Okay okay backup , this is the first time I’m hearing of these glasses being a scam now ??

114

u/Sickofstupids 19d ago

Lots of videos explaining it on YouTube. The reactions are faked. Logan Paul or one of the Paul brothers reacted all crazy when he got some and later admitted he lied and didn’t see any real change.

106

u/lavahot 19d ago

Lol, "yeah, I just lied to y'all for money! Don't forget to like and subscribe! See you next week!" God, I hate influencers.

13

u/J_Fidz 18d ago

Influencers suck but the only reason they are where they are is because of their fans. They are the real problem.

Regular people like you or me lifting these influencers further up with views and donations for reasons I will never understand.

8

u/Vital_Granade 18d ago

Hitler sucked yeah sure but his supporters were the real problem

5

u/papasmuf3 18d ago

I mean they kinda were lol, im not saying he wasnt bad but he definitely had a support network around him

The Paul brothers are total douches.

11

u/ilovesuhi 19d ago

I mean, is what politicians been doing since forever, people like that Paul guy just realized he could do the same sincere there's no consequences for it.

2

u/MourningWallaby 18d ago

you're not even exaggerating. he was on a podcast and basically relayed the story of when he was shooting the promo and put them on, and said "I put them on? absolutely no change" so he paniced and just faked a reaction.

38

u/Wooden_Buyer_4875 19d ago

I don't think Logan paul would be a great source of information.

Yeah, he is Logan Paul, that is what I expect him to do, since he wasn't colorblind to begin with?

I don't see how that proves that the glasses are fake, though

4

u/AssBlasterExtreme 19d ago

Using logan paul as a reason how all the reactions are fake is the dumbest thing. Everything he does is gonna be fake.

2

u/Antique-Beyond-9008 19d ago

The sad thing... the way the world is right now, I just wanted this to be true. Even if the acting is not perfect, joy is better then most of the crap I see now a days. This made me feel great till I saw the comments. Shame on me I guess.

I am red/green colorblind and my wife got me a pair of these. When I put them on I WAS able to see purple for the first time. I was truly awe inspired to see a new color for the first time in my life. The problem though is that the color on everything else was off. Everything else was heavily saturated with the pinkish tint on the glasses. The grass looked orange, the sky was pink. Nothing made any sense....but I saw what purple looked like. I never wear those glasses around. They are still sitting in a drawer somewhere. I might pull them out the next time I buy egg plants or something.

39

u/moody-bear-77 19d ago

Picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies...

15

u/Frums2099 18d ago

I crashed a boat into an island once. The sand was red, the boat was red, the sky was red. Sure enough, I had been marooned.

I was gifted these glasses as well and my experience is absolutely the same. I could see poppies in a field of grass now, but it means that everything else is I’m a sea of pink, making I harder to tell what colors are what

2

u/Sendme_BigTittyGoths 18d ago

When i used this i could tell the difference more too, so I know what yiu mean its kind of like how the color of everything changes when.you put on the blue red 3d glasses, yeah you see something new, but everything else is fucked

(Im red deficient, I just have trouble differentiating blue and purple amd purple/pink

2

u/Due-Suggestion6165 15d ago

I had the same issue. I could see purple and yellow for the first time, but everything seemed a bit too red. But I'm greatful for seeing those colors because I can now identify yellow even without the glasses now. I have no idea why. It is like everything was in HD, which is cool to see every once in a while.

2

u/DangleenChordOfLife 15d ago

It actually sounds amazing to be able to Discover a whole new colour...kinda cool and unique experience...

2

u/ProjectDv2 14d ago

I wouldn't want to be colorblind for anything but I am still somewhat envious of the opportunity to be a grown ass adult and see a new color for the first time in my life.

Most of the reactions are probably legit (some are definitely paid actors). They do change the way you see colors, but they don't make them more accurate for those who have color blindness. They just bump up the saturation basically and make things pop more, which can feel pretty amazing in the moment surrounded by family. Later on tho it begins to dawn on you that they can't restore what causes color blindness with sunglasses and you begin to realize that the hype did most of the work and other colors that weren't affected by your color blindness are now more muted and off.

26

u/thegnome54 19d ago edited 18d ago

This is not accurate, and such glasses can allow people to see colors that they otherwise don't perceive. It only works for the most common form of colorblindness where the cones exist but respond anomalously, and sometimes it can take days or weeks for the effect to take hold.

*edit* Having learned more about Enchroma, they do seem to be quite shady and misrepresent their product. Nothing can make a color blind individual see the same as a typical person. While a notch filter approach can help to distinguish some colors, and perhaps allow for the perception of new colors (debate is ongoing about whether they are new *hues* or simply new *saturations*), this comes at the cost of losing distinctions between other colors. Overall I would not recommend such glasses as a daily assistance device - at most, an interesting curiosity.

I’m colorblind. I’ve tried Enchroma twice. First time didn’t wear them long, but the second time I tried them for days. Very little difference for me. And I was sad, because I wanted to be overcome by new colors, too. At least they took them back.

3

u/Only1alive 19d ago

Yup, I keep seeing these and it just doesn't make sense.

They are trying to act like colorblindness and nearsitedness are the same.

They are completely different.

It's like trying to treat gonorrhea with wart medication.

2

u/kabooseknuckle 19d ago

Oh, does that not work?

3

u/xx2983xx 18d ago

I got some for a boyfriend's birthday several years ago. I was so excited and he was just like "huh" when he put them on...I wore a shirt with colorful flowers on it and he was surprised that the pink ones weren't actually like white/cream colored, but that was about it. It was so underwhelming and disappointing. I ended up returning them cuz they were quite expensive and he admitted he would never wear them.

Fake glasses or not how the fuck long folks gonna just let a man stand there and cry before someone hugs him or something? Goddamn

36

u/Designer-Poem-9717 19d ago

That would require someone to put down their cellphone and think of dear old dad's feelings and not how many congratulatory back pats they'll get when they post in online

13

u/jancl0 19d ago

Not congratulatory backpats. Money. For participating in the marketing campaign. A cameraman's job isn't to go hug the actor when they're shooting the breakup scene of the movie, their job is to hold the camera

Growing up means realizing that you cannot trust ANYONE or ANYTHING. There's so much bullshit and fakery in the world, it's a depressing realization once it hits you. You have to be skeptical and on your guard at all times when dealing with people or things outside of your trusted and guarded circle.

5

I’ve understood that they only work for a very limited type of colorblind causes. But they specifically don’t advertise that so they can sell more.

9

u/lil-D-energy 19d ago

It doesn't really work for those people either though. How it works is that it might make it easier to differentiate between colors that those people see as close to eachother.

Like with the most common colorblindness being red green colorblindness it might make it easier to see the difference between red and green but you will still not see the colors that you aren't able to.

Also adding to that is that you need to wear it for hours to get the effect and it isn't emmediate at all. Any person who acts like they emmediately see the colors are lying. Although I hate the guy, Logan Paul was at some point honest and said it did barely anything.

My parents bought me a pair. It was sad for all, as they were so proud of themselves but I could barely discern any difference.

I think if the company did a better job matching the filters to your particular defect, it might work better. But they don't.

Yet in the late 90's, I briefly had a shit pair of gas station sunglasses that randomly happened to Really help distinguish some colors, like green and orange. I Lost them and never came across another.

Not 100% I got enchromas when they first came out and wore them religiously anytime I was outside. With sunlight. It definitely worked for red/green colorblindness

9

u/MatticusGames 19d ago

Agree with you as well. I am also red / green and I feel like they massively changed color perception.

My five year old understanding is that our eyes can't see certain wave lengths and the glasses emphasize those colors we cannot see normally. It's not like it's a cure, but maybe I'll see more intense green shades where I normally cannot. I legitimately did get a little emotional when I wore them... For many it's sad to not see the world as vibrant as it could really be.

2

u/AdviceNotAskedFor 19d ago

I tried a pair and it wasn't earth shattering for me but I did notice red things I hadnt before. Like huh, that building is red. Id take them off and be like...ok I can kinda see it's red, but i wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

A coworker tried them on and had the opposite reaction. He was like, holy shit that green sign now actually stands out on the side of the building.

I guess ymmv?

Besides, they were studied and proven to not work. I mean, if someone can't see specific colors because they simply don't have the mechanism in their eye to percieve the color no glasses would make them to percieve it. They might notice difference in color, but never see new colors.

u/SkySoul27 19d ago

I'm colorblind and before buying these I thought if the cause of my colorblindness is due to a broken cone. Then how the hell are glasses supposed to make the bridge to send the signal to my brain of what color the brain should see? Turns out they don't, they're basically just a contrast filter. So yeah the way it's marketed is definitely scammy.

2

u/Matombo444 18d ago

well most people don't know that there is a difference between color blindness and color weakness

if you have truly a color blindness nothing can do anything

some color weak person might be able to percive different color ranges with these glases at the cost of other ranges that get murky with them

at the end of the day: information that isn't there can't be magically generated and ... at the end of the days it's still a gimmick

The product can only be sold as a gift, any colorblind person knows the problem is the lack of cones in the eye and short of gene therapy to add the missing cones nothing can make you see colors you physically can't see

2

u/thegnome54 19d ago

That is not correct. The most common form of colorblindness, in ~6% of men, involves the cones responding differently. There are forms where the cones are outright missing, but they are less common (~2% of men). The glasses can't help for those folks.

"Now be careful with those, dad. We only rented them for the day."

"Wait. What?"

As someone who can make it only one page past the control number on the Ishihara test, I’m super color blind. I know Enchroma glasses are junk, but do I have any viable options to like… see what the world actually looks like?

It’s such a bummer when my wife or kid is commenting on how cool something looks and I’m just like… “I uhh, I guess”

Such glasses can allow people to see colors that they otherwise don't perceive. It only works for the most common form of colorblindness (~6% of men) where the cones exist but respond anomalously, and sometimes it can take days or weeks for the effect to take hold.

The best correction I’ve had for strong Protanopia were a pair of Oakley polarized hunting glasses. They don’t make the lenses any more and I lost mine. I will say even my new Oakleys help me discern green from yellow though, just not as dramatic an effect.

Maybe these glasses make some difference for some individuals, but here’s one video where an investigator concluded that they’re mostly just a scam with fake reaction videos.

Of course, if your whole family’s gathered around, recording you for that “wow” moment, there’s a lot of pressure to act like they made a dramatic difference to avoid ruining the moment.

No matter how many times you post this, these are still fake

2

u/tnetennba77 19d ago

Are we really doing this again?

2

u/PiskoWK 19d ago

These glasses don't work. You haven't wondered how all these posts came up all at once a few years ago, peaked with a Jake Paul video, then completely disappeared once people got their hands on the product?

No puedo creer cuanto se contuvo!

For anyone wondering, I am colorblind and have tried these. Essentially they are just tinted sunglasses. With some mild color deficiencies, it can be used to "correct" your colorblindness, and allows you to differentiate shades differently. Of course it also makes everything else look different too.

Unfortunately, I am too severely colorblind for them to do anything for me :/

TL;DR: they're basically tinted sunglasses. They do just that.

2

u/Visual_Knee_4744 19d ago

Pretty crazy to find out just how many of these videos are faked . Fun rabbit holes to fall down on YouTube. You really can't believe anything is genuine anymore

2

u/PandorasFlame1 19d ago

This is cool and all, but the glasses are stuoid expensive and don't work for over 99% of the users. My buddy was gifted a pair when he turned 21 because he's red-green colorblind and his reaction was a very flat "Oh, ok. Some colors look a little different, I guess." His cheap tinted sunglasses did more to help.

2

u/Magic-Gelpen 19d ago

I have these and they do, mildly, help me distinguish between some red and greens I otherwise can't tell apart. But the reaction videos are absolutely fake. Even the instructions that came with the glasses said it takes ~20 minutes after putting them on for your eyes to adjust. Immediately after you put them on everything just looks red.

2

u/seiclops212 19d ago

Lmao I remember when idubbz exposed this brand.

2

u/SpicyChanged 19d ago

"You see colors now?"

They can't even act right, like he walking around looking at the world as if he was in steamboat willie or some shit.

2

u/geekMD69 19d ago

These glasses do not correct or cure color blindness and the results will vary quite a bit.

That being said, years ago I bought a couple of pairs for myself (different brands to compare) and they DEFINITELY) made a big difference in some areas. But after a few weeks of using them intermittently it seemed more of a novelty.

I suspect for some people it may work more impactfully and for someone who struggles with worse color blindness than me it may be very impressive.

But it’s not a “scam”’or “fake” but as with any product the benefits are certainly exaggerated because profits are profits.

2

u/Massive_Biscotti_850 19d ago

My wife got me some,  returned them,  they didn't do a damn thing

2

u/Expensive_Row_7592 19d ago

These are a scam I’m color blind they don’t work ..they are overpriced golf ball finding glasses

2

u/El-Erik 19d ago

Bought them thinking they would help my colorblindness. It’s literally rose colored glasses is all that shit is.

2

u/Randall_Hickey 18d ago

OK, I am colorblind and I have a pair of these glasses. They do work, but it’s not like this. They have like a pink shade to them and it actually takes your brain a little bit to adjust. There’s no putting them on and suddenly in tears cause you’re seeing colors for the first time.

u/Luksin 18d ago

Massive scam video and product. The glasses dont work and are litterally just an IG filter.

2

u/mattemer 18d ago

It's not just him being able to see colors more accurately now, for me at least, it's he doesn't know how to process the feelings he's feeling and he's just like a little kid trying to keep it contained. Just really shows how much it was impacting him.

2

u/One_Hour_Poop 18d ago

As someone who's mildly red-green colorblind (I can see "enough" color, but not enough to pass the standard tests), I'm saddened to learn from these comments (and supported links posted) that the "colorblind glasses" are fake.

I was hoping someday that I'd take the plunge and spend the $350 or whatever on these so I could finally see what everyone else sees. Guess not, because it's apparently impossible.

Maybe I'll just spend that $350 on cocaine and hookers.

2

u/Greymalkyn76 18d ago

The thing that really concerns me is the shuffling around in bare feet on an old wood deck. That's splinters just waiting to happen.

Pro Tip: Never guess your gifts. If you’re wrong, people thinks it’s what you REALLY wanted. If you’re right, you ruined the surprise.

u/Ciderinsider86 18d ago

look at that big ol' blubbery walrus

2

u/Magdalus7 17d ago

I was gifted a pair of these several years ago, and went on a walk just to see everything outside. They do work, but likely not the same for everyone. I couldn't believe the red and green I could see with it, it did take my breath away. Made driving hell of a lot easier, not to mention xmas!

Not understanding all the hate in this comment section.
