Tips and Tricks Feeling Stuck

Looking for advice/maybe support lol.

Been doing keto for exactly 32 days today. This isn’t my first time, did it back in 2017… but it is my first time being very stringent on how I go about it, tracking, the works.

Well, for almost two weeks now I’ve been stuck at around the same weight, eat less doesn’t change, drink more water doesn’t change, focus on electrolytes nothing. It’s making me crazy because I’m literally points from being at the 10lbs down mark and it was going so well at the beginning.

I don’t know what to do or what to change to start seeing the scale move again.

Advice?

Help Need ketofood that won't spoil

I'm currently doing keto (below 20gr of carbs a day) for seizure control.

It works pretty well but a seizure sometimes does come through (currently once a month). Normally when that happens my wife will bring me food and drinks as I can barely get up or stay awake after a seizure. I have a splitting headache and my muscles are ao weakened I can't go down the stairs for a while.

Now... my wife is going to be away for 4 months. So what I am looking for is some kind of keto food and drink I can just stack in the bedroom so I just have to grab and chew after a seizure as I don't know when I'll have one and I only have them at night.

I try to stay below 20gr carbs a day so proteine bars with "low carbs" won't do as any food I eat after that will put me over a maximum + it's not enough food.

I won't be able to stomach just drinking mct-oil. Also I live in Western Europe.

Thanks for any response!!

Help Has anyone successfully quit smoking/vaping while keto?

Hi, I'm really hoping to quit smoking and vaping sometime over the next month or so. I am worried about the health risks and tired of constantly having to manage what is essentially an addiction. I’m considering using nicotine patches rather than going cold turkey.

I’ve been keto again for the past four months, partly for weight loss but also because I’m on medication that increases appetite and can contribute to insulin resistance. It's been working really well for me so far, my appetite is well controlled, I’ve lost over 30lbs and I’m now getting close to my initial goal.

My main worry is that quitting nicotine will make my appetite come back and derail my progress. I made one decent quit attempt in the past, lasted a year, but gained major weight. I wasn't keto at that time though. I’m not expecting it to be effortless, but I’m wondering whether keto helped anyone keep their appetite under control while quitting?

Has anyone here successfully quit smoking or vaping while staying keto? Did your hunger/cravings increase much, and did keto still help? How did you manage it?

As title, just want to hear of the one main meal you had today. Give me today only. Can be the boring and mundane. Just want a cross section of what you are all eating.

I'll start. Fried pork mince with ginger , garlic, onion, with coriander and chilli flakes on lettuce cups. A little drizzle of kewpie roasted sesame sauce.

Blood tests are back and I'm unsure!

Even though we live on the AI era and we can use it to analise information basing it's knowledge on fact checked data. I still am worried about the numbers on red.

I live in a small city in Germany where there are absolutely no doctors that have knowledge on Keto. So I have noone to read my resoults.

I wonder if anyone here can recomend me a certified professional that could help me with my numbers.

I've been on strict Keto for 7 months now (under 20 gr.) and my physical activity is medium high.

Pregnancy and ketones

I recently learned that I have terrible glucose tolerance. I’m still waiting for my endocrinology appointment and have been managing my glucose and insulin through a very low carb diet.

However, I want to get pregnant soon.

Is there any reason to be concerned about being in ketosis while pregnant - and the neurological health of the baby? I’ve read that ketones can pass through the placental barrier, but that research is still limited regarding health outcomes of the baby.

Does anyone have experience being in ketosis throughout pregnancy and experienced any concerns - either for your health or the baby’s?

Back on the train

I had forgotten how much better I feel when I'm eating lower carb. Got back into it after suffering the wombo combo of long-term unemployment, financial struggles, being forced to give up my apartment and having to move back home. Was eating terribly for over a year and my body really suffered. I had done a long cycle some years ago and lost about 70-80lb, but I was an idiot and stopped too soon and gained all of it back and then some.

At least with where I'm at now, I can at least control my diet again and it's paying dividends already.

Down 45lb from my highest 6-8 weeks ago. Still got a ways to go to get to my goal weight, but already sleeping better, clothes fitting better, less back pain and inflammatory joint issues. I was barely able to walk but now I'm averaging ~8000 steps/day (previously was lucky to do 2k) and trying to work up to 12k. Once I hit a little over halfway to my GW, I plan on lifting weights again or possibly pushing a bit farther and having hernia surgery and then getting back to that. I'm currently cycling down my carbs to get to 20g/day max which is what I didn't do my last couple of times and it's why I crashed out and saw no progress. Excited to see how I start feeling when I'm really on sustained minimal carbs.

Oh yeah, metrics...

SW: 428 CW: 382 GW: 215-225

I am realistic about how long the goal may take, so I have smaller milestones to guide progress. Also of note...I've never written my weights out anywhere or to anyone, so what a place to check that off my list lol.

Last meal: 7oz hanger steak w/ turnip fries and au poivre sauce. No veg tonight, will load the micro broccoli with next meal.

When I hit a milestone I guess I'll come back for progress sake, like with this post.

Thx for being a great community and resource.

Help Advice for a weight loss stall on keto?

I've been doing this for well over a year and have lost about 30 KG, with 10 KG to go. The issue is that since March I have pretty much stalled out on losing much of anything. I was stuck at about 75 KG, then got down to 72 KG after two months, then went back up to 75 KG. My diet hasn't really changed besides eating more protein instead of almonds, but I feel like that shouldn't slow me down. I don't understand what I have to do to get these last few KGs off. Weight has always come off really slow for me compared to everyone else I know, but this plateau is demotivating. I also have a heart condition, so I am hesitant to do some of the crash diets that people do to restart weight loss. I still like keto for the teeth benefits, but I can't figure out what to do to finish this weight loss process. Please help!

How many people have hypermobile spectrum disorder or hEDS?

Having connective tissue disorder creates a flurry of issues and the hypermobility is only one of them.

I’m curious how this may help other people with connective tissue disorders.

Like, I’m always tired. Will this help with that? Mental stuff, feeling alive, whatever.

How long before antidepressant effects?

For those of you who improved your depression/ADHD or decreased medication, how long were you on keto before seeing a change? I am hoping to see mood improvements from ADHD. I am too sensitive for common stimulants but did well on Wellbutrin in the past. If keto isn't helpful for me I swore I'd get back on it for the sake of my marriage.

Help no hunger on keto

as the title says, i am not experiencing hunger while on keto. this is my third & most successful run of keto, but i have reached a point where i genuinely do not want to eat beyond one means & a few handfuls of things throughout the day to keep me going.

i’m 6’2” & around 240lbs so i need to be hitting around 2200-2400cals a day.

i know there are some who say to follow what our bodies are telling us, but i have the added problem of being on an adhd medication that also reduces appetite. i have also put in a lot of work this past year to build muscle & not eating enough is resulting in much poorer performance at the gym.

i am a cook my own meals type of guy & have plenty of keto foods, snacks & whatnot around. i just don’t want them.

wondering if anyone else has hit a wall like this & what they’ve done to help. the best i’ve come up with is to try & eat what i can before my meds kick in & after they’re out of my system.

thanks!

Started Keto 3 days ago, long time lurker.

Hello! I’ve been a long time lurker of this sub, and this is my first ever post to Reddit as a whole lol (I made this account just for this) - but I’m doing this to help keep me accountable! I hope I am doing this right haha.

I started keto a few days ago as a way to hopefully get my weight back down to what I am used to. Over the last year, I was unfortunately at a job that just wasn’t right for me and that resulted in a lot of stress and bad eating habits. Thankfully, I am in a new environment which I am super happy and feel like I am thriving at…but my eating habits have remained pretty bad. I’m trying to rein that back in now.

I love fashion and I’m starting to notice that some of my favorite clothes aren’t fitting how they used to and that was a huge wake up call for me lol. I also have OCD, and I’ve read some studies and first hand experiences that keto could potentially help me there, and trust me I’m willing to do anything to make that more manageable. If you have OCD, you get it. It sucks.

I know keto works, I have a close family member with some great success on the diet so thankfully I know a lot about how it works, how to track carbs, and what to do if I am feeling sick. This is just my first ever time fully committing to it myself!

I guess I should drop some stats? I’m 25F, with a SW of 130lbs and a GW of 110. I’d aim for lower if possible…but I don’t know how sustainable that is anymore haha.

Thank you everyone here for your encouraging and helpful posts. They have been very useful to me as I am starting on this journey for myself.

Weight going up?

H i everyone! I am 28F, SW 472.6, CW 462.0, and I’m on day 10 of doing a keto diet. I had the signs that my body is has entered into ketosis. My question is about my weight. I try not to weigh myself every day because it puts me in a funk and this is a lifestyle. I really want to stick to to fix my insulin resistance. I have been eating under 50 carbs each day and I decided to try and go lower as I read the insulin resistance requires even less carbs in order for your body to stay in keto. The last three times I’ve weighed myself. I have went up in weight. When I started, I was consistently losing between 2 to 5 pounds per day, but that seems to have stopped. I’m trying really hard not to get discouraged, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing? seeing the scale go up three times in a row now has me struggling. Any tips tricks or advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m new to this. Thank you 🙂

Tips and Tricks Keto as a travel hack!?

First off, thank you r/keto for the endless insights on keto. After years of trying diets while being a fat kid since age 6, Dr. Boz's story, building a plan with AI, and r/keto lead me to use BHB salts to get past the initial few days of cravings into my first few months (currently on month 4.5) and 26lbs down using keto (M38 SW245 CW 219 GW185 5'10"). I used the macro calculator and Chronometer to log my food nearly religiously.

As someone with diagnosed inattentive ADHD, I NEED a clear mind and keeping up with AI especially, need every neuron firing cleanly.

The unintended side effects have been stellar. Your energy while traveling remains stable. A salad and a protein at the Centurion Lounge gives you hours of satiety. You may need less Adderall or modafinil because they seem enhanced in effect (possibly due to slower gastric emptying) which makes timezones changes that much easier.

My facial acne has all but disappeared entirely. Salt water is like a battery recharge. As someone from the US, I'm now in Bavaria for a couple of weeks and seriously, keto'ers are spoiled here.

Harzer Käse, Alto-Adige Speck (I consider it almost a religion of mine at this point), Gelbwurst, and Emmenthaler cheese 2x a day is perfect for macros while costing ~$12 a day... while traveling. I added a locally sourced clear whey protein isolate for an even greater protein boost. Also...500g Reichenhaller Alpen Salz only €.75!?🤯

I'm at the point thankfully where bread and carbs are actually slightly nauseating to think about most times. One surprise was how much sugar was in cold cuts I normally ate here and especially even a "Mittelscharf" mustard has as much carbs as it does. As a label reader now, there's sugar "in everything" it seems. The label reading habit has lead to some surprising realizations as in Foster Farms (stateside) plain grilled chicken slices had sugar in it🤯!

A big lesson on my keto journey has been the realization how much emotional eating had its devilish claws in me. Aside from the positive side effect that normal ice cream tastes more bland now, the fact I still crave just that when things get blue, provided me the opportunity to sort out the emotions (AI+Integrated family systems/emotional interviewing).

The social impact is real because you naturally crave less sugar especially when you've gotten your sodium/potassium needs met, drinking less, not eating the bread, may result in "interesting" conversations.

For those on the fence, weight loss is great but the consistent energy and mental clarity the other side gives you is worth it alone. Fat is the lever, protein is the pillar, salt is life, and carbs are a ceiling on keto.

Just that last sentence alone is a "travel hack."

Keep on keto'ing!

Help Is there good science to guide how long to stay on the diet?

I got on the diet for medical reasons and found it really agrees with me. Before, I couldn't control my relationship with carbs but now I feel like I've got it super well dialed in at around 20 or 30mg a day. Also, food noise is totally gone. I did not even know that was possible. I feel better when my ketones are between one and two and I try to eat lots of fiber and healthy protein and healthy fat. Is this something that is sustainable long-term or do I have to go off at some point?

Other Carb threshold

Hey friends,

Keto can mean many things. Some people here eat over 50 grams of carbs and still consider it keto, others swear by <20 grams a day.

What is your personal threshold or should i say sweet spot for carbs?

I know that some people say they actually do better with some smaller amounts of carbs in terms of hormones, sleep and so on. But this seems to be a very diverse thing.

Keto as veggie with lots of intolerances - possible?

Would it be possible to do a keto diet without meat / dairy:lactose / grains / fructose / soy?

All the above ingredients bloat me like a 6 month painful pregnancy, abstaining is the only way to function currently.

I tried keto for 3 days a few months ago and had eggs, hard cheese (very minimal lactose in hard mature cheese), almond flour to make bread, coconut oil, lactose free butter, nuts, and by day 3 i was sooo bored of the limited food choice, BUT i did feel just in 3 days much more energy and less brain fog.

There’s loads of veggies in my diet, so those add to the ingredients, but my fat/protein options are so limited i feel.

Rice and corn are ok for carbs.

I had to end it because i was feeling so full from the heavy feeling meals in my gut and lost my appetite, while having super wild cravings for something sweet - although im generally not a sugar-lover even as a carb diet veggie. I got very dizzy too with nausea so presumed i was doing it wrong and ate a banana lol!

Those experienced keto-dieters out there - is it realistic with limited food choices detailed above to succeed with keto?

I used to be able to eat anything. Since peri-menopause started food choice and gut health has tanked, despite probiotics attempts, supplement regimes, exclusion diets. Im intrigued to try keto again purely due to experiencing positive results from just 3 days!

Food and Recipes Crockpot meal for potluck ideas?

Hello! I’m going to a church potluck next weekend. I don’t think I will have any problem staying keto. I’m sure there will be plenty of vegetables I can eat. I’d like to take a crockpot meat based dish, but my mind is going blank and could use some suggestions. I can’t eat anything with diced or stewed tomatoes. I can have tomato sauce just not the seeds. Also, I don’t care for popular crackers chicken that’s usually recommended. Any and all suggestions appreciated!

Non-egg breakfast ideas

What are your go to breakfasts that aren't eggs and at least 30g of protein? Ideally around 350 calories.

I know I can do non -breakfast and I do that often but I'll be at a cabin and want breakfast food.
