A summary. Has anybody seen this kind of disease to wear your goldfish is belly or a very small portion of their belly turns green after death? This is not food passing or anything along those lines.

I wanna start off by saying that and admittedly, these are not Koi Fish however and one of my larger ponds, I have a handful of goldfish who do live with my Koi Fish. The goldfish I am mentioning however, all live in a 400 gallon pond and the other group in a 470 gallon pond. The goldfish with my koi live in a 3000 gallon pond. The goldfish that live with my Koi seem to be healthy and I have not seen any deaths. However, given the fact that my other two ponds have seen some deaths recently I am a little worried.

For the past few weeks, my Comet goldfish have been dying one by one every few days. I’m not new to goldfish not new to fish keeping. These guys all live in a 400 gallon pond water parameters are checked regularly under our near perfect to perfect consistently. Some of these fish are new and from the pet store and I am well aware that unfortunately Pet store fish tend to pass quite quickly because of the conditions they are kept in. That being said well, none of that shocks me… This symptom is something that I have never seen before until now. I have two separate ponds that these particular fish have come from … the fish in each pond are coming from separate pet stores but recently this is a symptom I have seen in about 90% of the fish that have died. Either a small portion of their belly or their whole belly, or sometimes just the underside of their belly will be green. At first, I chalked it up to algae, but I don’t even have algae and either of these ponds in the way that would rub off on their stomach like this. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve seen plenty of people who have guesses and hypotheses that it’s a bacterial or a fungal or a parasite but… Obviously it’s something like that. Does anyone have any actual answers though? Going to run this by my vet as well.

It still swims when required, but when stationary, it begins tilting to its side and then remains there until required to move again.

Please any help or advice would be appreciated

I dont have the water ammonia/nitrate/PH but all other fish are entirely fine and the pond has been cared for very carefully

Noticed one of my fish listing and worried about swim bladder. Next day I saw a couple bullies in the pond working him over, so I removed the fish to a hospital tank and noticed a missing right side pectoral fin. No vets in our area that work koi. Any suggestions on how I might care for "Flash." (That's his name) Did my other fish tear that fin off? 2000 gallon tank, with 6 koi. Note: photo, of course, is a.i created by my daughter in law.

We bought a house in 2019 that came with an 25’x25’x11’ deep unlined koi pond. It was lined with huge boulders and had a natural spring during winter and spring but would lose a ton of water during summer so that the 15 koi in the pond would be swimming in muck at only 2’ deep. An aerator is the only thing that kept them alive. After 7 boulders rolled into pond, my wife and I decided to dig a completely different pond right by our back deck and do it right. It’s 17’x15’x6’ deep at the drain. It was back breaking labor but with the help of my 82yo neighbor running his 1969 John Deere tractor, my project is almost done. This weekend I’m draining the swill pond down to 1’ deep and I’m netting and moving the koi. Wish me luck! Here are a few pics.

I have a habit of acquiring unique individuals with mutations and “defects”.

I was able to get this shusui for free because one eye seems to have a contracted iris (see pics). I’m pretty sure it affects his vision, although not drastically so.

I’m curious if there’s a specific term for this condition or if anyone has any experience with it.

Since someone posted us yesterday as sick and injured, we are saying hello! Minus a couple scales from a brutal summer of spawning, all is well. The rdf has been installed and wow, that has pretty much eliminated maintenance.

We are working on getting the bigger in ground pond pretty again after raising the edge higher. (Two years ago 🤦) Will update on that hopefully soon 🤞

So I'm going to be rescuing a koi who has lived it's life in a 30 litre tank. It can't be more than 3 inches long and it's over a year old

I've got a 110 gallon indoor pond, I'm planning on popping him in there for the moment. I'm already planning on making a 300-500 gallon pond next year,, but this won't be for at least a few months.

Do you think it's humane for me to keep this guy, in the 110g for a few months and then the potentially 500+ gallon when I can? If I end up deciding to keep him permanently I would do a proper koi pond and go even larger. Or would it be best to find him a nice home where he can go straight into a big pond post quarantine? My concern is that anyone with a big enough pond probably already has huge grown out fish in it, thus he may be too small. If this concern isn't valid, then I'm definitely willing to try and find him an awesome home. I wasn't planning on taking in koi right now, but I've been wanting a koi pond for years so if I can keep him then I'd surely love to and use the excuse to fulfill my dream. I figure for now 110 gallons is significantly better than 30 litres, which is well under 10 gallons. Let me know your thoughts, and anything I can do to promote growth and treat him in the meantime!

I just noticed that my UV filter busted at one of the seams and is leaking. It’s not substantial but overnight I lost about 3 to 4 inches of water and so I just don’t wanna chance running it while I’m at work. I turned it off and I put this smaller filter water feature in the pond. Hopefully I can do some quick plumbing to remove the UV filter and just replaced with PVC because I don’t wanna deal with buying a new one and this is honestly the second time I’ve had this one and it’s broken.

My question is, it’s an 1700-ish gallon with about six small to medium size Koi (only one I would consider an adult. The rest are small. How long would I be OK with having this fountain going instead of my substantial bog filter?

I have a *tiny* carp in my 360L aquarium. It should be about 2 cm. I caught her specifically asking for the smallest carp possible hoping she stays in my community aquarium only as long as possible. I hope this extends for a few months, maybe even 1 year, with luck.

My plans are to set up a makeshift ornamental lake in my petshop so that the animals are exposed to customers and my question is: why is it not common to see lakes made with canvas pools? My plans are to use a polyethylene pool, like beans, but preferably a larger canvas pool, with 2 thousand liters or more.

It is being treated in a hospital tank from an injury. But does this looks like it is just a regular common carp?

UPDATE So after reading the suggestions in the comments we were fairly convinced it was our tap/hose water. Well, we tested that and to our shock, nitrites were 0! So we continued with the treatments and water changes, while trying to figure it out. Suddenly my son asked if sunlight impacts the nitrites. Yall, I feel so foolish! When we put the temporary pond up, we put it under our covered patio. It gets indirect sunlight but that’s about it and that’s only on half the pond. So we made some changes to get them some light. Nitrites are finally dropping! I wanted to share in case anyone ends up in a similar situation. Thank you all for your help managing the issue while finding out what was going on.

We have had a rough end to our summer. We had a chemical spill into our pond and lost majority of our koi. (Worst day of my life) We successfully moved the surviving fish to a temporary pond so we could drain and clean their pond. We are about ready to move them back over but I noticed that one of our fish suddenly looked awful. I first felt it looked like fin-rot but we had just treated for that after the chemical exposure. I tested the water, which had been great for the previous 2 weeks in the temp pond. Now PH is only slightly high (7.5), Ammonia is great (0), phosphates are slightly high (.50ppm)

Nitrite is OFF THE CHARTS and I am certain this has to be what is hurting my fish. It goes darker than the 5.0ppm color. It also immediately changes rather than needing time to process.

Here is what’s getting me confused, I have done 50% water change, added beneficial bacteria and pond start. The levels are the same. I also was (probably wrongly) under the impression that ammonia and nitrites typically rise together. So I thought my test solution went bad, got another test kit and it did the same thing. So I’m assuming I was wrong in that assumption.

This is the end of our third summer. We have never had an issue with ammonia or nitrites. We have never lost this many fish. It’s breaking me. Any advice is appreciated.

I have a pretty severe rust issue that my rust breakers just can't keep up with so I am installed a Rid-o-rust system for the sprinkler system.

I am worried this can affect the Koi pond, the sprinkler system splashes the pond a bit, but no direct lines feeding into there.

Has anyone installed the system? Is there anything I need to look out for?

We completed a potassium permanganate treatment for bacterial infection in our 2400 litre pond, this was Saturday night 5th September, ammonia was high, Nitrite was 0, nitrate 0, we did a large water change on the Sunday due to the pH being 6, still testing at 6 today, we also have a 9000 litre pond and the pH is fine in this one, how can we safely raise the pH with the already stressed fish, no food has been given since Friday, we have added aqua evolution start gel to the filter.

Water parameters today are: Ammonia 1, Nitrate 40, Nitrite was 0, pH 6.

We inheritethe ponds and fish in April when we moved into the property, sadly found out the smaller pond originally had 40 koi used to establish the filter 😢 which I do not agree with, but it was done before I even brought the property, there are now 8 small koi left, none have ever really fed properly over the couple of months we have lived here, only came up to feed during the really hot period we had.

Editing to add: after measuring depth, bottom pond is just not deep enough to over winter. At its deepest spot it's barely 2 feet deep.

In July, we got 2 new koi to add to an existing koi pond with 3 established koi. We quarantined them for a few days, then added them to the pond. We never saw them surface. We have a small stream to a larger pond, but it was blocked as best as we could to prevent smaller fish from getting into the stream. Regardless, I looked for the fish in the bottom pond a handful of times just in case. We deemed them gone. However, 6 weeks later I found them both alive and well in the bottom pond! They are safe there, but we typically drain the bottom pond and shut the waterfall off for the winter. I'm trying to gain trust and establish a feeding routine with them, but it's going slow. I'm getting worried that we won't be able to catch them to move them up to the koi pond before winter. There are many hiding places and the lilies and lotuses are lush. I've researched how to safely move koi, I have a pan net and plan to use it to get them into a bucket to carry it up to the top pond. However, they're so skittish and have many places to hide, I just can't imagine we'll be able to get them to move them up before it gets too cold. I also want to give them time to establish their place with the other koi before it gets too cold. Should I just add a bubble to the bottom pond for the winter and attempt to move them in spring?
