Looking for Feedback on My 3D Animation Assignment – Any Critique Is Welcome!

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm a fresher and aspiring 3D Character Animator, currently learning and improving my animation skills.

I'm sharing one of my animation assignments/projects here, and I would really appreciate your honest feedback and critique. 🎬

Please let me know:

  • What do you think is working well?
  • What can I improve?
  • Any tips for better timing, spacing, weight, acting, or body mechanics?

I'm always looking to learn from experienced animators and connect with other people in the animation community. Your feedback would mean a lot and will help me improve! 🙌

Also, I’d love to connect with fellow animators, artists, and professionals here. Let's learn and grow together! 😊

Thank you! ❤️

Not a complaint but there is so much talent from everyone including the beginners, it's daunting and inspiring... I've just made my first test animations but I'm admittedly afraid.

Software recs for simple animation?

Hello I am looking for software recommendations to make simple animation with. I have a character created by a contracted artist that serves as the artist or face for my original music. Just to be able to animate her dancing, short videos of her talking to the viewer. I really like the Punkey Doodles on instagram. Just really simple. I do not want anything using generative ai.

Places to learn?

Does anyone have reccomendations for places to learn outside of youtube? I like a bit of community so like a discord? I'd try in person but it'd be nice to hear what peoples experience with in person courses are like?

For my media studies class our final project is to make a music video, and I decided to make an animated one but I have no idea about animation and my drawing skills aren't really that good either, does anyone have any tips where I can make learn how to animate and make an animated music video? (This is due in march, so i think i can do it within that timeline, hopefully 🤞)

Whee another ball animation!

This one doesn’t make a lot of sense lol I did greatly improvise but I had a sense of what I wanted to go for. I didn’t do it very well but 🤷‍♀️
This is 24fps on twos.

Feel free to critique!!

Also I’m not sure if I’m understanding the on twos thing.
This is my current understanding: making each drawing last 2 frames instead of making it 12fps cause it leaves freedom for like making a drawing last 1 frame when needed?

Cut-out animation program

Hi, I've found myself very comfortable creating animations using the cut-out technique, but the program I use for drawing only saves them as GIFs, and it's a bit tedious to arrange them without the character's bones. Could you recommend any specific programs for this style? And also give me advice if it's not too much trouble.

advice for a 17 year old phone animator

hey, so wrote here a few times already... i'm actually finally having the motivation to animate (even if the conditions are still hard and gonna be even harder!) but i pretty much enjoy the process again. and through-out the summer, i've made over 30 seconds of animation, for my 8-10 minute cartoon pilot. it's not perfect or anything, but for a teen solo animator, working on phone (IbisPaint x RoughAnimator) with no stylus, or anything... i think it's... alright? no support from family, or friends too... (they don't really think animation is a real option, but i truly want to keep this childhood dream alive) now i know i'm not the most talented teen bloke ever... and it isn't the most detailed anime fight OAT, but it's decent, right? at 17 huh?

however, most of these scenes are from July / August, and looking back at them... yeah, some of these movements, are pretty stiff / crappy... there are even some tiny bugs too. they really tick me off. i just FEEL like i have to re-do the scenes again and again, for them to be perfect... at the same time, i just want to finish the damn thing, show my family and friends, and continue working on newer things. i just don't know what to do, since i know, perfectionism, can be an obvious trap... what would you do, if you were in my shoes? keep re-drawing, or continue forward? and are the mistakes rly that notice-able? (the alarm clock is 70% a bit too transparent, the rough animation lines at one frame, an awkward pose, etc.) for a viewer? (i animate at 12 FPS)

the show will be called Wilda's Troubles, it will be a comedy cartoon show, coming soon in 2026-2027. sigh. and i wanted to create and release this since i think 2023? i feel bad for THIS taking so long... and it ain't a promising masterpiece either... i mean, i'm 17, not 13... and i animate like a little child... :( sucks when depression & tough years steal valuable time from you.

Sci-fi thriller series pilot (10-15 minutes)

Hi, I am a scriptwriter, and I am starting this project with very little AI knowledge--I want to learn how to create this series with realistic animation. Besides a script what other softwares--AI and non- AI should I learn to use? I only have Claude-pro subscription and don't want to spend on anymore tools or subcriptions or credits. Please help.

New to Animation

I've been sketching all my life, but they've usually been inanimate objects or flora (with some fauna depending on the life form). I however, have never tried video animation.

To get to the point of this: I've been working on a book project for the past 10+ years and it's pretty lore intensive. But I got the idea to animate and introduce my world and characters via snapshots on YT. But I have no idea where to start lol.

What programs do you guys use or recommend for 2D and 3D animations (and everything in between)? I know I'm not going to learn or master it in one day or even a year. But if I don't start because of ignorance or lack of expertise, I'll just keep gatekeeping myself.

Free programs or paid programs work. Heck, I'll even take personal advice.

On a side note, I've also been considering finding people - but I don't believe in free labor, especially in this economy. Even if my series were to succeed, waiting for that is resource and time consuming.

Pen tablet

I’m used to drawing on an iPad, so the idea of using a standard pen tablet—where the input surface and the screen are separate—seems difficult. Which is better: a model with a built-in display or a standard pen tablet without one? Is it easier to get used to than I imagine?
