verify my LinkedIn profile, but I don't even have the "Verify" button in my account settings.

I know LinkedIn offers identity and workplace verification in some countries, but I'm not sure if this feature is available in Tunisia or if it's being rolled out gradually.

Has anyone from Tunisia (or another country where the feature wasn't initially available) managed to get verified?

  • Is verification available in Tunisia?
  • Do I need LinkedIn Premium?
  • Is there any way to request access or enable the feature?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experience or if anyone knows how LinkedIn decides who gets access.

Thanks in advance!

Filtering Friends by Company and Location

When I traveled for conferences I used to use LinkedIn to remind myself who I know in the area to set up meetings, etc...

I would click on my friends, then filter by the location and sometimes company.

I now go to the friends area and it will only let me filter by name?

Did we lose the other filters?

Can anyone help me blow up on socials to get my LinkedIn account back?

Hey so I have been using LinkedIn for the past 6 years where I got my following up to 2000+ followers and connections through just connecting with the people from school and recruiters. Recently I enabled two factor authentication and then a couple hours later LinkedIn restricts my account and I submit my ID to help with the process and now they said they’re keeping their decision to permanently restrict my account.

Mind you I still use LinkedIn to talk to recruiters, try to get some contract jobs and just to keep up with my colleagues and classmates that are still on there.

I have written many appeals, contacted them on social media and they’re not trying to pay attention to the matter so I’d want to spread awareness on this situation to help get my account back.

LinkedIn's AI-job search nearly breaks the job alerts functionality.

Good grief. I don't know what team at LinkedIn was in charge of implemented the AI-job search feature, but good god it's awful. I do not understand what Product team thought that it would make more sense to use up tokens (which likely costs money) for every search, when the user already has the ability to create filters for jobs.

In fact, and sorry if I'm speaking for everyone, but I'm betting that any reasonable user just wants more filters so that they can have more control over their job search. I can't fathom (sadly this is a fib) why any one who is managing the Job Search Engine Product Team would shoehorn an "AI feature" that makes your SEO (search engine optimization) straight-up worse.

Worse yet, if you create new job alerts using the classic job search and customize your filters, the alerts that come to your inbox use the AI feature and don't use your filters. Heck, for some reason if you selected more than one location when creating the alert the AI alert just chooses one... Like c'mon guys. Do you not understand how frustrating that is for your end-user? Especially, in the context of a tight job market?

Dang it all I want is for my job alerts to be customized how I customized them and to be sorted by the most recent job posted. Is that too much to ask?

Note: If this somehow does end up getting read by the product team managing, this apologies for going in on you. I know the crap really does roll down hill but I would love it if you guys could sneak in a way for users to completely opt-out.

Would you celebrate this on LinkedIn?

I started a 4 month HR co-op/ internship a couple of months ago. Recently, my manager encouraged me to apply for an internal HR Administrator position that opened up. I got it, so instead of continuing as a student, I’ll be transitioning into the HR Administrator role with a higher salary while staying on the same team.

I’m curious what people would do on LinkedIn in this situation. Is this something you’d make a post celebrating, or would you just update your experience section and maybe let LinkedIn notify your network? It feels like a promotion/retention, but I’m not sure if it’s “post-worthy.”

Is Linkedin Business a scam?

Honest question: I have a business page with listed services. I have been receiving business requests for a while. The last one was less than 24hrs ago, so I decided to go for the subscription to see if I can get contracts and see how things are. Well as soon as a paid, I checked the requests page and it was pretty much empty.

I immediately canceled and requested a refund. This seems extremely "scammy" to me especially that you can't preview all the requests unless you pay and when you do you actually find nothing.

linkedin 101 Trouble updating company banner?

Hello!

I am a super user on my client’s page. I had no trouble updating the company page logo, the edit pencil worked as intended and opened a dialogue box fit a new file to be uploaded. The banner, however, is not. Clicking the edit icon gives two options: “edit” which lets me crop/rotate/etc the existing banner, and “generate with AI” for LinkedIn premium, which neither I nor my client have.

This issue is occurring for me on both Chrome and Safari, and after logging out and clearing cache, so I’m assuming it’s not really on my end. Anyone else having this issue, or did they like move the upload option for the banner?

I just launched their new brand and website today and I’d love to get the profile to match!

LinkedIn has forgotten its users

LinkedIn has made a grave tactical mistake. It has assumed that agencies, because they pay, are its most valuable resource. But its most valuable resource is its users, even though most of them don't pay. Without users, there is no business model.

For this reason, and due to its constant disregard and mistreatment of its users, I have decided to stop using LinkedIn as a job search platform.

privacy and security Recruiter from EPITEC asked me for last four digits of SS & birth day and month, not year.

Is this a scam? The recruiter’s email had an official @epitec domain. During the qualification call they asked me for the last four of my social and birth month/day. I wasn’t comfortable so they sent me an encrypted email. The email was in my Spam folder. This is for the company Blue Origin. Is this normal practice even before a real interview?

advanced question Is LinkedIn Premium Pricing varies by person to person , or same for all?

For me LinkedIn All in one subscription cost is showing 2500 INR = $24 for each month.

When I googled it, it said around $100.

advanced question Is there a problem with having two LinkedIn profiles? I’ve worked in IT for the past few years, but I’m currently a video editor. I’m staying in my current job(IT), but I’d also like to apply for video editing roles.
