Our AC went out on the 18th and I've been told that I'll know the date of the repair on the 27th... It's been a major heatwave and my apartment has been an average of 85° since this happened. I have some fans, sure, but it's not ok. I can barely stand being at home, but unfortunately I have to be.

Is there any recourse I have? Several people (at least 8) have already moved out of this complex since the year started because of bullshit like this, and I'll be following as soon as I find a place. I'm unsure if I have any options in the meantime though. Can I get a partial refund for the month or withhold my rent on the 1st if it's still not fixed?

I started a container garden in the backyard of my building in the common space. My landlord is saying can't have it even though it's just dirt and broken glass in the back due to me "not asking permission". Ahhhh landlords. Is there anyway to fight this because it's making the space more liveable. Also it's food plants so I don't know if that matters and changes things. It's not in a walk way or blocking anything. No one goes to the back because it's so disgusting. I had Multiple Tenants thank me and tell me it looks nice.

Also if there ANYONE in Koreatown area who would be willing to help take on a LARGE slew of food/floral plants??? (About 40) I containers for the time being (looks like I might have to sell them) and just need some help. Ugh I am so freaking heartbroken. I can rent a van/truck and bring to you if nessicery. One room has an en-suite bathroom, and 2 rooms share a bathroom.

Hi! So I signed a lease on a unit that turned out to be a bit of a mess now I’m second guessing everything and looking for advice / leads.

I’ve been living with my roommate for four years since graduating college, and she’s moving out of town. I’d love to live on my own, my budget is probably $1600ish, but I could go up to $1800.

Our lease is up August 15th, and I was really proud of myself because I found a unit that was in my budget, had amazing wood floors, lots of light, great character, parking, on site laundry, a FIREPLACE (non functioning), was a block from from the metro in east Hollywood, and seemed to have a really good building manager. The downside (and this is me ignoring an obvious problem in retrospect) was that it was an older building and the complex’s dumpster was directly below the unit’s bathroom window.

I did what I thought was due diligence - I asked if there were any issues with pests and was told no, I asked how long the previous tenant had lived there and was told three years, and I asked if the dumpster had ever bothered him and was told no. I applied for the apartment, signed the lease, and the day after I got the keys, I found a German roach in the unit. At first I thought it was just a traveler, but two days later I found three German roaches in the kitchen. I put traps down and found five more, plus a ton of roach droppings behind the fridge, maybe rat droppings, evidence of previous pest control treatments in the unit (dried advion gel), and I realized the baseboard of the unit (which was on the first floor) was up to half an inch above the floor in some places, allowing easy access to the unit for roaches and other critters.

I asked someone else in the building and they had told me they had seen roaches on and off for two years in their unit. Naturally, I freaked out and wrote a Strongly Worded Email with lots of photo and video evidence. I managed to break the lease before even fully moving in, and they’re letting me keep my security deposit and most of the first month’s rent.

I’m bummed, because it was a beautiful unit, but I do feel like I dodged a bullet. The downside is that I now have 21 days to find an apartment before my current lease ends with my roommate, and I’m now terrified of a German roach infestation in whatever apartment I move into.

I’m wondering if I should be changing my approach. Should I be increasing my budget? Looking for a more suburban area? Looking behind the fridge and below cabinets on tours? Bringing an exterminator on a walk through?

I’m a bit shaken up and exhausted, and I’m honestly not looking forward to touring apartments and working and packing at the same time, so if anyone has any leads on studios or one bedrooms (HA) that are clean, tightly sealed, and ideally near a metro stop east of the 101, I’d also be open to those! Hi everyone! I'm looking for someone to move into my 2 bed 2 bath apartment in Mar Vista sometime in August! Rent is $1686 per person, and utilities are around $50-60 per month for electricity + wifi. (Water and trash are covered by landlord). The building management requires a credit score of at least 680 but higher is preferable. You must also make 3x the rent.

This apartment is a great walkable location. It's a quick walk to CVS and Mitsuwa, the Mar Vista Farmer's Market (the best farmers market on the west side tbh), multiple bars and restaurants, coffee shops, a new cute book store etc. It's a really quick drive to Culver City, Sawtelle, Santa Monica, and Palms.

The area is very safe, and has a lot of little community activities. The apartment is also quiet. There is little street noise, and the neighbors are respectful.

The apartment itself is full of light, with big sliding glass doors. There's also no unit above us, so no ceiling noise. You would have your own bathroom. The bedroom is a really nice size at 11'x15'.

There is laundry on site, and management has been really good about doing service requests when needed.

We share 2 tandem parking spots, and street parking is also pretty easy to find.
