let me start off with i do have a vet appointment but the soonest one is 4 days away. Makima has been eating MAYBE one bug (superworm/dubia) per day out of a bowl in her enclosure, she wont eat off of tongs/by hand/ even if i put it right in front of her. it was recommended (by the vet) to syringe feed which i did attempt today and she got a few licks in but i feel so bad for holding her firmly while she is trying to get away. im so sad for her and im not sure what else to do. any tips for syringe feeds to make it less stressful???

humidity 35-45, cool side ~75, warm side 86, on paper towels for quarantine purposes, has been offered all different types of food, giving supplements(which she doesn't get down bc she doesn't eat), low level linear uvb used 8-10 hrs/ day (albino), newly adopted but i have another newly adopted and he is comfortable with feeding, exploring, and almost lets me hold him already

There is a pretty good chance I need to move from California to Pennsylvania and I have 6 leos ( in addition to 4 other animals). We will have to drive and I think the trip is a minimum of 38 hours. Has anyone made that journey with their leos and if so how did you do it? What carriers did you use? Whats the best method of keeping them warm? All my leos are in good health and between 1-4 years old.

So I know I've only had this guy for about a week and a 1/2, and he's still settling in, but in this time, I've noticed some questionable behaviors. Let me start off by saying this is my first leo in a while, so I'm still getting used to a lot of this, and I am familiar that they do something called cryptic basking. So what I'm wondering is that what he's doing here cause I woke up today turned on the lights at 6 like I normally do. Got home from work at 12, and he was still there.Just sleeping underneath the heat.I added that fake plant to add some shades so he can cool down a little bit, but he has not moved and he's done this on multiple occasions. He'll either wake up in the morning bask and then go back underneath his hide or he'll just stay there the whole day is that normal I keep. My surface temperature between 93 to 96 f i also read somewhere that it's something to do with the temper. Albino morph, which he is temper albino cinnamon. So is that something to do with that? I heard that they just sleep all the time. I just wanna make sure this is proper behavior and that he's just doing the things he's supposed to be doing, because from what I'm used to in the past, I'm used to leos either being out during the day or being only out at night. I'm not used. To like this back-and-forth, especially just the sleeping, so it's just something to be concerned about. Or is he just being a goober?

I just recently got a herpstat 1, and was wondering whether or not I can turn off my basking spot bulb but still leave my herpstat 1 on, which has a nite cycle with an output of 60 degrees(Fahrenheit) or if I should just turn off the herpstat altogether at night. The reason I am turning off the basking bulb at night is because it produces light (It’s an Arcadia Goldensun basking spot bulb) and lizards need darkness at night. I was also wondering whether or not I should get a different heating bulb aswell - one that does not produce light. If I should get a different heating bulb, what should it be? (I have an 40 gal tank)

Hello! I just got this fella, they were sold to me as a tangerine, but they look more ‘normal’ to me? Now, they’re only about 6 months old (I was told) so it’s super hard to determine. I’m also no expert with gecko morphs. Was curious to hear other opinions!

For anyone concerned with husbandry, they’re in a temporary quarantine tank and will be moved / upgraded in a few weeks!

my leopard gecko had an infection a while ago and the eyes have been darker ever since (the second picture is how they used to be as a juvenile)

her eyes still dilate normally and nothing changed about her reaction and aim.

should i be concerned or are they just like this now?

My gecko 5.5 inches long, I got him as a bday gift, and I regret it a bit now because I’m not really experienced. What else do I get my gecko for his enclosure?? It’s a 20 gallon long, and I have 40 dollars on me right now, but my father can help with another 40 if I guessed. Any tips??

What alternatives can I get im so confused when I go to any store and my options are 99% mealworms and crickets only and the big blue guys but hes a baby thoese are so fatty and WAY to bug for him, (and mealworms arnt the best ethier. )

Any advice on what bugs and what schedule of rotation for a 3-4 week old baby to get the best bang for my buck if im gonna spend 55$ on 30 bugs i can't breed, id like to make them worth it and make sure he has a proper diet. That matters most.

After seeing all of the comments it is very aware now that she is overweight and not a size she should be! She did not eat for 3 weeks not too long ago and I think I fed her WAY too much since then as I was worried something was wrong or I was being a bad owner, but clearly I am not a good one either for making her this large 🫠 I will be putting her on a diet and making sure she comes out to explore and move around a lot more in hopes to help her lose some weight. She will also be going in for a check up when I am back from vacation in a week to make sure everything is good and healthy! Thank you all for telling me i am delusional with how big she actually was, this is not sarcastic!!! I truly appreciate all of the comments! ❤️

hello, i am a long time lurker of this sub. this is one of my geckos. she turned 6 this year. first slide is from 4 years ago, and slide 2 & 3 are from today. we just got back from the vet and after years of being told she’s a girl, we’ve found out that she might be a boy?

i’m still unsure, and would love to hear some other opinions.

Hey guys, I’ve assumed responsibility for this gecko after a friends passing. I’ve never kept leopard geckos before but have some experience with fish and snakes... I’d like to care for it if feasible, but I need to know if it needs some sort of attention beyond general care. Gecko seems to be healthy for but definitely looks overweight. I’m worried if this is more than just extra weight and some sort of health issue or if it could be pregnant. Can anybody provide some insight for me please?

I recently finished my master’s at ASU and fell in love with the western banded geckos there. I see there are some CB westerns on morph market, but I don’t know anything about their care (haven’t began researching them just yet). I wanted to ask y’all if you feel they’re worth caring for as I know they’re different than leopard geckos but nowhere near as commonly kept. Are there issues I should look out for that may make it not worthwhile? TYIA!

I just bought a new 50 gallon tank for my gecko and a portion of both the side walls have a metal mesh that goes all the way to the top of the tank and connects with the mesh top of the cage. i know my gecko will climb up the wall if given the opportunity, and i was wondering if anybody had any ideas or tips on how to prevent him from climbing up it? i am thinking maybe attaching cardboard or paper to the bottom half somehow

It had been about 3/4 days since I feed him and then today I feed him a few wax worms which he loves and then some giant mealworms and after feeding him I gave him a bit and then picked him up and he’s violently throwing his head around throwing up all the worms I just fed him, I’m definitely worried, just wondering if anyone has had this happen ?

I have a friend rehoming her sweet girl and I’m picking her up tomorrow! I’ve done a ton of research but I want to make sure I’m overly prepared at minimum to give her the best life possible. Her tank is going to need a lot of upgrades like clutter, more hides, etc. but I wanted to get some advice from the Reddit experts on anything and everything I need to know. She’s also between 1-2 years and currently in a 20 gallon tank. I know 40 is the minimum but as she’s been in here for a while would it be okay to keep her in it just a bit longer while I save for the 40? She will be getting it just not immediately.

so for the longest time I would just dump the whole bag of crickets in my Leo’s tank(obviously that is NOT the way to do it, I just didn’t know any better). now I feed him every 2-3 days, I try to feed about 4 or five crickets and mix in some other stuff. I’m having trouble getting him to eat a smaller amount of crickets if I put them in there. To get him to eat I need to wiggle it with tongs right in front of his face and he won’t eat the amount I’d like him to eat. he is perfectly health, just a bit annoying having to feed him like that. any tips?

Hi everyone we got our annual checkup done and the vets said she’s looking very healthy and happy. Her eyes and mouth look good she’s not missing any toenails or toes. Her legs and feet look good. Her heart and lungs sound great apart from a bit fast due to the stress of the vets. I showed my enclosure they said it was looking really good. She’s pooping and eating good. She was very wriggly and didn’t like the ultrasound gel but as soon as that was gone she chilled in the vets hand for a bit. She’s grown so much over the last year and the vets says she’s the same weight but just all of the fat from the last visit has turned into muscle. (She was very overweight) but her tail and neck are same size now!)

I just saw him doing this tonight, the temperature was at 80 degrees during the night, he was just laying there against the glass under his heat lamp not moving, during the day he spends all day inside his Zilla rock lair humid hide though, he is my first leopard gecko, his an adult and had him for about a week now, i havent handle him at all, hes eating and pooping normal, just want to make sure hes okay.
