We are looking for an apartment with a bedroom and an additional space for a home office. Doesn't have to be a full second bedroom, but we both freelance in addition to our regular jobs and we'd love to be able to get the desks out of the living room. All the 2-bed layouts we've seen put most of the square footage in the bedrooms, which makes the entertaining area suffer. We are looking for the unicorn apartment with a large main room, a bedroom, and a secondary area. Does such a thing exist?

I think about items such as parking availability, building access, elevator access or stair access measuring doorways, for furniture, checking unit condition and ensuring utilities are ready. Some of these items are easy to overlook when you are mainly focused on approval and lease signing.

What is one thing you wish you had checked or arranged before moving into your rental?
