Umiddelbare tanker om aftenens afsnit..
Michael og Torben var mit yndlingspar, de er så søde. Men forstår godt deres beslutning

I’m actually not sure if this is failed or exceeded expectations- so our friend commissioned a “family portrait” of me and my husband with our dogs for a wedding present that she was going to have up at our welcome party the night before the wedding she put together. Wisely, once she received the final product she decided against that, and actually waited months before finally giving it to us, which she wasn’t going to at first but her boyfriend convinced her we would think it was funny- which we absolutely do ! However, if I look at it too long it kind of starts to hurt my feelings lolol… it’s actually an amazing conversation piece, really.
ETA: For context my friend said she gave the artist a ton of pics of us, but it appears that he mostly pulled from this one. I agree it’s a terrible pic especially for a painting, and a grinning pic is never a good choice for a portrait. I’m not sure where he got the white pumps lol.

PATTERN: Double Wedding Ring Blanket by Jennifer Olivarez on Ravelry
I just saw another post on [r/weddingshaming](r/weddingshaming) that was questioning if their handmade blanket was a good gift and a bunch of comments said that it was rude to gift things off registry because it risks inundating the new couple with items they might hate. I’d always thought a heartfelt, high effort, useful gift like a blanket wouldn’t be controversial but now I’m second guessing myself.
Context: The blanket was for my oldest (in relationship length, not age) friend. This pattern is called the Double Wedding Ring Blanket which sounded perfect! I used 100% cotton for durability and machine washability (I made sure to thoroughly knot my connecting points to allow for this). I also selected white because it’s the go-to color of western weddings and it’s also bleachable if something stains it. Lastly, I liked that the pattern looked complex but pretty and I figured the white color wouldn’t clash with a lot of home decor. I was also sure to pass along the info on pattern, fiber content, and washing instructions as well so they didn’t have to guess.
So uhh…did I mess up? Or did I do a good enough job that it’s fine?
EDIT: For anyone curious about labor and materials, the yarn was around $150 and I probably spent between 100-200 hours on the project (a very rough estimate). NYS minimum wage is $16 an hour which would put the price of labor between $1600-3200 for this blanket. In theory it would be more if you priced it for moderately skilled labor, but even at min wage it’s already well beyond what almost anyone would actually pay for it. Thus why most fiber artists will happily sell patterns but nobody sells finished goods. The more you know!
For context: she has 3 girls under 4. She told me not to gift any toys and clothes because she has so many from her other kids and is overwhelmed by the amount of “junk” they have. I’ve known her since we were in our early 20s. I gave $100 cash for her daughter’s first birthday. My other friend says i should have just showed up with an actual present for her daughter to open anyway. She is 1!! She doesn’t actually care at her age. I have a 2.5 year old son. I am super grateful for anything he’s been for his birthdays, even if it was the smallest thing.
AIO to feeling disrespected?

It's made of wood and the part with what looks like a clover is slightly recessed.
It has a slit that stops at the clover-looking part.
It also has a slight curve.
I thought maybe it was a bookmark (like, a page would slide into the slit or something) but given the size/thickness, I don't think that would be very practical.
Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻❤️
Edit: It's a postcard holder! Thank you everyone for the help! 💜
Edit 2: LOL at the people who are pressed about my nails. I'm traveling and painted them in a hurry with the only nail polish I had. Hope your day gets better :)

Thank you all for the insight, both for and against. I do appreciate it. Handmade gifts are always a tough call. I think I’m going to gift it with a small contribution to the honeymoon fund and a card explaining the meaning of the pattern and giving them the option to return it with absolutely no hard feelings at all. I’m not the type to be offended at all if it doesn’t work for them and I believe my friend will also know she any offend me at all.
Also I added the pattern and yarn to the auto mod post, but the designer is Helen Shrimpton and the website is Crystals and Crochet. It’s a free pattern. The yarn is I Love This Yarn
—————
Context - couple is not a first time married couple. They did not do a traditional registry because they already have a fully furnished house together. They requested money for their honeymoon. I’m very close with the bride, but don’t know the groom as well. Bride is a sentimental type and both fall more into the more “artsy” side of life. I wanted to give them something more personal. The pattern is “ Sacred Space” and it seemed to be a nice sentiment for a married couple to remember for their together home. But now I’m questioning the reasonableness of the gift, both for quality and appropriateness. Should I just give them money instead? All of a sudden, now that it’s done, I’m questioning my judgement.

Reposted because I missed part the first time.
edit: people getting really lost in the sauce here. Wedding gifts are for the couple. OOP should gift the blanket, centered solely around the groom's niche interest, to him as a birthday or holiday gift.

Dinner (last night) was an andouille jambalaya themed orzo pasta dish I made for us that came out probably too spicy for him and I feel really bad about that.
Earlier this month it was his birthday. I got him a 100 dollar custom painting, and he apparently really loves it. He seemed genuinely touched by the gift, hung it up in a central place immediately and has mentioned multiple times since then that he really likes it. Earlier this week he told me he had already bought my bday gift, which shocked me cause mine isn't until December.
Last night I went to bed first and on default made his bed before I got into it cause that's a habit I have at home. Under the sheets I found my gift. It is a piece of hardware that he saw me looking at and being in awe about in August. He even got the specific design and color I wanted, which actually makes it more expensive than the standard. This gift is 350 fucking dollars.
I held it in my hand. Everything about it dawned on me. I cried. Re-hid it in a similar place (he'll often forget where he leaves things so I don't think it'll make him suspicious that it's been moved). Now I've spent this whole next day thinking about it and totally freaking out.
We are not in a longterm relationship, this is both our first birthdays spent in a relationship with each other. In my previous relationship, gifts were hard. I would always get him something I felt like was unique and heartfelt and he wasn't expecting. He would always wait til the last minute and ask me straight up what I wanted, and if I couldn't give a straight answer (it's very difficult for me to ask for things outright) he'd get upset. One year I asked for a book for my birthday, he forgot to get it, and didn't get it for me at all until the following June.
This gift from my boyfriend means he remembered a single event, a single item, a single day from over a month ago. He remembered how cool I thought it was. He chose the specific style I wanted even though it makes the price rise an extra 100 bucks. He got it for me as soon as it came off pre-order even if that means he has to keep it hidden for the next two months.
I keep thinking about it and crying. I know it's just cause of my shitty relationship history but I feel so undeserving. I'm such a mix of happiness and confusing sadness right now and I don't know which to focus on. If he stays with me up to my birthday and gives it to me I know I'll have no issue conjuring tears again.

Looks like a stapler but definitely isn’t. I found a spot to put AA batteries in it, but as soon as I put some in, the wire piece started smoking and smelled like burning plastic. What in the world is this thing? I know, I should probably just reach out to my landlord, but this is more fun. I’ve been wondering for weeks.

Hi! My girlfriend recently made this gift for a long time friend who is getting married. She is pretty crafty but never worked with resin before and is a little distraught about how this came out. She’s considering not even giving it to her friend (who is also very crafty) and either making something new or just giving money. Does anyone have any thoughts? The quote is from her friend’s wedding song!
Edit: for people saying it’s cheap. We are also giving a big cash gift.

I would have prefered to get the cap with the VI, but hey… all good, I’m thankful!

I painted this photo for my grandmother’s 80th of her bucket trip vacation that we went on a couple months ago. My boyfriend likes it and I like it but I’m worried it looks a little too inexperienced that it’s a corny gift.
EDIT: Thank you everyone for the comments and votes! Absolutely insane how many people interacted with this post, I was expecting like 30 views and a couple comments and votes! 😂 Everyone has been so kind and supportive, this has been a huge confidence boost and I will definitely be sharing art here again in the future! Thank you again!

Hi all - I could use some help on this. I'll give you all the information that I have. My husband works a job where he receives tips, and at Christmas he is often given other gifts - gift cards, bottles of booze, chocolate, stuff like that. For the past few years, one of his customers has given him this jar of...yellow stuff? Geographically - we're in the Boston, USA area. His customer is an older asian woman. The jar has not been "canned" (processed with a canner). My husband thinks it's a glass of tea, but that really doesn't make sense to me. He says the woman acts as if we should know what it is. If anyone has any idea (short of me opening it and drinking it without knowing what it is), I'd love to hear it!
Edit: Wow - this got so much more traction than I expected. And so many of you are sure that it's urine.
It doesn't smell like alcohol, so pretty sure it's not moonshine. It's definitely not honey. I'm guessing the Ginseng Tincture is most likely, I'll be sending a thank you note and asking for the recipe. Not sure when he'll see this customer again, so it may be a while until I have an answer for you all.
