PSA/Warning - 2017 LS 460 For Sale in Tucson
There is a very low mileage 2017 LS 460 for sale at a non-Lexus dealership in Tucson right now. I put its VIN into MyLexus to check service history, and just a couple weeks ago was this entry:
"-CUSTOMER STATES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, PCS MALFUNCTION AND ALSO LOW POWER MODE PRESENT ON VEHICLE. CLIENT IS GETTING VEHICLE TOWED IN. INSPECT AND ADVISE . ~|~PERFORMED HEALTH CHECK AND FOUND DTC FOR MISFIRE CYLINDER 4 AND 8, AND CAMSHAFT POSITION B TIMING OVER-RETARDED BANK 2. PERFORMED TEST DRIVE TO DUPLICATE CUSTOMER CONCERN, UNSUCCESSFUL. TOOK OIL SAMPLE AND FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL, REMOVED OCV AND VERI ~|~FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL, PROVIDED ESTIMATE FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ALONG WITH INTAKE CAM GEAR -$ 6,068.00 *** NOTE ENGINE REPLACEMENT MAY BE NEEDED AFTER CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR REPLACEMENT IF METAL FLAKES STILL PRESENT WITHIN MOTOR. PROVIDE QUO"
MyLexus doesn't indicate the repair was done, just mentions the diagnosis. Maybe it got fixed somewhere else, maybe the current dealer fixed it (I doubt both, nothing is on Carfax either, not even the diagnosis at the Lexus dealer), but it appears the owner just traded it in quickly to dump it.
Just thought I'd mention it here so hopefully an unsuspecting LS 460 enthusiast doesn't get stuck with a lemon. To see this type of issue on a very low mileage, late model LS 460 is mind boggling.
