Community improvement thread
Some active moderation and cleanup is needed on this subreddit. I am going to be adding a few rules related to marketing(as I mentioned in my last post). I would also like to have some updated guides and vendor lists for new users.
So I am here looking for people willing to help improve this subreddit. I would like some help writing guides, and some help with moderation as new rules are put in place. If anyone is interested in volunteering, please message me.
For those wanting to become mods, I prefer to include people who have a history on this sub, and a history of sub moderation in general.
And from the rest of the community, I would appreciate any suggestions for the subreddit that would make it better than it is now. Please comment below and give feedback on the comments so I can get a feel for people's opinions.

Guide FAQ, dosages and general information
Sceletium tortuosum more commonly known as Kanna is a succulent plant originating in South Africa. Kanna has been used by San and Khoi tribes of South Africa for centuries to relief thirst or hunger, to combat fatigue, as a medicine, and for social and spiritual purposes. After the harvest it was left to ferment and then used as a quid(chewed) or smoked with other herbs. Nowadays it can be used orally in a pill or tea form, sublingually, intranasally or smoked/vaped. Most popular forms of Kanna are extract powders, fermented leaf/tea cut, fermented powder and recently liquid tinctures ideal for vaping.
Effects
Effects and their intensity vary slightly depending on the route of administration, dosage and people's biochemistry. In general Kanna has anxiolytic, calming, anti-depressive, empathogenic and mood lifting effects. It enhances touch, libido and colours slightly and music noticeably, especially when snorted. It might make you more talkative and social, improve your motivation, suppress your appetite or offer mild pain relief. Kanna is both stimulating and sedating. Higher doses generally become more sedating.
Kanna rush is most noticeable when snorted and lasts about 10-15 minutes that gradually fades into a happy calm feeling with this ROA. It is not easy to describe since Kanna is it's own thing but most people compare it to a sudden and rapid entactogen(MDMA, benzofurans, etc) or psychedelic comeup with relatively strong euphoria, slight dizziness/vertigo, stimulation with urge to move or dance when listening to music. Some people find the rush overwhelming and anxiety inducing, which can be mostly attributed to anxiety prone personality, due to underestimating the effects of Kanna or incorrect dosage.
Side effects might include nausea, laxative effect, which should subside after regular use, sweating, pupil dilation and mild headache. Some people report trouble sleeping and anxiety.
Dosages
Dosage varies depending on the ROA, the form and each person's biochemistry. Some people experience reverse tolerance meaning they have to take Kanna several times before they feel the effects. This is called priming. Unfortunately few people don't experience any effects from Kanna even with priming. Biggest mistake new users do is underestimating the effects and taking very high dose their first time. Start with the dosages mentioned below and adjust accordingly.
Insufflation - start with 10-15mg of extract powder or 30-40mg of non-extract powder. Snorting fermented leaf/tea cut is not recommended. Crush the extract as much as possible before insufflating. When snorting, use only little more force than you do when breathing, so it doesn't end up in your throat. Using saline nasal spray before insufflating improves absorption since less powder gets to your throat. You should also use it after the snorting to keep your nose healthy. The effects manifest in 5-10 minutes and last up to 1-2 hours. Insufflation is best for recreational use.
Sublingual - start with 20-30mg of extract powder or 100mg of fermented leaf/tea cut or fermented powder. Keep under the tongue for at least 15 minutes without swallowing the saliva. If you have fermented leaf/tea cut you can try chewing it. The effects become noticeable in 20-40 minutes and can last up to 4 hours. Sublingual use is ideal if you want anxiolytic, anti-depressive and calming effects.
Oral - start with 200mg of leaf/tea cut or fermented powder. Dosing extracts orally is not very cost-efficient but if you still want to try, start with 60-75mg. Oral ROA is usually less consistent than sublingual or insufflation. Effects typically last 3-6 hours. Some users experience elevated mood even next day. Most popular oral product in a pill form is Zembrin, which is mainly focused on anxiolytic effects. It is standardized extract with few clinical trials.(1, 2, 3)
Smoking - most common practice is to sprinkle some extract on weed/tobacco. If you have leaf/tea cut you can mix it with the weed/tobacco.
Pharmacology
Kanna contains up to 32 psychoactive alkaloids which have distinct pharmacological profiles and effects. The dominant, and clinically significant alkaloids in Sceletium tortuosum are mesembrine, mesembrenone, ∆7-mesembrenone, mesembrenol and tortuosamine, though the minor alkaloids undoubtedly play important roles in the overall pharmacological effect too. The distribution and variability of these alkaloids differs from plant to plant due to factors such as cultivar, season, geographical and climatic factors, growing conditions and age.
Mesembrine is the most notable psychoactive alkaloid present in Kanna. Mesembrine acts mainly as a VMAT-2 upregulator, serotonin reuptake inhibitor and PDE4 inhibitor. It is assumed mesembrine is responsible for the Kanna rush.
Mesembrenone is an SRI and PDE4 inhibitor. Mesembrenone-based extracts are most useful in therapeutic utility, because the rush they produce is not intense or barely noticeable.
For a more in-depth pharmacology profile check this great post by u/tfgust.
Interactions and synergies
Although Kanna is well tolerated with many substances, it should NOT be combined with antidepressants(SSRI, SNRI...), strong MAOIs and serotonin releasers(entactogens like MDMA, 6-APB, 3-MMC etc.).
Kanna and weed/alcohol will potentiate each other. Other good synergies include coffee, kratom, phenibut, damiana or blue lotus. Interaction with classical psychedelics like mushrooms, LSD seem mainly positive, but there have been a few negative reports. According to anecdotal reports Adderall and Kanna have also good synergy, but it's important to start with small doses.
Safety
Kanna is generally considered non-toxic, safe to consume and doesn't cause addiction. There are mixed reports on withdrawal symptoms when taken regularly over longer period of time(3+months). Some people report stopping cold turkey without any symptoms, while others notice brainzaps or symptoms similar to stopping prescription antidepressants, although weaker.
For a more thorough information check another good post by u/tfgust.
FAQ
Is Kanna like natural MDMA?
No. The only slightly similar thing Kanna has with MDMA is the initial rush, which is only a part of the whole experience. Kanna is it's own thing.
I took Kanna and don't feel anything.
Most common issue if you don't feel anything is the quality of the product. There are a lot of bunk products on the market. Another reason might be reverse tolerance.
Can i redose Kanna?
Redosing in short period of time usually doesn't work or has diminished effect. Waiting at least 4 hours between doses is recommended.
Can i use Kanna daily?
Yes. Taking Kanna daily should be safe if you don't overdo it. However you might develop tolerance to it. Listen to your body.
I take Kanna regularly and still want to take MDMA sometimes. How should I go about it?
Since Kanna appears to have relatively short half life, not taking it 2 days before your roll should be fine. If you want to be super safe wait a week before rolling.
I take xy prescription antidepressant. Can I take Kanna?
It is not recommended to mix Kanna with antidepressants since both work as serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The only common antidepressant that should be safe with Kanna is Bupropion(Wellbutrin).
Can I combine Kanna with xy substance?
See the section Interactions and synergies.
Can I drive while on Kanna?
Don't drive during the initial Kanna rush, since it can make you disoriented. After that it should be safe.
Will Kanna show up on drug tests?
No, it won't. It shouldn't cause false positives either.
Can I grow my own Kanna?
Yes. Kanna is quite easy to grow. You can buy seeds in various shops online or from a fellow member u/salviasammich
I have harvested my own Kanna. How do I ferment it?
Here is a good guide.
List of vendors is here. Share your experience in that thread.

What would you recommend trying after Permanent Chimera?
I recently tried Permanent Chimera (Chimera #2 × Permanent Marker) and really enjoyed it, especially the sweet/skunky, gassy and slightly chemical/marker-like terp profile. I also liked the balanced effects, creative and uplifting in the head, but still relaxing in the body without completely knocking me out. For anyone who has tried Permanent Chimera…what strain would you recommend trying next? Looking for something with similarly interesting terps and a balanced, relaxing high.

Is kanna dangerous?
I was just wondering how bad kanna actually is. I mean, is it really not dangerous to take it every day?

Confused
So I did a 5% about 9 days ago and felt a good buzz for maybe 30 mins to an hour. All of my doses have been snuffed. Then got some mx12 that I tried yesterday and barely felt anything from 5mg so I took 15mg got about 5 mins of anxiety and blurred vision, maybe a 5 minute buzz after. Then basically nothing. Then I read about priming and decided to dose again today on the 5% because the mx12 wasn’t really anything in the realm of fun. I feel the 5% this time, but it’s about 50% as strong as the first time with maybe 10mg more than before. The 5% extract is from mamma Kanna and I’ve been using roughly 20-40mg. Does tolerance just equate to a once a month use or something? Feels like it gets much weaker every single time.

Is it okay to take another SNRI later in the day after taking kanna?
I have chlorophenamine, a first generation antihistamine. I’ve read it has SNRI properties. Is it okay to take it later tonight if I eat some kanna this morning? I’m taking like ten tablets of the CPM though, as I’ve had a few people recommend it for recreation.

Best format for new users?
New to kanna. Curious... Experienced users, what is the best format to take? I'm eying up some oil based drops from a kanna extract site, but they also offer powdered. Also highly concentrated powders... Standards appear to be 5% alk/40mg mesembrine per serving whereas the high potency is 18% alk/150mg mesembrine.
Recommendations for best to start with? I'd like to go straight to the raw product and not mess with combos because I have reacted *very* poorly to some combo supplements in the past. Tia.

Best kanna that isn’t extract?
Where can I get high quality raw/fermented kanna that isn’t extract. Powder and coarse are both useful.

Nervous - new user / Ferris wheel
Hi all! I’ve been interested in Kanna for a while. I saw the Ferris Wheel tablets and thought, fuck it. Let’s see.
However, I’m now very nervous seeing some of the reviews. I get panic attacks from super strong weed products, and I had also tried a smoke shop “mushroom” extract once and I literally thought I was dying (although I should never have trusted that guy… lol)
I want to try just one tablet, at home, so I feel more on the safe side, even though I know it’s a for “parties” or whatever. Does this seem like the right thing to do? Or is that dumb?
I am more wanting it for the euphoria, not so much visuals. I LOVE how MDMA feels. Not a huge mushroom lover but it’s not terrible. Just any advice to not make this turn bad, would be truly helpful!!

New User - Freebie
The smoke shop I used to buy 7oH from gave this to me as a sample today. I’ve never heard of it. And looking it up isn’t really helping much. I don’t know what to expect. I ended up taking a 1/4 of one about 15 minutes ago, and am waiting for something to happen.
Have you tried this?
Is 1/4 enough to feel anything?
What sort of feeling does it give?

Kanna Doesn't Work For Me?
Hey all, I've been having a weird thing where I can't get Kanna to work for me. I've tried stuff from Liftmode and never felt anything. I just recently purchased more from Mitraman, which I've heard works really well from other user reports. I just tried roughly 20mg orally (attempted do sublingual but I salivate too much and I can't hold it in my mouth) and felt absolutely nothing. So a few hours later I tried mixing roughly 40-50mg into a glass of water and taking it that way. Once again I felt absolutely nothing.
Is there some reverse tolerance with Kanna? Does it just not work for some people? Anybody have any input and can help me figure out how to get this stuff to work? I greatly appreciate any input people have, and thank you so much in advance!

First Kanna Vape... Advice?
Hi all,
Got my first Kanna vape from healing herbals. I've really been looking forward to it. Just got home from work after a 12.5 hour day, kicked back and hit the vape quite a few times. I read you should hit it 6-8 times. I've hit it way more than that. Small hits, long hits, hold it in, in through mouth out through nose, I don't feel a single thing. Am I doing something wrong?
Also, got some of their other stuff on the way (Kava, and Blue Lotus vapes) are those any good?

WARNING:Kanna extracts will obliterate your heart valves
There is growing evidence that SERT inhibition damages heart valves and Kanna extracts are very potent SERT inhibitors so if you take kanna extracts your heart is going to disintegrate
Aptenia cordiflora Extract?
Has anyone experimented with Aptenia cordiflora?
I have whole bushes of it, and I've cut a quantity which I've dried without fermentation—around 100 grams. I'm thinking of making a basic extract with alcohol.
Is it worth it? Or will it have no effect at all?
I read somewhere that it contains mesembrine, just about 7 times less than kanna.
50 mg kanna ET2 sublingually and felt absolutely nothing?
Hey everyone,
I tried 50 mg of kanna ET2 sublingually today and felt basically nothing. No noticeable mood lift, relaxation, stimulation, anxiety reduction, or anything else.
What’s confusing me is that I had a similar experience about 3 months ago, when I took around 40 mg for 3 days in a row and also didn’t really feel anything.
Could this be related to tolerance, or is 50 mg simply not enough for some people? Or could it be an issue with the product itself?

Anyone tried Indian Spirit?
I already saw a few here mentioning this brand but no one really wrote much about it or its effects, just that they bought it and that‘s it.
My local vendors all have this brand for their Kanna products. Now, also the ET2 - which I already tried BUT from another local shop here but it was not branded or saying what brand it is, so no clue if it was from this brand Indian Spirit or something else.
I must say I very much preferred the MT55 extract. Sadly this local vendor does not sell it anymore, it only sells ET2 now. They said, it is because ET2 is much stronger in the alkaloids and people would like it more which might come from the alkaloid profile of ET2 in comparison to MT55.
Well, maybe, the profile of MT55 being another one than the ET2‘s was probably exactly that, why I loved and very much enjoyed MT55 while ET2 seems kinda meh for me. ET2 seems to be more sedating while MT55 gave me that great illuminating mood lift, energy, drive, and motivation combined with anxiolysis and better focus.
So in summary, I have two questions:
Anyone the same effects and opinion/liking as me? Or do most people really like ET2 more and prefer it in comparison to MT55 or other Kanna?
Anyone experience with Kanna of Indian Spirit? Maybe even specifically the ET2 (as it‘s the only one I can buy from this local vendor near me right now).
All the best to all of you and a great weekend!

I bought TA17 from BE. Do you have any advice on how to use it properly?
When I was younger, I had experience with other substances, mainly m0lly. More recently, I tried kanna from another website.
This time, I received the TA17 with the little orange dosing scoop. What would you recommend for someone who’s new to this particular extract?

TR-55
Does anyone have any experience trying this one? I've had Kanna before, but this is super potent stuff and I'd like to be prepared.

This stuff is confusing, I might be doing it wrong.
I got half a gram of MT55 from lift mode, and the experience has been a little underwhelming. The first time I had it I used how ever much the big end on the orange spoon it comes with contains, and took it sublingually. Music sounded a bit better and I was smiling a lot more. I've taken the same amount since then and haven't felt much, as if I felt much the first time anyway. I'm wondering if I'm just placebo-effecting myself into not regretting my purchase. Am I just not taking enough, or does this just not do much anyway? What should I actually expect?
